Re: Significan arrest in child pornography, claims Mark W-T
Thats good advice .It unfortunately didn't help my son years ago when he was caught in an unexpected snow storm that halted all the buses on the way home from school .
He went into a shop and asked if he could use their phone so he could let us know but was refused as he had no money on him as he'd spent it on his fare home and then the bus couldn't get through .He ended up having to walk 3 miles home and had icicles hanging from his hair when he arrived and was frozen to the bone .
My husband had gone out to look for him but walked the other side of the road unfortunately and missed him as the snow and wind was limiting how far you could see !!!!! One bad experience I know but I still would advise going into a shop after all that !

That's a good one. In town, lots of them and in residential areas often a corner shop.

You're right. I was in Stratford-upon-Avon recently, by the river, and there facing, was a MscDonald's. On the main shopping street, there's a Costa Coffee and everywhere you look there are chain stores. Most tourists will now find that they have the same choices as they have in Chicago and Hong Kong! Thank goodness for towns like Stow-on-the-Wold that still has very very few chain stores.

Bill Bryson, in his book, notes from a small island, warned against this type of stuff, a good read if you get the chance.

It's true. They recently refurbished a shopping mall near us. They had all these wonderful posters about how exciting it was going to be. And guess what we got .... Monsoon, Next, Top Man, Dorothy Perkins, River Island, New Look, Orange Mobile Phone, Samuels and Boots! - not :(

It gets worse, near me they recently closed a huge branch of Borders(a big brand I know but I love bookshops, any bookshop) and now they are in the process of re-opening it as a New Look - reverse evolution, or what?

You should come up to Peterhead or Fraserburgh. There's still a LOT of money around up there, and the culture amongst the younger ones is to buy a complete designer outfit, wear it a couple of times, then put it out. If you do a trawl of Oxfam and Shelter shops up there, you will still come away better dressed than you ever have been in your whole life!

were caught I never knew they existed. When we were young we were told if we got lost etc and needed help
then we must
1, Find a policeman.
2, Ask a woman.
Now what do we advise our kids to do ?
Perhaps Detective Superintendent Graham Hill, head of the Behavioural Analysis Unit at CEOP (The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) can answer a few of your questions:-
"there are more and more women being caught.Untill the Wests were caught I never knew they existed."
Detective Superintendent Graham Hill believes that as many as one in five of all cases of sexual abuse may involve female perpetrators. “I don’t think there’s a police force in the country that isn’t currently dealing with a female child sex offender,” he tells me, adding that this was just the “tip of the iceberg”.
According to Hill, ten or fifteen years ago most crimes involving accusations of child sexual abuse that the police dealt with were always examined on the premise that the man was the guilty party.
“It was always the case that the female in the family was treated as a potential witness,” he says. “One of our messages to law enforcement officers now is that, when you investigate a serious sexual offence against a child, you should always look at how complicit the female is in that kind of offending.”
And not always just complicity. Hill believes that the public’s perception that female sex offenders usually operate alongside a controlling and manipulative man is often false. He dismisses that stereotypical image as a societal cliché born out of a reluctance to believe that a woman could act so heinously alone and for her own sexual gratification.
“The public’s perception is coloured by the high-profile crimes, the sort of duos in the press. And the thought is that a bad man and a bad woman equal a perfect storm. But what I’m looking at at this centre are women who do have a sexual interest in children in their own right. We even have some examples where women have brought men into their lives just to facilitate sex with their children.”
Now what do we advise our kids to do ?
Detective Superintendent Graham Hill: “It’s an issue that has been locked away for too long and we need to get everyone talking about this problem openly and honestly,” says Hill. “That in itself will be a major step forward in our battle against child sex abuse.”
