McCanns Trip to Lisbon is a Form of Pressure'

McCanns Trip to Lisbon is a Form of Pressure'
11 December 2009 | Posted by Joana Morais
Gonçalo Amaral: The audience tomorrow may not happen.
Sandra Felgueiras [Voice Over]: It was Gonçalo Amaral who unraveled the veil on the news. The quarantine of his lawyer may lead the court to postpone the witnesses hearing requested by the former inspector to bring back to the market the banned book about which he writes now.
[Inset of the new book’s cover – ‘The English Gag - The Story of a Forbidden book’]
SF: To publish this book, exactly tomorrow, can’t it be seen as a provocation?
GA: The book was not written now, I wrote it in September, 10 or 12 days after I was notified of the temporary injunction. When the book launching date was set, no one knew that tomorrow would take place a session in the scope of an opposition.
SF: How do you see the McCanns trip to Lisbon to be tomorrow present at the audience?
GA: I understand it as a form of pressure over the witnesses who are going to be heard. Additionally, as a form of pressure on the court itself.
SF [Voice Over]: With the absence of Gonçalo Amaral’s lawyer tomorrow at the court hearing, the arrival of the McCanns today in Lisbon may be in vain. Nevertheless, even if it is postponed the mission of the civil court of Lisbon will always be to decide if the banning of this book [inset of the book ‘Maddie, The Truth of the Lie] is definite or not. For the McCanns, Gonçalo Amaral only published the book for financial reasons, which translates in the opening of a society to allegedly avoid paying 500 thousand Euros of old debts.
GA: (... - voice cut ) I imagine so. There are debts and we are going to pay them with our patrimony, there is no doubt on that. However, I will never pay anything to the McCann couple. That is for sure. The procession is just beginning, between a lot will happen. We have no doubts that we will demand and ask for an award of damages for what we have suffered, my family and I.
SF: Which results do you expect from the hearings that will end next week?
GA: I believe, and according to other jurists, that the book should be already in the market, since the interlocutory restraining injunction to the companies, like Guerra e Paz [the book publishing house] was dropped, because 30 days after that injunction was made there was no action. There is only an action against myself.
SF [Voice Over]: Confident in a favourable decision Gonçalo Amaral adds that after tomorrow the thesis that Maddie did die will be divulged, not by him for the reason that he is prohibited, but by many other voices.
GA: The witnesses that will now be heard are police officers who worked in the investigation, they are criminal investigator officers, and have the obligation to speak the truth.
"The English Gag - The story of a forbidden book"
SF: And to speak the truth means to talk about the thesis that Gonçalo Amaral is now forbidden to talk about?
GA: To speak the truth it is something very simple. There is a book and there is a case file, there is a book that describes an investigation, and there is an investigation that is on that case file. Now, are there any differences? There are none. What is in the book is on the process.
SF [Voice Over]: And in the ‘English Gag’ as the new book is named, Gonçalo Amaral is indignated at a censorship, one that we only have memory from before the 25 de Abril [Carnation Revolution, 25th April 1974].

Re: Court postpones McCann libel trial
Whats the first book got to do with the second book.
The mccanns cant stop amaral doing EVERYTHING.
The second book doesnt stop the mccanns from LOOKING for their daughter.
OR ARE THE MCCANNS OUT TO RUIN AMARALS LIFE, HIS WIFES LIFE AND HIS CHILDRENS LIFE and THE MCCANNS WONT STOP TILL THEY DO THAT.

Re: Court postpones McCann libel trial
If the hearing is postponed, then perhaps the McCanns will not be able to make the return trip, which makes me wonder if there might be some serendipity, as it were, behind the lawyer's flu. The process may run more smoothly without the McCanns, their entourage and the media's focus on them.
Re: Court postpones McCann libel trial
I think the Portugese Court would be quite within it"s right to hold the hearings in camera to avoid the
obvious Press interest , there will obviously be many spectators as well.

He's probably been told he has to be there in order to gain public sympathy, standing resolutely beside the wifie who has her head tilted in an expression of sadness and her hair perfectly coiffed!!

Re: Court postpones McCann libel trial
The McCanns will have to face the Press and the crowds outside the Courthouse without their "Spokesperson",
wonder how they will react? Will it be a "no comment" grim faced attitude, or smiling acknowledgement of
the interest to show confidence that they will win.

Don"t quite know what"s going on here, see my topic, posted earlier. Kazlux has just confirmed the hearing
is postponed til 21/12/09, so why weren"t the McCanns told so they could change their Flight? It is all very
strange and it is not Cabrita who has suspected Swine Flu, it is his Secretary? Make of this what you will.

Bet they go to PDL this afternoon, she'll be photographed on the beach, clutching cadaver cat to her bosom, gazing woefully out to sea, holding on to Gerrys arm, he'll be stood there with that smug look on his face, then they'll go to the Bull have a have an afternoon of free food and booze from their adoring fans.

McCanns trip to Lisbon is a form of pressure
I didn't think that Mr. Gerry looked smug, instead I think he is "furious". He never imagined that their suit would ever get this far, that GA would be able to appeal the injunction. He thought he and his team were in total control and that financial strangulation would force GA to settle out of court. But things aren't going exactly their way, are they.
Mr. Gerry is seething with anger and Missy Kate is cowering behind him.

Agreed, I too just watched the snippet and he looks angry. Then there was a snippet of Amaral with his Lawyer
and Sky are following this hearing all day, so don"t switch off.
Gerry just being interviewed! "Are you confident you will win"?........."We believe in the Law which will prove
justice".

Just enough time for the mccanns to go to pdl to do some searching.
My money is that the mccanns KNEW FULL WELL about it being postponed but still went to gain more sympathy...woe is them, poor mccanns, went to lisbon...boohooo....this is how much we would do to get 1m er i mean get justice!
No exspensive toys for the twins, no rolex for dear old gerry and no new kitchen for kate.......

Earlier, Mr McCann, 41, told Sky News: "We're here to make sure that freedom of speech doesn't allow the truth to be distorted.
Here is a wee early Christmas present for you, Gerry.

NOT written by myself.... with permanent permission to copy it.....
So it's ok for lilo lil to hold back 48 pieces of information, it's ok for the 7 dwarves to lie through their teeth about checks, it's ok fot tanner to falsify sighting an abductor whose appearance changes on a weekly basis depending on what independant withnesses saw or some poor innocent they can pin the blame on and whose memory gets sharper and sharper by the month in stark contrast to the rest of the worlds which fades over time.
If you look at each piece of behavior on its own it means nothing but when you add all the details togeather, the conflicting stories, the refusal to co-operate, the hasty and undignified scarper on being made arguidos, the misuse of the fund both to pay mortgages and legal fees and v various people of dubious skill, merit and honesty and who have a track record of dodgy dealing or ineptitude it is a blinding case of circumstantial evidence and when coupled with the forensic evidence is a damning case of guilt. They are involved up to their back teeth and they know we and the cops know so all they can do now is try and brazen it out and use bully boy tactics to try and evade justice.

Court postpones McCann libel trial
The Press Association – 23 minutes ago
A Lisbon court has postponed the start of a libel action brought by the parents of Madeleine McCann against a former Portuguese detective.
A court clerk said the lawyer of defendant Goncalo Amaral did not turn up at the trial's scheduled opening session on Friday for health reasons, and the judge ordered a postponement.
Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, flew to Lisbon to attend the trial.
They are seeking £1,085,000 in damages from Mr Amaral over a book he published about Madeleine's disappearance during a vacation in southern Portugal more than two years ago.
The book alleges the child is dead. The McCanns contend the book defames them by questioning their version of events.
