IMO the judge doesn't appreciate smear tactics like this or McCann giving press conferences quasi 'on the courtroom steps' and refuting testimony that has been given by witnesses. Could seriously backfire.

Could it be that he has some sort of madical condition that allows him to speak only outside the cout and not inside? Or there are so many strange irrational fears (phobia of clowns, balloons, ketchup... , why not court rooms).

MilkyWay, I think his fear of speaking in court probably has more to do with the fact that he could be cross-examined on anything he says there. He doesn't like that - acording to him, it's going over old ground.
Outside, though, surrounded by a loyal cabal of British media toadies, he is free to pontificate and to twist answers to their questions any way he chooses.

FORÇA
English keyboards are a problem! If he has said "Forca McCanns" that would mean "hang the McCanns"!

Alt + 0231 on an English keyboard, using the numbers on the right, as in Gonçalo and força!

AMARAL LIBELLED BY BBC AND MANY OTHER MEDIA
Today it has become clear that BBC TV East Midlands lied when they broke the story that Goncalo Amaral had said 'F___ the McCanns'.
In fact, he said: 'Não, força aos McCanns', which translates as 'No. Good luck to the McCanns'.
We have been in touch today with BBC East Midlands, the BBC, the Mirror and the Sun and other newspapers in an effort to ensure that they apologise for ths serious slur on Goncalo Amaral.
We are getting hints that there may be an apology; we shall soon see.
Our letter which has of course been copied to OFCOM and the Press Complaints Commision is below.

Is there something wrong with that Fsoares? I'm a legally abiding citizen, but, yeah, I would hang them.

P.S. can someone tell me the official reason GA was removed from the case. My hubby was asking me and I dont know.
The "Real" reason is GORDON BROWN, the "official reason" was talking to Journo's. IIRC he was "tricked " by a journo.

Thank you for replying Laffin. I have followed case for last 2 year but have a terrible memory and usually forget a lot of the details.

Re: EX-COP who led Maddie probe sparks new outrage following a four-letter tirade
Apparently he actually said, "fala com McCanns", meaning "speak with the McCanns". Try it for yourselves, if you say it really fast it does sound like a sweary word if you don't understand Portuguese. It's just the typical arrogance of the BBC in assuming that Dr Amaral would be speaking English. The BBC should be publishing a massive apology to Dr A, though, but I won't be holding my breath.

Well, this is the only report I can find in any of the papers - and no apology from BBC yet, of course!

Just seen this is Mirror article:

Last night the BBC stood by a claim Amaral had told their crew "f*** the McCanns". His lawyer had claimed he was mistranslated.

My New Best Friend

Spare a thought for my new best friend Goncalo Amaral.
I’m beginning to think the former detective in the Madeleine McCann case has a point when he complains about the British media attacking him.
My Beeb colleague accused him of saying “F*** the McCanns” in an alleged off-guard moment when we all followed him out of court the other day.
What he actually said was “Fala com McCanns” which means “Ask the McCanns”.
The rest of us, through our interpreters, understood perfectly what he was saying.
I think he needs a good libel lawyer.
Isabel Duarte may be free when she has finished pursuing him over his book on the Madeleine case.

Well, but don't expect Marty to suddenly start getting everything right. Apart from that I think that blog entry is worth printing off and framing and sending to the Beeb.

Apparently the BBC peeps are sticking to the tale that Amaral swore at them. Is there a Portugese equivalent for F... them?

Mr Amaral will know what he said better than the BBC. I think he must know his own language best.tanszi wrote:Apparently the BBC peeps are sticking to the tale that Amaral swore at them. Is there a Portugese equivalent for F... them?
Anyway, has anyone yet informed the BBC of Gerry McCann swearing in front of his own and his friends' children in the bus, as shown in the original YouTube video? Perhaps their moral outrage might be more usefully employed here?
