Gardaí are investigating the discovery of the body of a man in County Meath. The remains were found in a drain in a field in Rathfeigh near Duleek.
A body discovered in County Meath may be that of missing teenager Daniel McAnespie. He disappeared, presumed murdered, three months ago.
A team of Gardai spent most of today combing the area close to where the badly decomposed body was discovered.
A farmer noticed the remains while out walking on the land in Rathfee, near Duleek in Co. Meath at about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
It's understood the body was partially submerged in a drain, and may have lain there for several months.
Gardai are looking for anyone who noticed any unusual activity in this area over the past few months, to come forward and contact them.
A preliminary examination of the body was carried out at the scene, before the remains were removed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown last night. It was not immediately possible to identify the body but it is believed to be that of a young male. Gardai have not ruled out the possibility that they are the remains of Daniel McAnaspie, a Dublin teenager who has been missing for nearly three months.
The 17 year old was last seen in a housing estate in Blanchardstown in the early hours of February 26th. A full post mortem was carried out today, and dental records may be needed to establish an official identification. Until then the family of Daniel McAnaspie, who have said in the past that they believe he was murdered, face an anxious wait.

What a sad ending to a young person's life. And how awful for his
parents and his family, that someone should not only take Daniel's life, but discard his body in a drain. I'm glad they have found him and his family can lay him to rest with decency and respect. Now, his killer(s) must be found. Rest in peace Daniel.

Both Daniels parents have passed on. So he is now back in their safe arms to look after him.

I didn't notice that Antoinette. So, at least they didn't have to suffer the pain of their child's murder and he is with them now. God bless.
HSE to review death of Daniel McAnaspie
HSE to review death of Daniel McAnaspie
Monday, 17 May 2010 22:29
The Health Service Executive has yet to establish an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance from care and death of Daniel McAnaspie.
The 17-year-old went missing from HSE care in February.
His body was found dumped in a drain in a field in Co Meath last Thursday - he had been stabbed to death.
In a statement today, the HSE said his death will be reviewed by a panel of experts.
This panel has not yet been set up, nor has the larger panel from which these experts will be chosen.
The HSE says the process of appointing individuals to that larger panel is expected to be completed shortly.
'The HSE today confirmed that Daniel's death will be reviewed in accordance with the recently published HIQA Guidance for the HSE for the Review of Serious Incidents including Deaths of Children in Care', it read.
'The review will fully investigate the care provided to Daniel and the circumstances leading up to his disappearance and death.
'Any concerns raised by family members, and other relevant parties, will be addressed in the course of the review, which will be conducted under an Independent Chairperson.'
The family of Daniel McAnaspie, whose death is now the subject of a murder investigation, have strongly criticised the care he got from the Health Service Executive and have accused the HSE of a cover-up.
The family said Daniel could not read or write, and his education and care needs were not addressed when he was in the care of the HSE.
The teenager's family said he was moved around from place to place and he was put into the after-hours system where he was forced to go to Garda stations at 8pm to look for a place to sleep.
The family said he was attacked and robbed in these places.
His family also said the HSE never gave him or the family the support they needed.
Daniel was one of five young children who were put into care after both their parents died.
His sister, Caitríona, who was also put into care with him, said she blames the HSE.
She said if he had been better cared for, he might still be alive today.

Antoinette, that is horrendous. Another child let down by the so-called "care," system. A 17 year-old who had to turn up each night to find a place to sleep! Absolutely disgusting.
In the UK, there was the case of Sammy Osborn, which I know you know about, where Social Services failed to locate Sammy and they closed the case!

I know all about Sammy's case. It took Sammy's Mum to fight to get her daughter back. I can see Daniels family fighting the same way for him. Unfortunately its a little too late for Daniel as he is now dead but from what I can see of his family they wont let his death be forgotten about. They have done everything in their power to find Daniel since he disappeared and still nothing was done to help this young lad. They searched for him themselves with no help from the HSC. The gardai helped them out alright but everything was organised by his family which seems to be the norm nowadays if your name is not McCann.
