Milly Boele was murdered by a police officer

A 12-year-old Dutch girl whose disappearance last week sparked a massive "Maddie-style" hunt throughout the Netherlands was actually murdered by a policeman and buried metres from her own home.

The 26-year-old policeman yesterday admitted to killing schoolgirl Milly Boele, who lived with her family a few doors down from him in the southern city of Dordrecht.

Policeman Sander V, who according to Dutch legal tradition has been identified only by his first name and initial, walked to the police station and gave himself up.

He reportedly admitted to killing Milly and burying her in his backyard, and police subsequently dug up her body. A motive has not been released, and it is not yet known if the girl was sexually assaulted.

A nationwide search for Milly had been undertaken after she broke off a phone call to her mother last Wednesday to answer the door.

She had not been seen since, and thousands of flyers were posted along roadsides and at Schiphol international airport.

Online forums dedicated to finding missing UK girl Madeleine McCann took on the "Milly" cause, convinced the Dutch girl had been abducted.

Three-year-old Madeleine disappeared in Portugal while on holiday with her parents in 2007.

A policeman in the southern Dutch city of Dordrecht has confessed to the murder of the 12-year-old girl, Milly Boele, whose body was discovered in his garden.

At a press conference a public prosecutor’s office spokesman said the 26-year-old policeman took her to his house, killed her and buried the body. The spokesman could not say whether Milly had been sexually assaulted.

An 'Amber Alert' was issued when Milly Boele disappeared from her home in Dordrecht, near Rotterdam, on Wednesday last week. Posters appeared around the country, there were TV appeals for information, and billboards alongside motorways also displayed images of the missing child. Posters was also hung at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport as fears rose that the girl had been abducted and possibly taken abroad.

Reacting on Dutch TV to the news of the discovery of Milly's body, neighbours expressed shock that, after a week of nationwide searches, the young girl had been found so close - a matter of metres - to her home.

More than 250 tips came in to police after the Amber Alert was launched, but there was criticism too. Amber Alert director, Frank Hoen, says the police should have raised this nationwide alarm much earlier than they did. It was not given until 17 hours after Milly disappeared. Experts say an Amber Alert is much more effective if issued in the first few hours following a disappearance.

There are question marks about the future funding of the Amber Alert system in the Netherlands, but caretaker Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin told parliament this week that he wants funding to continue.

WHY???

Both of the cases ar NOT linked and certainly not every cop does kill girls or boys.

Despite no charges ever being brought, Hollie received £13,500 compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority in April last year.
