Libel hearings Feb 2012

Sorry can't do links and haven't seen this on here yet, but Joana's Blog and Twitter stating the hearings to commence next February.

McCann libel trial hearings to start in February 2012

The civil complaint filed by the McCanns against Gonçalo Amaral, over his book "Maddie - A Verdade da Mentira" (The Truth of the Lie) will start to be tried in February 2012.

The first two hearings have been scheduled for the 9th and 10th of February, 2012, at 9.30 a.m., at the Civil Court of Lisbon.

The defence fund that supports Mr Amaral by helping to finance the legal expenses related to this trial, is still in operation. Donations are very welcome. Please refer to Projecto Justiça Gonçalo Amaral for contributions. Thank you.

So now we have a definate date, no more speculation.

I support neither side in advance of the case. I just want some justice to be done and to be seen to be done for Madeleine McCann.

Whether her parents triumph or Amaral does isn't important. What matters is that the truth is discovered about what happened.

Couldn't agree more re justice being done for Madeleine and in the early days I supported the McCanns with donations. Then I read the files.

IMO the fact that Kate has published her book here will have weakened the McCann's case. She has exposed her sex life, her daughter's genitals, etc. to the public eye and said some pretty nasty things about some police officers and then she expects that no one else can write a book, especially one based on the actual police files.

I shall be going up to Lisbon too. It will be strange to see the odious couple in person. Wonder if they will have to testify about their lack of a sex life.

Isabel Duarte thought it would be this autumn but court cases have a habit of being delayed for months or years. Feb is a long wait.

What chance to the McCanns' have? They have now lost their book "ban" and that is surely what the libel trial is based on. Amaral would have a much better chance of suing them and the UK media with all the insults that have been flung his way.

I agree totally, Carolina. What you say is the plain truth, some parts of Kate McCann's book are disgusting and the venom shown towards some members of the PJ is utterly abhorrent. She paints herself in her book as someone foul-mouthed, violent and vindictive ... ane we are expected to feel some sort of sympathy for such a person? Are people only allowed to hear what she says about her daughter's disappearance, but not what the coordinator of the police investigation has to say? This case is about freedom of speech - it can't ever be allowed that one person has freedom of speech while another is denied it. IMO.

Well done Carolina, I hope you do attend the hearing's. It is good to know that Goncalo Amaral will be receiving support. I wonder if Joana Morais will also attend the hearings, Joana was in Lisbon when the first court case between the McCanns and Goncalo Amaral, was taking place.

I wonder if Goncalo Amaral will carry out his threat and call the McCanns to the witness stand. If he does I hope he can mention Kate McCann's vile book of sex and lies. Goncalo Amaral has also threatened to countersue the McCanns, I really hope he does.

Thank you Astro, for the information regarding the forthcoming courtcase and the fund. Along with everyone else who is donating I will also donate.

I hope Snr. Amaral is managing to keep well, I can only imagine how stressed he and his family must be, by the continuing harassment from the McCanns. He must be well aware that the ruthless McCanns mission in life, is to make as much money as they can. There is no two ways about it, the McCanns are ruthless. They have used Madeleine as a cash cow and they will do the same to Snr. Amaral, if they are not stopped in their tracks.

Well, this is GREAT NEWS and as Carolina said, Kate"s Book on the "truth" was more concerned with HER than Madeleine and proved nothing
more than a cheap way of making money .

The McCanns charge Against amaral"s book is that it made the Familiy , including the Twins, ill and by suggesting Madeleine died in 5a efforts
to find her were impeded. In a way, it"s good that the case has taken so long to be tried because there has been not one sighting since
the charge was made which gives more credence to Amaral"s claim.

Aw Panda please dont give them ideas we still have 4 months befor the case will start, that will give TM atleast 3 sightings between now and Feb 12

Hi Lilyofthevalley,

Well they tried it on in India but the Police there were quick to discredit the sighting I bet the next "sighting" will be in Outer Mongolia, there
really aren"t many other Countries to choose from.
