commonwealth games in jeopardy
With 11 days to go it appears there are serious doubts that the Games will go ahead. The Athletes Village is not ready, a bridge has collapsed and roof tiles have been falling into the Stadium. Athletes are pulling out and some Countries are issuing ultimatums......rain pouring down has hampered the work.
One Australian walking along pulling a case on wheels passed several Guards and no one stopped him. He opened the case for a Reporter to show the size of a remote controlled bomb and the damage it could do. I feel
sorry for the Athletes who have trained so hard for the last few Years , they must be gutted.

It is touch and go whether the Games will actually take place. When you think how India is one of the World"s
largest Economies and had 4 years to prepare for the Games, a Commonwealth Games Committee supposed to
monitor the preparations ,it really is a disgrace. I feel very sorry for the Athletes who have trained so hard to
compete in this event.

I also feel sorry for any officials and ordinary people of India who were hoping that the games would bring positive attention to India as a developing country. Unfortunately, I think those responsible for appointing contractors probably gave the contracts to their friends and relations, some of whom, we have been told, employed child labour. In a country where people can buy their way into a government job, I am not surprised, but saddened by how things have turned out.

Apparently India wanted to emulate China in the presentation but it has sadly failed and they will have to wait
until Kingdom come to be asked to Host the Commonwealth games.
In my opinion the opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games held in China was absolutely awesome and I don"t
ever see it being matched. A timely reminder too of how inventive the Chinese were hundreds of years ago.

The oldest medical textbook is the Nei Ching Su Wen, "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine," which is reputed to be around 5,000 years old. This text describes the circulation of blood round the body and mentions, "invisible worms," as pathogens, what we now possibly know as bacteria and viruses.

Sorry to rain on anybody's parade, but I believe that nowadays the Olympics and Commonwealth Games are simply competitions to see which countries have the best chemists. :(

I agree. I think the chemists are kept very busy finding new ways to fool drug tests. Years ago, we used to hear excuses about athletes having been on antibiotics. This was because a drug called Probenecid was often prescribed with antibiotics because it prevented their excretion. It also prevented the excretion of other drugs and so these drugs were not detected in the urine. Eventually the testers wised up to this and the presence of Probencid in the urine was taken as an indication that illegal drugs were being used and blood tests ordered.
Probenecid competitively inhibits the renal excretion of some drugs, thereby increasing their plasma concentration and prolonging their effects.
