Murder of Michaela Harte

Not sure where to post this. It's totally un-related to Madeleine's case but I feel the need to share it. This beautiful 27 year old girl is the daughter of the Manager of the Tyrone Gaelic Football team. She was on her honeymoon in Mauritius and she was murdered in her hotel room, apparently by 2/3 staff members of the hotel. This story has gripped the whole island of Ireland. We are in mourning for Michaela's family. Her husband of 12 days is now on his way from Mauritius to Ireland, with his wife's body.

maebee, I'm glad you posted about Michaela. I think no one could fail to be shocked at such a horrendous deed. Why did they do it? Even if there was an intention of theft, there's a very big gulf between taking someone's possessions and murdering them.

I saw Mickey Harte and his two younger sons on the news and it was dreadful to see the misery on their faces. Mickey spoke so movingly and lovingly about his daughter and also took time to remember his son-in-law. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for Michaela's husband (widower now, poor man), bringing his wife's body back home from honeymoon. He must feel like he's in a nightmare and wish he could wake up and it would all be different. I so wish it could be, that none of this were true.

N Ireland is a small place and God knows we've had our share of troubles and disputes among ourselves, but something like this puts all thoughts of differences out of people's heads. Everyone can relate to the loss of a loved one, especially when it's a young person and in this case a young bride killed by madmen.

My condolences to Michaela's husband, her parents and brothers, and all her family and friends.

This case has somewhat been overshadowed by the Dewani one.

The trial has now started. If these men are guilty, they deserve everything that's coming to them; a truly dreadful crime.

This case has reminded me of the Dewani case.......that's gone very quiet hasn't it.!!

I had to look that word up - it's a theological term for "before the Fall of Man" or a poetic way of saying innocent and unspoilt.

I think the Dewani case is on hold pending the husband's return to health which you can bet isn't going to be anytime soon.

"her appalling abduction" indeed...........it was planned in such an appalling manner that it was virtually impossible for it to have happened !
