Badboy wrote:IT SEEMS ISLAMIC MILITANTS MIGHT EXPAND OUT OF DERNA.
There is a Darnah near the coast about half way between Benghazi, and Tobruk. There is a Derna province a little way almost due South of Darnah. I don't know which particular sect of Islamic fundamentalists they are. Doubtless, whichever one it is, they will be the only ones to have interpreted the Qu'ran, and sharia correctly. Equally doubtless all non believers must be killed. It's getting to be a formula with them now, a formula not of building or contributing towards our understanding of the universe, or the sea. Just death and destruction. What an absolute abomination. Yet there are millions of Muslims around the world who just want to get on with their lives, in safety and security. Muslims are by and large peaceful, but their religion is not.
I saw yesterday an item on the news. I had my attention elsewhere at the time, (grandchildren business overrides everything else) so I didn't get the name or the background to it, but it seems some Muslim has upset another prominent Muslim, and he in turn has called upon his God to make that persons diabetes worse. Now what kind of mindset that idiot would have to ask his deity to do such a thing, and what kind of a deity must they be to even consider granting it. If it comes to that, what kind of a deity do these fundamentalists have who would daily watch thousands of his own followers being killed. This lunatic should be committed soonest. for his own and everyone else' safety.

Good morning Badboy
This is getting more inexplicable by the day. I could understand if they were consolidating the areas they control already. I could understand stirring up hatred in areas they consider well disposed toward them, but how could anyone claiming to be any kind of strategist at all do this? They are turning the world against them especially among the Middle East States who could be their natural allies. They are not yet ready to take on the world unless they know something we do not.
Short of them having some knowledge al Baghdadi al Qureishi thinks will put them at a complete advantage they are showing themselves to be exactly what they are. A bunch of merciless thugs with only killing and sex on their minds. How do they imagine anyone is going to recognise them as any kind of authority?
The only other thing I can think of is that as you mentioned a few weeks ago, many of them believe we are entering into the end of days and whatever they do now, will be judged favourably by their deity.

I think you may have a point there Badboy. It must also be borne in mind that Italy is a member of the EU, and is one of the original 12 founding nations of NATO which today consists of 28 countries. Both organisations have a mutual defence agreement in that if one is attacked it is considered and attack on all. As murderous and as merciless as these IS thugs are I don't think they are up to that touch yet.

Hi Badboy
Yes, this brings it's own problem, that refugees from Libya are still trying to get to Italy in their thousands despite the withdrawal of much of the aid is one thing. Now that we know for certain that IS are present and established in Libya how many of these refugees are in fact supporters of IS. looking to establish a base in Italy or indeed anywhere else in the EU area?
They are using our own laws and traditions against us and more than happy to do so. We have a tradition, and a reputation for being supportive, which they are more than happy to exploit as soft touch Britain. The same goes for Denmark. Norway Sweden (especially Sweden) and to degree most of the rest of the EU, particularly in their blaming Israel for all the problems with Palestinians totally ignoring the danger to Israel while giving money to Hamas and Hezbollah. Hamas especially who are rebuilding their tunnels and buying the next generation of rockets.

Good evening Badboy. Right on the button as our colonial cousins would say. All they have to do is establish a few sleeper cells a la Manchurian Candidate and call them to commit some act of terror as and when required. We hope and trust our security forces will nip most in the bud but I feel some will get through. What of any genuine refugees being used as cover? How many of them will survive if these rickety unseaworthy boats get into trouble. The terror gangs have already amply proven that they have no compassion at all for anyone except themselves.

You have obviously put some constructive thought into this one old son, and pose some very pertinent questions. The sad fact is that IS sympathisers are already in Libya and while I agree that Israel puts a crimp in their plans by it's position they can always find ways and means of getting from Iraq to Libya if they wish. Of course there are other ways of illicit entry into Europe apart from the refugee route to Italy. Even if only a few make it across, they can always start recruiting from there.
Then in the Middle East generally they do not have the same notions of security as us so I imagine that getting hold of automatic weapons wouldn't pose any serious problem. It didn't in the killing of the Charlie Hebdo editor and those victims in the supermarket. The ones who had committed the ultimate sin of allowing themselves to be born Jewish. I would think there are regular routes for smugglers which can be used. there certainly seems no shortage of weaponry among Boko Haram al Shabaab etc. I'm told you can get a fully operational AK47 in parts of Africa for as little as $10, and ammunition as well.
So while I do agree with you entirely that their planning is by no means complete or foolproof there are ways round it. Even in Britain after the knee jerk reaction to Dunblane (for which I blame the police as much as anyone) all they did was remove most of the legal guns. I doubt very much that any illegal ones were tamely handed over. Now there are more guns than ever in the hands of criminals. Mostly handguns it is true or shotguns but they are just as lethal and a gang of determines Islamists could use them to get their hands on heavier weaponry. You can probably buy them without any risk if you know where to go.

They are going for soft targets and in areas of unrest, they may in fact have contributed in no small measure for the unrest in Libya. They don't care who they kill, especially westerners, because they undoubtedly see our leaders as weak and ineffective (which to a large extent they are) All we seem able to worry about is these three teenage girls, who went quite willingly anyway. As they grow ever stronger, our ability to fight and win a limited war becomes ever more problematical while an all out war is unthinkable. At least unthinkable at the moment. Once Iran is in possession of nuclear weapons and the means of delivering them, we may have to think it. At least Obama the arch apologist will no longer be the president. Hopefully, whoever gets the job will be able to see the danger.
Especially since it looks as if Boko Haram have joined up with IS.
They seem to be concentrating on oil producing and exporting countries whether by accident or design.

Badboy wrote:ISIS AFFILIATES HAS SEIZED SIRTE AND ARE BATTLING OTHER FORCES.
Good morning Badboy.
I'm not 100% sure I understand the strategy behind all this. That they want to stir up trouble, and get the Sunni an Shi'ite factions killing each other wherever they can, yes I get that. Surely though that strategy could best be achieved by consolidating the territory they have grabbed already. After all they are about to defend the Iraqi army's biggest assault yet on Tikrit.
I also understand that they are not in effect using their own resources, to any large degree, but the thinner they spread themselves, and they are active in many places the easier it should be to keep them confined locally.
In addition to that, success would (I believe) do more to attract those of like mind than anything else whereas you yourself have hit it when you say that being beaten will disillusion them.
No doubt they think they know what they are doing. I still believe it will have to be boots on the ground from the west and not only the west, they will eventually pose a significant threat to The rest of Asia, as well as the Russian federation. It may yet become a global war of ideology, assuming Iran doesn't start throwing nuclear missiles at Israel in which case it might very well bring about the end of days scenario that some of them are predicting.

Now they seem to be starting in Tunisia as well. The only conclusion I can come to is they want everyone at each others throats, and hope to trigger the "end of days" scenario that many of hem believe in. Nothing else makes any sense.

Good morning Badboy
You are very probably quite right in that the museum was the main target. If that is going to be the future, then G-d help us because there is no way on earth they can all be adequately guarded. Of course there is another side effect of that in that the Ka'abah in Makkah is in effect a pagan artefact in that it was allegedly built by Abraham. Even the practice of pilgrims walking round it widdershins could be said to be a form of pagan rite. The tunnel in Medina where they throw stones at Satan is another pagan hold over.
For millions of genuine pilgrims this is no more than part of their religion and they don't think about it too deeply. For these extremists everything can be said to be unislamic. From the onion domes of the Kremlin to the faces of US presidents carved in Mount Rushmore. Of course it could also ne said that since most of them are armed with Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifles, designed by an atheist Russian. using such a weapon is highly unislamic in itself. It seems that in the eyes of these extremists Islamic is in the eye of the beholder.

Whatever the reasons for this attack 23 innocent people have been killed, most being tourists. It does not seem to have hit the headlines as much and caused the outrage that the attacks in France did. Still the same barbaric killings whatever the cause was this time!

Thank you fuzeta for pointing out the reality of this terrible crime. More than ever we need people of compassion. It doesn't matter what the target was, whether it was the museum for housing pagan artifacts or not, the reality is that 23 people, innocent people, were killed, murdered by these vicious and merciless killers.
As you say it doesn't seem to have caused the furore that Charlie Hebdo caused. I only hope we are not getting "case hardened" to the point where we regard it with fatalism, and consider it another "hurdle" to be avoided if possible, endured if we cant avoid it.
