Re: The girl who smoked an illict cigarette.
The cave pub is opposite the pizza place, and the same St. that the Smith sighting was on (he came up from Kellys bar just round the corner) So that means Gerry and Jez were planning something before walking back to the OC (Tapas bar part?)

Yes - good point - I remember reading about this girl but had forgotten about her. No matter - JT wasn't even there to see anybody.
She was busy - "and I was carrying ........."

Was the girl with the cigarette a forum myth? Not sure, but I remember something about it...

Name: MARTIN SMITH
Nationality: Irish
Profession: Retired
The witness states:
That he comes to the process as a witness.
Being of Irish nationality, he does not understand Portuguese in its written or oral form and is accompanied by an interpreter, Lidia Nascimento.
He has an apartment in Luz, Lagos, located in the Estela da Luz Urbanizaco, A1C. This apartment is co-owned by a friend whose name is Li** ON****. He normally goes on holiday in Portugal, always stays in this apartment, three times a year.
As regards this period, he states that he arrived in Portugal on the 30th of April 2007, with a booked return date, which he complied with, on May 9, 2007. He arrived at Faro airport and flew out from Dublin.
Concerning the facts under investigation, on the day of 3rd of May, he went with his family to the Dolphin restaurant in Praia da Luz where they dined. At around 21H00 they left the restaurant and headed toward 'Kelly's Bar'; about a 50 metre distance from the restaurant, given that the journey is very short, it took a couple of minutes. In 'Kelly's Bar' they consumed some drinks, having left around 21H55 as his son was due to return to Ireland very early the next day. This bar is located on Rua da Calheta.

Re: The girl who smoked an illict cigarette.
bottom line seems to be, she saw gerry and jez so is the third person to corroborate their story that they were there about 915-920 and Jane was no where in sight. Nor any bundleman.
a cigarette only takes a few minutes to smoke, maybe she went back in, and missed seeing bundleman - if he in fact was Stephen Carpenter who carried his child from the creche at 920. or maybe from her perpective sort of lurking back by a doorway she wouldn't have seen where carpenter's crossed.
She seems to be a credible witness and did notice the two men who WERE there sadly not as good a witness as Jane when it comes to the abduction story she failed to notice the person/s who weren't there - Jane and an abductor...
I wish we had a tabletop holographic image of PDL so we could see who was where and how it would have to have happened, could Jane from her vantage point in side her apt see the street where carpenters crossed? Could she have seen or heard Gerry out talking to Jez and for some reason made up that she PASSED them? Rather than say I looked out the window?
Why would you do that?

Same family. That is a coincidence. No wonder Gerry wishes to brush it beneath the carpet.

Re: The girl who smoked an illict cigarette.
She couldn't have ID'd him from so far away could she? 12 year old eyes are sharp though... if she could say that was the same guy she saw scuttling to the beach a few miunutes later, carrying a kid, it would be game over.

Re: The girl who smoked an illict cigarette.
I know the girl with the cigarette was discussed and rediscussed years ago, and I did NOT think she was supposed to have been one of the Smith family walking home, who saw a child being carried, and I have not seen a report from the police files of another girl. I'm not being difficult, but I remember endless discussion about her. Jeepers... I have been on these discussion forums for years and years it seems and everything that goes around comes around... :-)

Re: The girl who smoked an illict cigarette.
But whoever she was saw Gerry and Jez and no lady in flip flops and big man's jumper dangling to her knees, shlepping up the street. She also didn't see the person carrying a kid that Jen thought was the abductor -which might not be surprising if that happened at a different moment. She ID"s Gerry and Jez, then Jez continues walking his baby, Gerry goes somewhere, and the Carpenters cross the road. Jane sees just the tail end of the carpenter man from her window so neither Jez&Gerry nor the smoking girl see Carpenter or Jane.
It's be interesting to know for sure who the witness was if it was the Smith daughter, she'd have been able to remember perhaps if it was "the little girl's father" she also saw when leaving the pub with her family. But even if she is not Smith girl but just a random teen, she saw what she saw on the path that night and didn't see what Jane claims occurred.
Why would Jane though state that she passed by G&Jez, Jez is right you would notice someone so close -they didn't see her because she wasn't there or she was there and they're all conspiring to pretend that Jane is the fantasist - Gerry, Jez and the smoking girl all lying in that case.
Seems like the odd man out on this one is Jane. I can't figure out why she'd say she saw Gerry because she walked right past him if the act is she only knew of him out there because he mentioned it later or she heard his voice outside the flats as Madeleine was supposed to do, or saw him out a window. Why the gratuitous lies? Is it because confusion is a good thing?

Re: The girl who smoked an illict cigarette.
Are people 100% sure she wasn't a form myth?... I think what widowan says is highly important, if this girl is in the police reports rather than reports of the reports IYSWIM.
