Casey Anthony trial (murder of 2 year old daughter and faked abduction) begins May 9 2011
Just a heads up, the Casey Anthony trial begins May 9 although that's only Jury selection.
They have already started dissing the dogs. Apparently according to Jose Baez, her lawyer, these dogs can alert to human fingernails or blood not just cadaver. The dogs alerted to the trunk of the car she had been driving but abandoned (probably due to the stench which she attributed to a squirrel getting caught in the engine and also to a pizza box left in the trunk) and also to her back yard, police think the body was moved.
As catycat has pointed out recently so many dead bodies left within 10 meters of where the car would have stopped - for some reason people don't like carrying a body further than that, Caylee was found inside that parameter in the old pet cemetary her mother used to bury her pets in. Wrapped in a laundry bag and then inside a trash bag, with duct tape over the skull where her mouth was and a syringe with chloroform near by. She also had her winnie the Pooh night time blanket with her in her "shroud" - although supposedly kidnapped from the mother in broad daylight at a park (where there were no witnesses to that) by a swarthy nanny who apparently never existed, that anyone can tell.
The dumping area was under water when they first searched it, shortly after Casey's mother called 911 to report her granddaughter missing and "it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car" so they didn't want the horses and ATVs in there in case they destroyed evidence. A cable or phone repairman found her body when going in the woods to take a leak a month or so after that.
This trial will have dueling experts on just about everything on the forensics. Should be worth following in the Orlando Sentinel -Floriday is a sunshine state so everything is available to the public including her jail house interviews, videos etc.
Parents "believe her innocent and don't think she knows who killed Caylee" etc. Nothing new there.

I can't understand WHY.
All the pictures and videos off the two off them.....they look so happy...so WHY?
Is their any information who the father off the child is?
Was the mother suffering from any sort off mental disorder because the pictures off a happy parent obviously doesn't tell the REAL story and did her mother notice any difference in the mother?

Dissing the dogs won't make any difference as it was the mother who said the car boot smelt like their had been a dead body in their...you cant take that sentence back.
The same as I think Michael wright saying their was a terrible smell In The boot off the scenic....it's all their in black and White.

Thanks for that, widowan.
It seems such a long time ago, we were discussing this case on the old 3A's.

Poor Casey l'll be watching with interest. It's an annoying coincidence that this trial with similarities to Maddies case is starting the same week KM's book comes out.

Because she was selfish and narcissistic, and possibly a sociopath/psychopath. Her daughter got in the way of her partying and going out with friends. I am sure the expense of having a daughter was not appreciated either, as it would cut into her funds to pay for more plastic surgeries and partying. Sound familiar?

Indeed you cannot, her mother is a working registered nurse and has smelled dead bodies before, her comment on 911 will also come in to evidence as an "excited utterance" so no matter how she later dissembled and backtracked saying it could have been the pizza, it's in and it's staying in. (The pizza box fyi was EMPTY, so not too many people will believe a dried out dessicated bit of crust in a box would send out a cadaver smell so strong the grandfather and the impound garage man went reeling back from the car - (grandfather also was homicide detective and is on tape to police telling them the smell was unmistakable and he feared when he smelled it that either Casey or Caylee were dead). Casey wasn't dead.
As far as who the father is, that has been a subject of great interest and no one apart from Casey - if she knows - knows who fathered this child, they do have Caylee's dna from the bones that were found and checked it against both Casey's brother and her father - no match.
Casey, a very pretty, bright young lady had her parents home to live in and they supported her and Caylee who was the little star of the house. Apparently she took some of the limelight away from her mother being on center stage - Casey was made to have the baby which she did not want to keep and also made to stay home and watch her rather than go out and party. Sometimes. She did go out quite a bit and more so after Caylee was gone than before. The photos are on Orlando Sentinal showing her having a good time and getting a new tattoo after her daughter went missing, La Vida Bella - the good life. :(
All was not well between Casey and her mother Cindy.
The jailhouse interviews are chilling with Cindy pleading for information on Caylee's wherabouts, Casey lying through her teeth, and mentioning that she is just like her mother in terms of being capable of violence (the last night they saw Caylee alive Cindy and Casey had a fight, Casey had stolen a check meant for her grandfather's nursing home, not the first theft of credit cards or money from the family, Cindy had had enough of it, and verbally and then physically attacked her, grabbing her neck.
Casey left that night with Caylee and they never saw the baby (who would have been 3 in August had she lived) alive again. Casey went to stay with her BF or other friends, telling her parents she was in DisneyWorld with Caylee or at the beach and managed to fend them off for a month due to this fight they had had. However none of her friends ever saw Caylee after that time - Casey told them Caylee was with a babysitter or with her grandparents.
The car was towed a week after this time she left in June, having been abandoned on the street. When the parents finally got a notice from the impound yard, and went to get the car, the trunk was empty but reeked of cadaver so strongly that George (Casey's dad and Caylee's grandpa) had to drive it home with the windows rolled down.
Cindy was horrified and called 911 to report her granddaughter missing and this odor - she did find Casey and drag her home to get a mouth full of lies about where Caylee had been and that she'd been kidnapped a month earlier and Casey had been "looking for her herself" and had not called the cops.
George and Cindy then began to stick up for Casey - I guess they realized Caylee was gone and it was time to cut their losses as Florida has the death penalty and if Caylee was found dead and it was down to Casey, there were three aggravating circumstances that would mean she was eligible for the DP. Death of a child under 6, death involving abuse (drugs) and the fact that Caylee should have been able to trust and count on her mother to protect her. Plus neglect - not calling cops when Caylee was "kidnapped" - which is what she was initially held on, along with the credit card theft and auto theft since that is what her mother called the cops to have Casey arrested on, since she could not get Casey to come home and tell them what happened to Caylee. Cindy gave the investigators the wrong hairbrush when they asked for Caylee's brush and has been making excuses ever since despite admitting she never met this alleged nanny who was supposedly watching the granddaughter. No one has ever met her, the houses Casey showed cops where she'd dropped Caylee off to the nanny were shown to be an empty apt and an old folks' home.
Casey got out on bail after that for a few days but was put back in when all these lies started to come out, and began leading the police on a merry chase. Caylee went missing in June I think, her abduction was reported in July =only when Grandma got on the phone, and her body was found in December I think. Casey was then charged with murder. her laptop was seized and there was stuff on it about how to make chloroform as well as pictures of Casey out partying during the time her daughter was missing when she was supposedly out looking for her.
This family is f*cked up beyond recognition, and it seems Caylee went down in a hail of friendly fire between mom and grandma and now they are covering their asses. Blaming the repairman who found Caylee, blaming the non existent nanny, etc. Grandpa George ran away from home and tried to commit suicide at one point a while back - he seems to know what the outcome here will be and can't handle it.
Cindy had Caylee's remains cremated after the morgue was done with her, specifically going against Casey's wishes to have a resting place where she could visit Caylee when she "got out" - Casey's main interest has been in trying to get out of jail, Grandma now claims or did claim after the body was identified, not to believe that Caylee is dead, that she is still "out there" - a lot of guilt inside this family albeit not from the one charged with the murder.

Casey never had plastic surgery nor did she support her daughter - the parents (Casey's parents, Caylee's grandparents) paid all the bills and supported Casey and Caylee. Casey lied about having a job, which, oddly, her parents did not seem to challenge where she got her money if she had any, apart from what she stole from her family and friends. Cindy's job as a nurse covered her daughter and granddaughter's medical insurance, even.
You wonder where they thought she got the money to pay for the "nanny" - if my daughter who lived with me was taking my grandchild out to a nanny while she was at work, you can best believe I'd know where my daughter worked, howmuch she made (if I was paying for all her expenses and she paid no rent) and would have met and vetted the nanny before allowing a child I loved and took responsibility for, to be in any one else's care especially my irresponsible party girl daughter.
Cindy claimed that she "trusted" Casey as Caylee was her daughter and responsible for her care, so never felt she had to meet the nanny- but the evidence shows that she did not trust Casey as far as she could throw her. I think when this fight went down between them, Cindy had decided to use tough love at last and let Casey take off with Caylee thinking "she'll be back! She can't handle Caylee alone, we'll see how long it is before she is asking me for money, or to babysit, or wanting to come home, and then we'll discuss what the terms are for her coming home"- she had discussed with her nurse colleagues her frustration with Casey and thinking she ought to get custody of Caylee. I think casey wanted to punish her mother but also did not have the financial means, interest nor stamina to care for Caylee in order to get her mother to break and ask them to come back home. So she killed her. There is some notion this was accidental - as part of the "drugging Caylee to sleep" scenario that apparently was something Casey did and confessed to friends and to one jail inmate.
Casey also referred to the nanny before, as "zanny the nanny" - the notion is however than Zanny the nanny is a drug code for using drugs to "babysit" your child -Zanny being Xanax. If it's out there and known in drug circles as a kind of joke, then I am thinking this kind of thing is probably not confined to the 20 year old moms in the US but is a more common phenomenon.
After all, use of prescription drugs has skyrocketed, one fifth of the US adult population is on anti depressants of some type - eventually someone had to move beyond putting Tylenol or Calpol in the baby's bottle - or rubbing whiskey on their gums which my mother tells me was supposedly a teething remedy in days gone by! - to giving them prescription drugs (that were not prescribed for THEM or for kids that age) to get them to sleep.
hard to explain the duct tape in that case although I have heard it said that Casey might have done that to make it seem that Caylee had been kidnapped. The fact that there was a heart shaped sticker on the duct tape - also something Casey did when burying her pets, putting a heart sticker on the shroud - tells me Casey did put the duct tape there, either to suffocate Caylee, stop her crying or later, but whatever reason, this is documented by her friend that told cops to look in the pet cemetary, that this was Casey's practice when burying her hamster. It's too grotesque to grasp that someone could do this then go get a La Vida Bella tattoo, without being a sociopath -

Do you remeber that video of Casey, going into the video store with her boyfriend to get a film, exactly around the time Caylee would have been in the boot of her car, widowan? Sick!! And Cindy claiming there'd been a dead body in the car, she knew as soon as she opened it up by the smell!! Yet she now claims her daughter is innocent!

Re: Casey Anthony trial (murder of 2 year old daughter and faked abduction) begins May 9 2011
I do remember it and IIRC there was something dodgy about the content - this is at the same time Casey's BF or at least bed mate of the week, recalled her waking up drenched in sweat from nightmares.
Truly horrible to think of the way that little girl died. The family always seems to jump in to defend the murderer or criminal - the elephants surround their calves, try to protect them, if one is killed or died, they mourn it -briefly - then move on to protect their surviving herd mates. It seems instinctive. I can see why Cindy wants to protect Casey - that's her child - Caylee's gone, she's beyond harm now - as well as the fact that given this big fight they had and this ongoing fight over Caylee, she has a huge amount of guilt.
KNowing casey had Caylee and the state she was in, she should never have allowed her to take Caylee. When they weren't home that next night Cindy should have gone after her. I think she believes she could have prevented this, was in part a cause of it, and certainly let Casey roam and gave her enough rope to hang herself with as well. Had they found Casey and not Caylee the following day, if the police were called then Casey would still ahve had a shot at saying it was accidental. She'd not have had all the month to party and make herself look like a sociopath.
You can't hold a parent responsible for what their sociopath daughter does - no matter how angry I got at my mother or OH I would never kill my child as a way to punish them, that is so sick - that is all down to casey herself. She wanted to use her daughter as a way to get free room and baord from her parents and attention, use her like a hostage. Although from what it appears the child had a very happy childhood apart from whatever was going on when "zanny the nanny" was watching her. In the last video we have of her, singing You are my Sunshine to her great grandfather in the nursing home the day of that fight, she had dark circles under her eyes that made me wonder if she'd been drugged the night before. As a grandmother I think I'd notice that. They were trying to force more responsibility for Caylee onto Casey and she was pushing back - taking the girl out nights with her and her friends would say Caylee would sleep on their couch dead to the world, despite all the activity and noise.
Sound familiar?

I've only just started looking at this case and have watched a few videos on youtube showing the parents talking to Casey whilst in jail. I feel very sorry for the parents of Casey. The mother (Cindy) knows the score and from what I saw was trying to make her daughter confess. I can't think of a worse situation for a grandparent to be in. Mourning the loss of your grandchild and then the awful stomach clenching pain of knowing your child did it.

I agree, people are very angry with Cindy but to me the pain of losing your grandchild in these circumstances would be so horrendous not less but more because your daughter did this - to punish YOU.
I found a blog that goes way back in the archives, by a young local woman, and I will post the link here. I like her perspective, her energy, her compassion for Cindy, and her immense coverage of this- if you look at the archives to Decenmber 2008 that is when they found a child's remains (dec 11) but it goes back even further to July of 2008 when the case was opened, and up to the present.
This page links to a December 2008 about Cindy and george getting off a plane having rushed back from Calif where they were on Larry King, following a sighting they thought could be Caylee, back to Orlando when the remains were recovered. Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch broke this to the press stating that OCSO (Orlando Co Sheriff's Office) had called him with the statement "we've got her"
http://citizenkim.wordpress.com/2008/12/11/george-and-cindy-anthony-escorted-from-plane-at-oia-more-than-a-courtesy/
That makes chills go up my spine, they found this partial skeletal remains where he and his team had been searching nearby and told him they gound her, of course at the time they hadn't known who it was but two blocks from Anthony's home, a child's skull is found, this was in the place the same repairman had gone in August to pee and seen this bag he found suspicious, OCSO would not go into the woods out of fear of snakes and ruining their shoes - the guy never felt good about the lack of follow up so he went back 4 months later, the bag was there, he prodded it or picked it up and this skull fell out with the duct tape still partially on there. I think he THEN called the cops for the third or fourth time and they got out there, I recall the helicopters and all the CNN and local news was focused on that.
This links you to December 2008 posts and you can see on the bottom right the archives that go back to the beginning if you want to see how this played out from the beginning before the trial begins May 9th.

Re: Casey Anthony trial (murder of 2 year old daughter and faked abduction) begins May 9 2011
I recall and she mentions here that Tim Miller and his team had gotten flack for leaving this area when one of their ATVs got stuck, it was 4 feet in water, and Nancy Grace at this point said "you never made a better call in your life" because had they gone in there and ploughed over everything a lot of evidence could have been destroyed,
meanwhile Casey was telling her mom that she felt Caylee was close to home and telling her brother lee when he came to visit to "in all honesty" look in place near by, familiar to them and their family - this was their old stomping grounds by their school - it was as if she was coaching him where to look so he could find and move Caylee's body. I think she thought her brother would help her -but it was eerie that she had this feeling in her "gut" that Caylee was "close" to home- yeah, right off the roadway two blocks from home, not even an attempt to bury her which I guess is not that unusual at all, burying is difficult. Anthony's private dick had a call from someone to check this area, someone he claimed was a psychic who gave him exact coordinates to look by this set of three pavers - cement blocks - which is where she was ultimately found, about five feet away from them. Psychic or insider info coming from Lee to Cindy to her detective? He didn't find Caylee, several people seemed to have looked, and she was there all the time. So easy to miss - they had cadaver dogs in that area too although when it was several feet under water.
Had Casey bothered to go 20 miles outside Orlando and dump the body in some random swamp she might not be in jail now, or at least not with this kind of evidence, including the blanket off Caylee's crib. Since that did not go outside, it means whoever put her there went into the house and got her blankie. Casey suggests the nanny had keys to their house... explaining why the laundry bag and other things found with the body were there.

Re: Casey Anthony trial (murder of 2 year old daughter and faked abduction) begins May 9 2011
thanks for posting this AnnaEssa - this is pretty representative of what we saw here although for the day by day detail the Sentinel is a wealth of case information, there is a site with all the legal documents on it too- stocdocs or docstoc or something if you put Casey Anthony in the search engine on that site it has witness interviews (not eye witness but Casey's friends) and lots of records about the case - and for what the bloggers are saying I have left a link that is representative of that.
As always, someone on the side of the defense will say there is no proof, however they must view proof differently than I do. There is more than enough circumstantial evidence even without the body I think they could have nailed her. But with the body and the things found with it, where it was found, it would be difficult to think who else would possibly do this- especially given the mother did not call police at any point.
Cindy only began to turn around when it dawned on her, I believe, that Casey hadn't hidden Caylee, but that she had killed her. The idea that the law would not treat Casey as her mother would have done but would hold her to higher standards and accountability seemed to hit Cindy like a bolt out of the blue. Then her maternal protection of her daughter kicked in. It could have been any body in Casey's car, not just the daughter who wasmissing and whose hair was in the trunk, there was no proof caylee was dead then where there was proof caylee was dead there was no proof Casey did it.
Casey is such a habitual liar she did not care what lies fell out of her mouth, she would lie when the police were right there able to prove her lies like when they went to her "place of work" she brazenly took them right in the front door and back into the offices before she finally gave up and admitted she didn't work there. Same with the places Zanny had lived and watched Caylee- she takes them to the back of a building and tells them Zanny had lived in it then they go around and find out it's been an old folks home for some years. She seemed to think the police would not follow up on any of this but would simply take her word for everything, as her parents evidently had done for years.
Casey is a true sociopath and I don't think she changed dramaticallly as her BF said - I think he just didn't know what she was capable of.
Scott Peterson was like this, people who knew him could not believe - even his in laws - that he could ever harm Laci or their baby.
And in general people seem to think that people who abuse or kill their children must never have loved them or shown love to them - they think of people who horrifically abused their kids for years, not people who just got tired of wearing the mask of mother or father or husband - and just decided to get rid of that burden.
Niel Enwistle too - no one who knew this guy could think he'd shoot a 9 month old baby in the belly from a couple feet away and then watch her death throes. They seem to be like cornered rats who lash out and then after they've gotten rid of the burdensome bit of their life, go on to feel relieved and feel better, go out and party and sleep well and grin and so on. They seem surprised when police and others are not as able to move past that as they are, and want to ask a lot of boring questions about who killed who.
