The conspiracy theorists will have a field day linking this to some sort of promise (By way of a loan guarantee pre-condition) by the Portuguese Government to accede to what could be seen as a "treading on your toes" exercise by SY.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist.

Absolutely no idea. I'm not a conspiracy theorist.
But Cameron isn't as daft as some folk seem to think and I wonder if he has seen an opportunity to perhaps overcome a little local difficulty over the protocol for getting SY involved. The McCann letter might have dovetailed nicely with something already "on the table".
Beyond that mere speculation, I cannot go.

If the British Government participate in an economic bailout of any country in the Eurozone, it is on the basis of a loan repayable with interest and it is done because British banks would stand to lose far more in the event of that country defaulting on its debts. In other words, it is considered to be in the best interests of Great Britain to participate with this loan. Such interests are far more important than anything to do with the McCanns. To use a favourite phrase of Cameron's, "Calm down dear, its got nothing whatsoever to do with the McCanns."

i dont think that it is anything to do with the mccanns...but as for impotance that depends on who the mccanns know...or what they are involved in..
but i agree that a lot of conspiracy theories are plain daft...but some are real and some have whistleblowers who risk life and family and break the chain..politics and money and power do not equal clarity and truth..
see...wiki....Operation Mockingbird was a secret Central Intelligence Agency campaign to influence domestic and foreign media beginning in the 1950s.
