Hi halfamo,
See, I was right!! the Terrorists have moved from Hamburg to Frankfurt and infecting the water which runs into a stream which happens to be used by Farmers . It"s not funny really and if they havn"t done so already , the German Health Dept should call in experts from all over the
World The Press are not reporting on this at all so I assume the number of cases has not increased over the last few days.

Re: KILLER CUCUMBER OUTBREAK SPREADS
It's just possible that this is where the recent source in the water started. It was some years ago in Spain that they traced it to a contaminated stream into which effluent from cows being used to wash lettuce. But it doesn't explain the so far 'unknown strain' and how this occurred.

It was 37 at the last count a couple of days ago but no international news nor U.K. News. Admittedly Syria and Greece is the main topic but now the
cause has shifted to Water no one is saying anything.

ITS A BIT LIKE HIV,IN THAT WHEN THEY TESTED OLD BLOOD SAMPLES,THEY SUPPOSEDLY FOUND HIV IN SAMPLES BACK IN THE 1950S,EVEN THOUGH HIV WAS FIRST DISCOVERED IN THE 1980S.

Thank you for that information. I wonder then, as it's been around for some time, what the trigger was that made it surface. Lack of rain making the dilution in the water more potent ?

The strain found in the stream in Frankfurt is the new mutated strain the one that has killed 37 people that is the way it read to me.

That sounds about right - they would be unaware if the water was contaminated and be drawing water to wash produce. I used to work in harvesting crops and usually they arrive from the field splashed with mud if it's been raining. So someone would grab the water hose and spray them down. This could be how it happened. But then - it doesn't explain how it got into the stream.

Hi halfamo
Yes, I see - so they are testing a sewerage plant - not a lab then ?
ETA Just had a thought they could have been "watering" the cucumbers with water from the stream - same as the beansprout man ?

Nooo no mention of labs they would keep that quiet , still seems strange because it does sound like something that was made , maybe to order.

Re: KILLER CUCUMBER OUTBREAK SPREADS
Have just seen on Sky ticker tape that an outbreak of E.Coli in France leading to 8 people being hospitalised has been traced to a producer in Britain.
I did seen a organic producer some time ago showing how they mixed manure with water and the aerated it with oxygen and then sprayed onto their crops in the field. I have never seen this done in all my years in agriculture so to me this seemed very strange. I wonder if this practice is safe ?
Manure spreading generally happens well before the plants are put in the ground. It's ploughed in then harrowered and rolled to flatten the surface and left for it to settle. Then they return with a planter to plant the seedlings.

I heard a man from T&M on Radio 4 yesterday. He said that they'd sold many thousands of packs of those seeds and it was odd that more people had not been affected in more countries.

Thousands of packets of seeds sold around the world and only 10 cases in France (so far)....perhaps France shouldn't be quite so quick to point a finger of blame

Re: KILLER CUCUMBER OUTBREAK SPREADS
Just a quick Newsflash confirmed 6 children in France taken ill with e-coli, source seems to be Sprouts grown in England. If true, sprouts are a Seasonal
Veg so why would they be availavle in France at this time of year.? It"s beginning to look as though the way crops are grown, ie. manure.....could the
cause be water or something in the manure.? It doesn"t make sense that all these outbreaks in different Countries are being attributed to different
foods.
