They don't seem to have any idea its spreading so quickly it seems to be mutating some people who have it are suffering bad headaches speech problems & epilepsy. No its not airborn but very virulent so experts say , i bought some antibacterian hand wipes yesterday and i;ve always got the same in spray form in the house , its getting too close for comfort now.

The anti-bacterial hand wipes are practically useless. It will remove only the surface bacteria and allow other bacteria to thrive. Similarly, surface cleaners, after 30 minutes the surface will be repopulated. Lavender oil is as useful and probably healthier than any of those products. A few drops in a litre of water to spray surfaces or rinse your hands, but soap and water for hand washing is the best you can do.

Crikey halfamo,
Well living in Germany you would have first hand information have the Health Authority in Germany established that all those affected ate salad ingredients? That really is scary if it is mutating and it"s affected so many other Countries., very strange and very scary.

Hi Badboy
I think they are guessing and with so many Countries affected they would have to question every single person who has been ill to see if they all ate the same product. The fact it is spreading so rapidly is worrying , not like swine flu where you could have the jab.

Spain to demand compensation from Germany over the cucumber crisis
Read more: http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news/publish/article_30742.shtml#ixzz1OADqTDF4
The Spanish Prime Minister made it clear it wants to hear 'the fullest explanation'. Meanwhile 300 kilos of produce has been dumped outside the German consulate in Valencia.
It has now been revealed that none of the four cucumbers which originated the E.coli alert in Germany was actually infected. Confirmation of the error came on Thursday from the Federal Institute of Risk Prevention in Berlin.
So far the outbreak, which some experts now think could continue for months, has caused 16 deaths in Germany and one in Sweden, and there has been as many as 2,000 suspected cases in total.
The Spanish Prime Minister, speaking on National Radio on Thursday, made it clear that Spain is going to ‘ask for the fullest explanations and sufficient compensation from Germany.
JosĂ© Luis RodrĂguez Zapatero commented that the EU should have acted more firmly in the cucumber crisis. ‘The European Commission has been slow’, he said. ‘Once the person responsible in Hamburg denied that the cucumbers were the source, Brussels should have reacted more firmly and quicker’.
The European Commission has meanwhile asked for a meeting with Russia following their decision to prohibit imports of vegetables from the EU.
The World Health Organisation has now affirmed that the outbreak is caused by a previously unknown strain of E.coli. They think it has mutated from two bacteria, each with lethal genes.
Meanwhile farmers and growers from Valencia have dumped 300 kilos of vegetables outside the German consulate in the city.
They said they did so in protest at the ‘irresponsible’ management of the cucumber crisis by the German authorities, and in demand of an advertising campaign to re-establish the prestige of Spanish produce.

Thanks mara thon
Apparently the disease affects the kidneys and blood and the fact it is mutating is very worrying. I"m glad Spain is taking action against Germany who were so quick to play the blame game.

Re: KILLER CUCUMBER OUTBREAK SPREADS
Deadly E.coli Is 'New Super Toxic' Strain
Tweet 62 Comments8:45pm UK, Thursday June 02, 2011
The E.coli which has struck down four more people in the UK after killing 17 across Europe is an "entirely new super-toxic" strain, scientists have said.
News that researchers may be narrowing down the strain causing the outbreak came as it emerged three suspected cases of the bug had been found in the US.
A statement from the Beijing Genomics Institute said the bacteria contained several genes that were resistant to antibiotics.
Analysis shows the bacterium is an enterohemorrhagic E.coli (EHEC) O104 strain, but is a "new serotype - not previously involved in any E.coli outbreaks".
More than 90% of the bacterium is the same as a virulent strain that causes serious diarrhoea, but the new strain has "also acquired specific sequences", the statement said.
E.coli: Your Questions Answered
What is E.coli, what does it do and how can you avoid contamination?
Find out how to stay safe, with advice from Sky's regular medical contributor Dr Sarah Jarvis.
Hilde Kruse, a food safety expert at the World Health Organisation, said earlier: "This is a unique strain that has never been isolated from patients before."
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed the new cases in the UK as it urged British families to wash their fruit and vegetables.
It takes the number of infections in Britain to seven after three other cases surfaced soon after the outbreak in northern Germany in mid-May.
The HPA said three of those infected in the UK had been struck with the more severe hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) - a rare and lethal complication arising from infection associated with E.coli.
The agency said the seven cases - three British nationals and four Germans; two living and one holidaying in England - are linked to recent travels in Germany.
Britons have been urged to wash fruit and vegetables before eating
It sent a strong message to people travelling to Germany to follow the advice of authorities and avoid eating raw tomatoes, cucumbers and leafy salad including lettuce, especially in the north of the country.
And it urged anyone returning to the UK from Germany with illness, including bloody diarrhoea, to seek urgent medical attention, ensuring they mention their recent travel
As the Food Standards Agency confirmed there was no evidence to suggest the deadly bug had contaminated salads being sold in Britain, the HPA told consumers they should still be cautious when preparing food.
"It is a good idea to wash fruit and vegetables before you eat them to ensure that they are clean, and to help remove germs that might be on the outside of them," it said.
Health experts have said more people are expected to be infected as researchers work to try and pinpoint the cause of the outbreak.
Some have said it could take months before the origin is found, while others say it may never surface.
The deadly E.coli bacteria has infected more than 1,500 people across Europe with cases reported in Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland as well as the UK and Germany.
UK HEALTH PROTECTION AGENCY CHIEF BOB ADAK
With no relief in sight, Russia is doing everything possible to ensure it remains infection free and has extended its ban on vegetable imports to all of the EU.
Viktor Semenov, MP and head of Greenhouses of Russia Association, criticised the decision, saying the measures were "too large scale and too sudden".
The EU Commission has also called for the immediate withdrawal of Russia's ban.
But Dmitry Bobkov from the Russian agriculture ministry defended the move saying it would benefit local farmers.
He added: "The EU share in imported vegetable is not that big. For example, cucumbers from EU are only 5% of the imported cucumbers at the Russian market."
Spain's cucumber exports were stopped after they were initially blamed
And days after Spain's organic cucumbers were cleared of carrying the infection, its government has vowed it will seek compensation from Germany, who wrongly linked its produce to the E.coli outbreak.
Spanish farmers were forced to stop exports and destroy thousands of tons of cucumbers with losses expected to run in to the millions.
In Valencia, farmers dumped some 300kg of cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and other produce outside the German consulate in protest.
The outbreak is already considered the third-largest involving E.coli in recent world history.
Twelve people died in a 1996 Japanese outbreak that reportedly originated in radish sprouts and made more than 12,000 ill - and seven died in a 2000 Canadian outbreak traced to drinking water.

Germany Considering Compensation for Spanish Cucumber Growers
http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news/publish/article_30761.shtml
The German Chancellor and Spanish Prime Minister have spoken on the phone.
German Chancellor, Angel Merkel has promised the Spanish Prime Minister, JosĂ© Luis RodrĂguez Zapatero, that she will study aid from the EU for Spain following the cucumber crisis.
The two leaders are now reported to have spoken by telephone after the German chancellor returned from an Asian tour, and during which Merkel is reported to have lamented the damage done to Spanish producers. However she also defended the actions of the Hamburg administration which opened the crisis initially blaming Spanish cucumbers for the outbreak of E.Coli.
Zapatero for his part expressed his condolences for the 17 Germans who have died as a result of the outbreak of what is now considered to be mutant bacteria.
The German Government is now reported to be ‘considering formulas’ for the compensation of the affected farmers in Spain.

It is not airborne yet specific to travellers , apparently serious kidney problems are a result. Why Havn"t the WHO closed all flights to and from
Hamburg until the root cause is found. We are talking about people who travelled from Hamburg all the way to the U.S.A. did not show symptoms
until safely home.....doesn"t make sense Badboy.

Doctors Plea For Blood As Killer Bug Spreads
Tweet Comments6:37am UK, Saturday June 04, 2011
Doctors in Germany are appealing for donations of blood as the E.coli outbreak, which has affected 11 people in the UK so far, continues to spread.
German newspapers reported doctors having to give blood transfusions to those hardest hit in the north of the country.
Globally more than 1,800 people have been infected so far, and 18 have died.
All are from or have visited northern Germany but experts are yet to find out the source of the outbreak.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said eight people in Britain have bloody diarrhoea and three are being treated for haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) - a deadly complication of E.coli.
Around one in three of all of the people affected have been hit by HUS, a complication that affects the blood, kidneys and, in severe cases, the central nervous system.
The number of HUS cases in Germany has risen to 520 and 1,213 cases of bloody diarrhoea linked to the outbreak have been reported so far.

Re: KILLER CUCUMBER OUTBREAK SPREADS
I agree that they should be doing something more positive about this outbreak - at least restricting travel - not that anyone would want to travel to Germany if that is where the contact started. I suspect that people are being cautious any way. The fact that WHO doesn't have a handle on this speak volumes to me. It is not impossible to think that this was an accidental release - I wonder what labs in and around Germany are testing at the moment.
