I don't know what to think.
I wouldn`t visit their facebook page, but if this is the case, then surely the powers that be will have them correct it. The audacity and arrogance of the Mcs never ceases to shock me.

Dimsie wrote:True, and that's why I think the end result of this review may well be back to the case being shelved once again. I HOPE of course that something new comes to light, or that fresh thinking on some aspect of the case might bear fruit, but I'm realistic enough to know that it might not happen like that. One thing is certain though and that's that unless SY can prove - not just say they think - Madeleine was abducted, there's no way that will put paid to suspicions about what really might have happened to her. The Portuguese have made it clear they don't favour the theory of abduction over the other theories mentioned in the summing up, and the fact remains that it's their case, it's not a British one. If SY wish to persuade anyone that Madeleine was abducted, they'll have to prove it. If they say she wasn't abducted but instead died and her body removed, they'll have to prove that too. Otherwise, back to square one.A_T wrote:dumouchelwolf wrote:I can't imagine it and if by some fluke they get away with this.
Then all faith in the belief that the SY are the best to deal with this case hits rock bottom.
IF sy do the job correctly and efficently and look at all papers etc concerning this case then they should know that the Macs are telling a few porkies
But fibs about the checking and the muddled account of the night she vanished won't be enough for any prosecution. The police will have to prove a serious crime has been committed and unless there is some evidence we don't know about or SY find something new the result will be the same as the Portuguese investigation.
back to square one with the difference that now it's Scotland Yard saying they aren't cleared. Not just the PJ. That is a huge difference.
If there is not enough evidence to bring this to trial, the right thing to do is shelve it, and not do so with some kind of pubilc spanking of them for being neglectful, that is not SY's role. It will be treated like any other possible homicide or death and shelved until they can get more.
It won't be difficult to explain by any bizarre conspiracy on SY's part or the government's part. This is how it works. You have lots of money - you hire a million dollar dream team to tell your story your way and keep you from facing a trial - and there you have it, unless the investigators have good evidence, they have certainly spent a TON of Madeleine's money preventing that outcome and all done legally, apparently - you can't libel someone by claiming they killed their kid or hid her body but the suspects can do a whole campaign to throw off the scent onto abduction.

Oldartform wrote:We are all thinking that the PJ could be rather disgruntled at SY checking their work, but maybe its what they`ve been hoping for. Maybe its the only way they can bring the Mcs to justice, by luring the Mcs own country`s justice system into the case. It was always going to prove difficult for the PJ to bring a case once they`d escaped Portugal and as we know the friends wouldn`t go back for a re-construction and the PJ couldn`t force them.
Maybe there is more unreleased information - and the simple sharing of it with SY could do the trick. Yes, it could damage PJ egos a bit, but worth it to get the desired result. And it would also prove the PJ were right all along.
Exactly. Why should they pay a fortune to fight the lawyers in the UK on issues of extradition and trying to get records and so on if the UK team will do it for them. Potentially with the Fund if they look into it and find any wrong doing the case could move to the UK at least on that particular crime if there is one.

Since the book, with history rewritten, there are lots of things that they have changed their minds about, as well as the famous jemmied/unjemmied shutters and the locked/unlocked door. If stories change, then there must be lies! Why are the key people allowed to lie and not be properly questioned?
The lies Do come in but that is a point that bolsters the main case, lying about checking or what not in itself is clearly not enough.
People are not "allowed" to lie - they tend to lie and they can also remain silent. You can't grill them therefore, they have a right to silence. A better question might be why are they allowed to hire a friggen Campain manager to do it for them, I think McCanns snuck in under a wire somewhere on that. At the same time they are claiming they cannot speak due to secrecy of justice they have a whole team blabbing out their story to the UK press.
Unless you KNOW that Caylee wasn't abducted, I guess it'd be too cruel to prevent the parents from taking donations to search for her. But their stories seemed to go well beyond that, in describing an abductor no one saw the face of, and to put that photofit out there as the abductor. Their press spokesperson used the press expertly, as he is paid to do and knows well how to do. All those sightings etc - since they were not Caylee they really had no point other than to make money for the paper and to broadcast the abduction idea in the public's mind.

I totally agree, squeaker. I foolishly thought that giving a statement to the police was a serious matter - you had to try and ensure that you gave clear and accurate answers to the best of your beliefs. What is the point in reading it through and signing it as true to the best of your belief if you can just say the complete opposite next time you are asked. If there are no repercussions for this, people can just tell the plod any old nonsense and giving false statements to the police counts for nothing.

Re: Can you imagine the public outcry if SY clear them
If this turns out to be a whitewash I don't think there will be riots on the street or marching on Downing St because most people are not bothered. Most people are sick to death of them as the comments sections show, but it's only us stalwarts on these forums who check everyday for news.
The Brits are sick of lying mp's, pm's, lawyers etc and know this could go the same way as the Kelly enquiry and the Iraq enquiry. Millions spent and no-one accountable.
There's no hope for kate and gerry, but their friends, family and anyone close to them will never, ever find peace imo. I think about this case every day and I'm not involved. How will the ones either in the know or suspicious of the abduction story ever put this out of their minds?

Good points - but you must admit its very neatly done is it not.
This is exactly what the McCanns and the Tapas7 wanted.
It will go nowhere either way.
Nicely parceled up and put back on the shelf.
I sincerely believe that this is what will happen. I don't want this - but what can we do. Whoever was in charge of manipulating this ending was extremely clever.
Angelique, if the McCanns are been helped, then why hasn't the case been resolved well befor now, why haven't the McCanns been given the information they want?? I believe that our Government have got the Portuguese Government where they want them, and could demand the information if they really wanted it and PT would hand it over imo..............so I have quiet a lot of faith in SY and I can't see them losing there good name on a bunch of child neglectors.
