Boy 13 charged with foster carer's murder

A 13-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman in South Lanarkshire.

Dawn McKenzie, 34, was found seriously injured at a house in Devaron Crescent, Hamilton, at around 8pm on Friday.

The foster carer died a short time later in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared on petition at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged with murder.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Ms McKenzie's relatives have spoken of their devastation and said they are "numb with grief" over her loss.

Her family said in a statement at the weekend: "Her husband Bryan is badly shocked and unable to speak to anyone at this time.

"Dawn was a loving wife, daughter, sister, niece, aunt and friend who will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her."
