Toddler carried away by Tornado
A 3-year-old boy's body was found after a widespread search was conducted since his disappearance after Tuesday's deadly tornado outbreak.
Ryan Hamil's body was found in Falcon Lake in Piedmont Thursday morning three to four feet off the shoreline, said Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Chris West.
The Oklahoma medical examiner's office said the latest death brings the death toll from tornado strikes earlier this week to 10.
West said cadaver dogs led police to the general area where Ryan was recovered Thursday morning.
"What we actually believe this morning is that Ryan was carried into the lake, submerged and then probably overnight surfaced," West said.
A change in currents is what West said he believes brought the boy's body to the shoreline.
The search area spanned three counties and included the lake near the boy's neighborhood and fields surrounding Piedmont.
Family members said the child and his two siblings were huddled in a bathtub with their mother when the tornado hit and the boy was ripped from his mother's arms. Ryan's mother, Catherine Hamil, is expected to recover while his sister, Cathleen, is still in critical condition. The youngest Hamil child, 16-month-old Cole, was killed in the storm.
