Re: Rebekah Brooks arrested
Robin Brant, political reporter "Two things seem to have done for John Yates. He was the man charged with reviewing the hacking evidence. He only took eight hours to do that. And he was the man in charge of due diligence on Neil Wallis as PR contractor. It was that man who did for Paul Stephenson and it's almost certainly what has led to the resignation of John Yates."
1417: We're told Assistant Commissioner John Yates will make a statement later this afternoon.

The tweeter said to expect something big on Tuesday. DC has suddenly cut short his visit to South Africa and will leave here in 3.5 hours - bound for home. Let's see what comes tomorrow.

Theres no news of this in the UK, doc.
It has been reported here in the UK. Originally it was a 4 day trade visit to several countries in Africa. It has been shortened to 2 days because the Commons is sitting for an extra day on Wednesday for a statement on the investigations and progress report on the judicial enquiry.

Hacking: Brooks' Lawyer Says She Is Innocent
3:46pm UK, Monday July 18, 2011
Rebekah Brooks' lawyer has denied she is guilty of "any criminal offence" as
she prepares to appear before a group of MPs investigating the phone-hacking
scandal.
The former News International (NI) chief executive, who resigned last Friday, will face the
Culture Select Committee on Tuesday despite being arrested at the weekend.
She was held on suspicion of corruption and phone
hackingon Sunday and then released on bail around 12 hours later
after being questioned by officers.
Following her detention, it had not been certain whether she would go to the
committee hearing due to active criminal proceedings.
But a spokesman for Mrs Brooks, 43, confirmed she would definitely be at
Tuesday's session and she always wanted to appear before the committee.
The ex-News Of The World (NOTW) editor will appear by herself at 3:30pm,
while her former boss News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch and his son James, the NI chairman, will be giving evidence an
hour earlier at 2:30pm.
All three will be quizzed over the phone-hacking scandal centred around the
now-closed tabloid.
Mrs Brooks' solicitor Stephen Parkinson said: "She is not guilty of any
criminal offence. The position of the Metropolitan Police is less easy to
understand.
"Despite arresting her (on Sunday) and conducting an interview process
lasting nine hours, they put no allegations to her and showed her no documents
connecting her with any crime.
"They will in due course have to give an account of their actions and in
particular their decision to arrest her with the enormous reputational damage
that this has involved.
"In the meantime, Mrs Brooks has an appointment with the Culture, Media and
Sport Select Committee (on Tuesday).
"She remains willing to attend and to answer questions. It is a matter for
Parliament to decide what issues to put to her and whether her appointment
should place at a later date.

I think she talked and that"s why Yates resigned today , Rebekah didn"t get where she is/was without being very clever. It"s possible she will do a plea
bargain , although it is not as popular as in the U.S.A..I also think it is morally wrong for SY to be investigating itself after two enquiries produced
no evidence.

I suspect the clever bit was NI "discovering" emails which implicated Coulson (and possibly Wallis). What better way to try and plug the investigation than to embarass No10 and SY.

Hi Chris, Yes ,I agree and the person who will come out of this with his reputation sorely undermined is Cameron. It wasn"t just the faux pas he made by employing Coulson, it is his familiarity with Rebecca, and the Murdochs. Rupert made sure he was going to be Elected PM by publicly supporting
Cameron and was seen entering No 10 the morning after the election result. Although I can"t stand him, Miliband has taken the high moral ground,
forgetting that Labour was in power during the two previous investigations.
Also, I think it significant that Rebekah will not sit with the Murdochs at the Meeting tomorrow, she will be interviewed seperately.

Hmmmn
Possibly. She does look like her hair is made up of spiteful serpents.
However, if conclusive proof comes out that the Murdochs and execs in their empire bribed politicians and policeman, then they will be in big trouble in the States too. Regardless of whether or not they hacked 9/11 victimes or did anything wrong over there.
