Breaking News
5:46pm UK, Sunday July 24, 2011
Police Guard 'Was Meant To Be On Island'
A police guard had been due to be on the Norwegian island where a gunman
massacred at least 86 people but detectives do not know where he was, they
reveal.
"There was supposed to be a police officer there," acting police chief
Sveinung Sponheim told a news conference, adding that it is unclear where he
was.
He also said a British police expert is helping the investigation into
Friday's twin attacks that killed at least 93 people as part of cooperation with
foreign forces.
"We have received help from the Metropolitan police in London by a criminal
technician expert," Mr Sponheim said.
The suspect accused of the killings has confessed to police that he carried
out the attacks but said he did not break the law.
Police said 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik is also adamant that he acted
alone.
Breivik wearing uniform that says 'Muliticulti Traitor
Hunting Permit'
His confession came as police launched an operation in connection with
Friday's massacre and raided a property in the east of Oslo, arresting six
people.
Officers from the police's counter-terrorism force, known as Delta, swooped
on the address and accessed two chemical containers but found no explosives.
The detainees were later released, with police saying they had no link to the
attacks.
Breivik's lawyer Geir Lippestad has told Norway's NRK television channel that
the suspect was motivated by a desire to bring about a revolution in Norway.
"He wanted a change in society and, from his perspective, he needed to force
through a revolution," he said.
"He wished to attack society and the structure of society. He explained that
it was cruel but that he had to go through with these acts."

Hi Badboy, how do they make that out? Here is a Guy who has admitted to killing 100 people , yet he only gets 21 years? We know Norway is a peaceful
Country who has never experienced anything like this, but surely they have the Death Penalty?

Re: bomb explodes in central oslo
Tragic and utterly appalling. The worst thing is to think that this man is able to justify to himself executing innocent young people, but then history tells us just what right wing extremists and religious fanatics are capable of.
This confirms my opinion that fundamentalists of all religions are potentially terribly dangerous. Such extreme religions just seem to attract an above average quota of nutters.

In Portugal, the maximum sentence is 25 years. We were the first country in Europe to abolish the death penalty.

That's a little brief for certain crimes, in my view.Claudia79 wrote:Panda wrote:That"s a very liberal attidude, I should imagine Norway has very little Crime Rate ...I"m just gonna watch Law and Oder U.K.

Here in SA we get people sentenced to multiple consecutive life terms - though how that is intended to be put into practice has always escaped me!

I know and I agree. But I'd rather have that than the death penalty. I'm totally OK with a life sentence, though.
Re: bomb explodes in central oslo
He is a Monster and the thought that someone who has deliberately taken 93 innocent lives can keep his own is immoral , after all, life is not considered so sacrosanct when it comes to sending our troops to War.
I think his reasons , whether we accept them or not, will resonate with many :-
What tipped the scales for you? What particular things pushed you to plan the attack?
For me personally it was our government's involvement (engagement)
with/in the attack on Serbia (NATO bombing in 1999) several years ago.
It was completely unacceptable the way the U.S. and Western European
regimes bombed our Serbian brothers. There have been many other cases
that have strengthened my resolve. Among them, my government's cowardly
handling of the Muhammed cartoons, and their decision to award the Nobel
Peace Prize to an Islamic terrorist (Arafat). There have been dozens of
other questions. My government and our media capitulated to Islam years
ago, after the Rushdie incident. Since then it has snowballed.
Thousands of Muslims stream in each year through the asylum,
institutions, or family connections in Norway.

It has just been announced that he wants his Trial to be Public.

The Norway massacres
The sentence is too lenient in my view.

Apparently he will have a Computer , Desk and writing materials and his own cell. This man killed 77 people but was not
declared insane and now can use the Computer to spread his hate message . Norwegians have never experienced anything as horrendous as this but there is anger from the Parents about the sentence.

I don't think he has access to the internet. He has been provided with a downloaded version of the wiki encyclopedia.
ETA:
Mr. Breivik, lawyers say, will live in a prison outside Oslo in a three-cell suite of rooms equipped with exercise equipment, a television and a laptop, albeit one without Internet access. If he is not considered a threat after serving his sentence, the maximum available under Norwegian law, he will be eligible for release in 2033, at the age of 53.
However, his demeanor, testimony and declaration that he would have liked to kill more people helped convince the judges that, however lenient the sentence seems, Mr. Breivik is unlikely ever to be released from prison. He could be kept there indefinitely by judges adding a succession of five-year extensions to his sentence.

Re: bomb explodes in central oslo
Yes AnnaEsse, it has been confirmed that he will not have access to the internet so I can't see the Computer being much used to him.
I cannot concieve tha someone who kills 77 young people can be considered sane.!!!!
