Eleven-year-old Celina Cass not been seen since Monday evening.

Some people who know 11-year-old Celina Cass said they are devastated that she disappeared from her home Monday night. But there’s one more thing that makes it even worse.

“She was very shy. If she didn’t know you she would look to her older sister to make sure you were okay,” said Kayla Baglio, 18.

So, some people find it hard to believe she would have run away, much less gone anywhere with somebody she didn’t know.

And that has some of them suddenly worrying about letting their children go out alone.

That’s an unusual thing in a village of 900 people where neighborly trust was the norm.

“We want to know, are our families safe,” said one mother, who declined to be identified.

That’s the only question senior assistant attorney general Jane Young answered during a news conference across from Celina’s home on Wednesday night.

“We would remind people and parents to remain vigilant at all times,” said Young who said state, local police and the now the F.B.I. were working hard to find the girl.

Kieran Ramsey, the supervisory special agent for the F.B.I. in New Hampshire said the agency has deployed its “Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team.”

But despite all that manpower both Young and Ramsey stressed the need for help from the public.

“Right now we believe that the media and the public are law enforcement’s best ally in this effort and we ask the people of New Hampshire and surrounding states to remain vigilant and assist us,” Ramsey said.

Young often handles criminal cases, but said “take nothing of that other than this is New Hampshire and we are putting all our assets to bringing this child home safely.”

She said the disappearance was still being treated as a missing-person case.

She declined to say why no amber alert has been issued.

Late Wednesday afternoon police put crime-scene tape around the large house – which had been converted to apartments - where the family lived. The occupants were moved out.

The house on the main street through town was the last place Celina was seen. That was about 9 pm on Monday as she was using a computer, according to police. She was reported missing the next morning by her stepfather and there was no sign of anything like a scuffle.

Throughout the day Wednesday searchers from Fish and Game continued to check the woods nearby.

Meanwhile small groups of residents clustered near the house and the adjacent police command post.

“You can see how the town feels. We’re wanting a child to come home,” said one woman.

Members of the family weren’t available to comment and when Celina’s mother, Louisa Noyes, came out of the house friends draped her in a white sheet so she couldn’t be photographed.

STEWARTSTOWN — Two days after a schoolgirl was discovered missing from her home in this small town near the Canadian border, an anxious community is banding together.

"We're building a bridge of hope," said Lori Stott, who stood alongside U.S. Route 3 with a picture of the missing girl so passing motorists could see it Wednesday.

Two doors down from the Washington Street home where Celina Cass, 11, lived with her family, a huge law enforcement contingent — including the FBI, New Hampshire and Vermont State Police, the U.S. Border Patrol and the Fish and Game Department — were holed up in a land management company office, directing the search.

"We are desperately trying to look for her," Jane Young, senior assistant attorney general, said at 5 p.m.

At an 8:30 p.m. news conference, Kiran Ramsey of the FBI office in New Hampshire said the Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team has been called into the case. Young said investigators are "treating this as a missing person case."

Around the corner from investigators, a candlelight vigil was being held in the town park. About 200 attended, including Cass' mother, Louisa Noyes, who was in a wheelchair, surrounded by friends and family.

Those who gathered were asked to sing "You are My Sunshine." A picnic table was covered with candles and a photo of the child. Many people were crying.

Earlier in the day, state police detectives wrapped the driveway of Celina Cass' home in yellow tape; the family and friends who had been gathering there all day left the property. South of town, conservation officers and border patrol officers were seen searching the roadside.

Officials are saying little about the investigation, but encourage anyone with information to contact them.
There are more questions than there are answers.

At noon, State Police Detective Sheldon Belanger characterized the case as "not suspicious," but referred further questions to Young, who is a homicide prosecutor.

He said an Amber Alert was not issued because the circumstances of the case have not risen to what he described as "strict criteria."

Throughout the afternoon on Wednesday, conservation officers were dispatched to a couple of areas, where they conducted line searches, including to the Northern View apartments.

"She lived here several years ago," said Art Lincoln, a resident of the complex. "I've known her since she was born."
The complex had several "missing" posters tacked up. Lincoln said he couldn't sleep at all Tuesday, wondering what might have happened to Celina.

Residents describe the area behind the complex as thickly wooded and swampy.

"I've walked up in those woods a lot and it's eerie," Lincoln said.

Shortly after the conservation officers took to the woods, two state police detectives, one carrying a box, went into the woods and came out about 20 minutes later.

Around the corner from the apartment complex, counselors and teachers spent the day at the Stewartstown School, where Celina Cass will be a 5th-grader.

School Superintendent Robert Mills said the girl was popular with the 85 students in the K-8 school and was athletic, playing basketball.

Around town, residents said she could be seen around town with her mother, with whom she was close.

"A lot of kids are upset and I wanted to have people here to give support to them," Mills said. "The parents are scared — what they are hearing is that (Cass) was on the computer and then she couldn't be found."

There is frustration, he said, because "one night she's here and the next morning she's gone."

Since Cass disappeared, Stott said she is taking precautions, including removing fans and locking windows.

"My 18-year-old asked if she could sleep with me last night because she is so scared," she said. "Until now, we never worried about someone taking a child."

Celina Cass was described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 95 pounds. She has long brown hair and hazel eyes, according to investigators.

She was last seen in her home at 9 p.m. Monday, and was wearing a pink shirt, pink pullover, blue shorts and shoes.

The frantic search for missing New Hampshire girl Celina Cass was extended to Canada today and police from at least three states and the FBI have joined the manhunt.

The 11-year-old girl, who lives one mile from the Canadian border, was last seen by her parents at her computer in her bedroom Monday evening. By Tuesday morning, she had vanished from the family's West Stewartstown home.

At least 48 law enforcement agents, some coming from New York and Virginia, have arrived in New Hampshire to aid in the search for Cass, New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young told ABC News. The Royal Canadian Mountain Police are working with New Hampshire officials to look for the girl, he said.

"Until we find her, we are going to continue to scour this area," Young said.

Friends and family described the girl as a shy fifth grader who would never run away or leave with a stranger.


Today, authorities pored through Celina's computer and phone records, looking for any clues into her disappearance. FBI agents have also been seen questioning neighbors on their front porches.

No Amber Alert has been issued for Celina. Authorities are treating this as a missing persons case and no suspects have been named.

Court documents obtained by ABC News reveal that Celina's stepfather, Wendell Noyes, has a troubled past.

Court Docs Reveal Past of Celina Cass' Stepfather

Noyes, 47, was involuntarily committed to a hospital in 2003 because of his schizophrenia and arrested for threatening an ex-girlfriend, according to court documents.

Noyes was charged with violating a protective order held by his ex-girlfriend and for criminal trespassinig, criminal threatening and hindering apprehension.

The girlfriend, who lived with her two kids at the time, said that Noyes broke into her home while she was sleeping, lifted her mattress and slammed it down and then threatened to throw her down the stairs.

While awaiting trial, a judge ruled Noyes incompetent to stand trial and ordered him to be involuntarily placed in a hospital. Judge Richard Hampe wrote that Noyes' mental illness creates "a potentially serious likelihood of danger to himself and others."

A forensic examiner deemed Noyes a paranoid schizophrenic who likey developed his mental illness while in the Air Force, according to court documents.

Attempts to reach Noyes and his wife have been unsuccessful.

FBI Joins Hunt for Missing New Hampshire Girl
Earlier Wednesday, investigators examined clothing in a red pickup truck parked next door to the Cass family home. They also set up police tape around the Cass family home and began examining the home in detail. Celina lives with her mother, stepfather and 13-year-old sister. Celina's stepfather and mother have not released any statements since she vanished.

ABC News consultant Brad Garrett, a former FBI profiler and agent, said that it's not disconcerting that the parents haven't yet spoken. He said that it's key that investigators talk to Celina's friends and glean as much as they can from her computer and phone records.

"I would focus more on what has changed in Celina's life in the last 24 or 48 hours," Garrett said. "The key with kids this age...is to interview those other 11, 12-year-olds that she associates with online or in person."

Celina kept an open Facebook account which could have attracted a sexual predator, Garrett said.

"Predators are out there looking for people like her that they connect with. If she does not have a closed Facebook page, that's a direct entry for someone," Garrett said.

In the last 48 hours, Celina's family and community members have posted flyers emblazoned with Celina's image.

"We're putting them everywhere," Lori McKearney, the girl's aunt, told ABC affiliate WMUR. "We have people going to Lancaster, Jefferson, Whitefield, Littleton. We're going to Pittsburg."

The startled community gathered Wednesday night for a solemn vigil.

"It's a small town and we don't expect anything. Everybody knows everybody, everybody loves everybody. Everybody takes care of everybody. This is not suppose to happen, not here," said Lizette Hewitt at the vigil.

Celina's school houses just 85 students and many of her classmates are afraid.

One girl described her fear as "very, very strong. I miss her a lot, everybody misses her. Everybody's scared. There's nothing much we can do except pray for her. And I wish everybody would do that for her."

Celina is 5-foot-5 and weighs 95 pounds, with long brown hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a pink shirt, a pink pullover, blue shorts and shoes.

I had a look at her own facebook page and there is no one on there that would suggest she has met someone online. she has 30 odd friends and all of them are from the area she lives and all are around her age.

Agree with Pat, like I said in my earlier post, I don't like the look of Noyes.

Noyes has been taken to hospital, today.....KNOWONE knows why?

(CNN) -- A female body was found Monday in the Connecticut River near where authorities were looking for missing 11-year-old Celina Cass, according to Essex County State Attorney Vincent Illuzzi.

The body was found Monday morning in the river near a hydroelectric plant outside Stewartstown, New Hampshire, authorities said.

No more information was released.

The discovery comes a day after Celina's father pleaded for the safe return of the New Hampshire girl.

The father, Adam Laro, who said that he's recovering after being recently released from a hospital, sent a message Sunday to his girl that "Daddy is OK now, I'm getting much better." He did not detail why he had been hospitalized.

He added that he, like others, is "wondering where my daughter is" and hoping she is safe.

"Whenever you want to come home, Celina, Daddy will be here waiting for you," Laro said.

Celina was last seen in her room, at her computer, around 9 p.m. last Monday, according to police. CNN affiliate WMUR reported that her parents told authorities the girl was gone when they went to wake her up Tuesday morning.

A female body has reportedly been found at a dam near the home of missing 11-year-old Celina Cass.

Divers began searching the pond which is less than a mile away from her home in Stewartstown earlier today, focusing on the dam that spans the Connecticut River between Stewartstown and Canaan, Vermont.

Though the body has yet to be identified, it is strongly believed to be Celina, who has been missing from her home for a week.

After a dive team searching the river surfaced, investigators blocked off the area and asked reporters to leave.

Several of the 11-year-old's relatives could be seen at her home crying shortly after roads were blocked off and reporters were asked to leave.

Meanwhile, Celina's stepfather was hospitalised after he was said to have taken a 'funny turn' on the driveway of the family home earlier today after talking to reporters.

Wendell Noyes, who was reportedly involuntarily committed to a mental institution and diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2003, was seen repeatedly lying face down and rolling around in the driveway.

He was said to be receiving treatment for his mental illness.

Celina, who lives with her mother and stepfather, was last seen on Monday night playing on her computer. The next morning, she was gone.

In a news conference yesterday, Celina's biological father, Adam Laro, spoke publicly for the first time, saying: 'Come home. Whenever you are ready to come home, daddy is ready for you.'

Residents described Celina as a sweet, friendly child. One of Celina's best friends, 11-year-old Makayla Riendeau, said Celina loves her mother and likes her stepfather and wouldn't run away.

She said Celina is very athletic, is a stickler about getting her school work done on time and loves having friends over to her house.

Makayla said: 'She's a very good friend, and she never lets anybody down.'

Investigators have knocked on hundreds of doors, and hundreds of fliers with her photo have been put up throughout Stewartstown and nearby communities.

Law enforcement agencies set up a command post at the local school.

The FBI announced on Saturday that it was offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Celina Cass.

The reward would also cover information leading to the arrest and prosecution of anyone responsible for the disappearance of the fifth grader, who was last seen last Monday night.

During the search, police turned their attentions to the missing girl's computer as it was the last place she was seen.

They questioned everyone in the small town of Stewartstown, New Hampshire, which is just a mile away from the Canadian border.

On Friday night, the stepfather of the shy fifth-grader, Wendell Noyes, said family members were 'grieving' - as a friend issued a statement on their behalf with a direct plea to Celina, saying 'we will not stop searching for you until you are back in our arms'.

It has emerged that Noyes, 47, was involuntarily committed in 2003 after being diagnosed with schizophrenia and arrested for threatening an ex-girlfriend.

According to court records obtained by ABC, the woman said Noyes broke into her home while she and her two children slept, picked up her mattress and slammed it down.

She also told authorities that he threatened to throw her down the stairs.

At the time, Judge Richard Hampe ruled Noyes was incompetent to stand trial, writing that the man's mental illness created 'a potentially serious likelihood of danger to himself and others'.

A forensic examiner said Noyes was a paranoid schizophrenic, who most likely developed the condition while he was in the Air Force.

Speaking yesterday from a motel in Canaan, Vermont, where he and Celina's mother are staying, Noyes told the Boston Herald: 'Right now, we’re in the process of grieving.'

At a press conference last night, a friend broke down as she read out a statement on behalf of Celina's family.

She said: 'Our beautiful Celina is a happy child who brings much love and joy into the lives of those who know her. Her safe and speedy return is our sole priority and focus.

'We remain hopeful and vigilant and trust in the investigative abilities of the authorities involved. We pray that our little girl is returned home soon.

'We plead for answers and ask if you saw or know anything at all, however insignificant you may think your information is, that you come forward now without hesitation and share it with our investigators.

'And Celina, if you can hear this now, please know how much we love and we miss you. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers. We will not stop searching for you until you are back in our arms.'

Her disappearance has shaken the small town, with some fearing that she may have been taken out of the country.

State police from New Hampshire and Vermont, along with FBI child abduction specialists and U.S. border patrol, scoured the area Thursday, even sending agents as far as New York and Virginia.

Investigators say they have little to go on, with no signs of an abduction or a struggle but no sign she ran away either.

Jane Young, New Hampshire's assistant attorney general, said they were going to talk to every person in town.

'Every house, every individual in the neighbourhood is being spoken to,' she said.

She added: 'We just continue to look for her with all available assets. We don’t have any evidence at this juncture to indicate that this is a criminal investigation.”

Investigators are painstakingly going through 225 tips, some of which have come from as far away as North Carolina and Illinois.

More than 100 searchers are now involved in the manhunt for the 11-year-old girl, including the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The town of just 800 people is only a mile from Canada.

So far, this extraordinary effort has turned up nothing.

Kiernan Ramsey of the FBI's New Hampshire office told ABC: 'We're using advanced techniques from aviation to canines and the like. We are hopeful some positive outcome could result.'

He added: 'Some have made a lot of debate as to whether this is a missing persons case or an abduction. I will tell you, from the FBI's perspective, labelling of this case does not matter, when it comes to the resources that we are bringing to bear.'

The front lawn of the home where Celina lives with her mother, stepfather and 13-year-old sister has been turned into a shrine, with candles, stuffed animals and notes to the missing fifth grader.

Community members outside the home are flagging down cars and handing out flyers with Celina's image.

'It's a big world and she's a small girl and she's only 11. She doesn't know how to handle herself,' said Stewartstown resident Shahannah Fuller.

Celina's mother and stepfather have not spoken to the television media, and have requested 'absolute privacy'.

On Wednesday an extensive land search was scaled back, and police trawled the Connecticut River using two boats.

They lowered the waterway so helicopters could scour it from the air, while officers desperately searching an area within a half-mile radius of her home.

Friends and neighbours have been holding candlelit vigils for Celina every night since she disappeared, as they desperately pray for her safe return. They gather around a framed photograph of the schoolgirl on a picnic table, surrounded by candles.

Friends say Celina was the last person they'd expect to run away.

Fighting back tears and holding a lit candle at the gathering, family friend Rebecca Goodrum said: 'She never went anywhere without her mom or sister.'

She said: 'She was beautiful. She was the light of everything.'

Another, Kayla Baglio, said: 'She is very shy. If she doesn't know you, she'd look at her sister to see if it was OK to talk to you.

One of Celina's schoolfriends, 11-year-old Makayla Riendeau, said she was very athletic and a stickler about getting her school work done on time.

She said: 'She's a very good friend, and she never lets anybody down.

Shannon Towles, who owns a mini-mart on Route 3, said her disappearance had shaken the town, which has just 800 residents.

She said: 'It's creepy. Things like this don't happen here. I know that's kind of a tired phrase. I'm an overprotective mom as it is. Now it's going to be way worse.'

Mrs Towles said Celina wasn't the type of girl to hitchhike or run away. She said: 'She's just a little girl and she's a nice little girl.'

Celina attends Stewartstown Community School, where she is one of just 85 pupils.

The district superintendent described her as popular and well-liked, and said six counsellors were on hand to help students cope with her disappearance.

Mrs Towles said her daughter, Echo, had asked her whether she thought Celina was still alive.

She said: 'How do I answer that question? And do I want to? I don't want to think about it, but I pray every second that she is.'

Friends and neighbours have spent the last four days posting flyers showing her smiling face on every available lamppost and tree trunk.

On Thursday police searched the woods behind an apartment building about a mile north of the town. They carried bags and boxes, but it was unclear if they collected anything.

Later officers went into Celina's home, then stretched yellow crime scene tape around it before posting a uniformed officer outside.

Then plain clothes police officers wearing purple rubber gloves surrounded a red pick-up truck parked across the street from the house, taking photographs and looking inside.

Lieutenant Douglas Gralenski, a state Fish and Game Department official helping to search the river, said: 'Honestly, we don't know where else we can look. There's so much that's unknown.'

He said: 'It's not a deep river. You'd be hard-pressed to find six to eight feet in most of it in that area. When we had it drawn down, it was exceptionally low.'

The investigation has now been passed on to the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office.

I was hoping that perhaps she met a boy online and was too scared to come home.....but hope has gone now.
