THIS MAY AFFECT THE MONEY DISTRIBUTED AMONG LOCAL AUTHORITIES BY GOVERNMENT,BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT GETS THE MONEY FROM BUSINESS RATES THEN DISTRIBUTES IT EQUALLY.

MORE SHOP CLOSURES ETC MIGHT COME ABOUT BECAUSE OF AN EU DIRECTIVES CONCERNING PARTNERSHIPS AND HEALTH FOOD SUPPLEMENT.

The town in Scotland where I grew up was, at one time, the biggest steel-producing town in the country. Then the foundries closed with mass unemployment. So many of the ex-steel workers used their redundancy money to set up in the taxi business that the local joke was that there were individual taxis for everybody coming out of ASDA!

Walking up our main shopping street today, a shop that sold unusual stone baths, sinks etc., had closed. A shop called 'Mountain Warehouse,' is having a closing down sale.

I can't find anything that might indicate that the whole of Mountain Warehouse is closing, but the local shop here is closing down.

That doesn't surprise me. The chain store clothes shops on our high street and in the arcades are mostly nearly empty these days and even this week when most had started their sales.

It might be, Badboy. What with the supermarkets all selling clothes these days and being out of town with free parking, it's easier to food shop and clothes shop at the same time. In my town, the clothes shops are never that busy, but the council is close to agreeing plans for an enormous new arcade in the town centre. It would be built over where there is now a car park, but car parking is already a problem. So, big new arcade where businesses are struggling and one of the biggest car parks going. Doesn't make sense, really.

I heard the 'Association of British Looters' is getting very concerned about all these store closures.
