I agree Iris, and only buy Newspapers and the T.V. Times there.
Tesco had UK Politicians on the Board so they were able to get planning consent every time they wanted to build a new Tesco, they even bought plots of land for future development. When they built a Tesco Supermarket in Grimsby it turned out to be 20% extra capacity more than the Plans. The Grimsby Councillor said they need not alter the building but the 20% could not be used for selling and either sealed off or used for for some other purpose.
They didn't get it all their own way in Cardiff either. They built a Tesco Extra in a residential part of the City and the residents got so fed up with cars parked outside their houses blocking their garages by shoppers , Delivery Vans taking up space outside, that they forced a meeting with Tesco and won, the shop was removed.
Sainsbury is doing well , the Co-op is very expensive , I like Iceland because if you spend over £25 delivery is free and since I don't drive that's great.

Driving into Warwick this morning, I passed 2 pubs that had closed down. Then there was a convenience food store that had been in business for quite a few years until a Sainsbury's local opened immediately opposite. There's a lighting shop closing down and a cane furniture shop that's closed. I found myself wondering how the upmarket school clothing shop was managing to stay open when all the local supermarkets now sell school things. Then I thought - this is Warwick! There's Warwick School, which has a junior through to A Level student population and there's the private girls' school that's similar. There are also a couple of smaller private schools and I don't think the uniforms for those schools are sold at ASDA!
