Tony Bennet court case. likely to be adjourned
he hearing of McCann V Bennett of the 9th and 10th of May is likely to be adjourned.
During April, Tony became aware of guidance from the Minister for Justice to the Legal Services Commission about the need to grant legal aid to defendants faced with well funded libel claimants.
Tony was refused legal aid in December, but this decision appears to have been wrong. Tony has therefore re-applied, and asked Carter Ruck if they would agree to an adjournment.
Carter Ruck have notified Tony Today, May 3rd that they have agreed. Mr. Justice Tugendhat is being invited to agree to the adjournment.
There will therefore probably be no hearing on 9th and 10th May.

That is fantastic news. Looks like the scales may be finally tipping back in Tony's favour. And well done to Judge Tugendhat!

Re: Tony Bennet court case. likely to be adjourned
oh dear the tears have started already!!!!!
------------
As Bennett has, allegedly some £100,000 in the bank, then I hope it is the MCCANNS who qualify for legal aid.
And if Bennett even thinks about wasting any more taxpayers' money, I am sure he will not mind getting his face in the tabloids yet again.
The Sun loves stories about anti-social nutjobs trying to get legal aid - he will be put in the same category as religious extremists bleating about their Yuman Rites.
Anyway, wasn't he sure he was right? In which case, he shouldn't be worried about the costs, as he wouldn't be paying them.

That is a very good point JFAK. It is keeping the Book story out of the papers.

Well this is yet more tremendously encouraging news - Ever since Panorama things seem to be conspiring against Healy & McCann. Long may it continue.

Their current nasty case of foot-in-mouth disease would seem to be getting worse.

Great news. Ironic that it has come today, May 3rd. I am certain that McCann v Bennett will never happen as the McCanns KNOW that if they get Tony into court, it will be the first time in a British court that the public will be able to learn of some of unpublicised details relating to the disappearance of 3-year-old British girl, Madeleine McCann.

Oh, yes, there is no way that the pair of them are ever going to set foot in any court voluntarily. If Tony ends up there, he will have his day, and all the papers will print it. Some very Unhelpful and Hurtful things might just get printed.

Re: Tony Bennet court case. likely to be adjourned
It's a damn shame that somebody wrongly refused legal aid in the first place. This has no doubt resulted in months of stress and worry.
Still. the wheel of fortune moves on, and the McCanns find that this particular victim of theirs is going to be more strongly armed than anticipated.
Well good for him - and knickers to them!
This anniversary week is not going entirely as planned for them, is it?

Re: Tony Bennet court case. likely to be adjourned
I'm so glad to hear this. There appears to be something fundamentally wrong with a justice system that allows an ordinary person to be dragged through the courts by a wealthy, £600/hour, firm of solicitors who have represented people like Pinochet.
Re: Tony Bennet court case. likely to be adjourned
I'm trying not to be too optimistic but here's a cautious for the time being.

Blub, blub, blub..... and making up stuff about what Tony may 'alledgedly' have in the bank doesn't wash with me.
Just how much have the Mcs got at their disposal?
And remind me again who has been the biggest waste of tax payers money thus far?
Well done Tony

Re: Tony Bennet court case. likely to be adjourned
Even if he has got a hundred grand in the bank, that wouldn't cover Carter-Ruck's fees which were 120 grand a week or so ago and are no doubt increasing by the hour.

Yes, it's all getting a bit interesting, in the week that some newspapers are daring to mention other theories which contradict the official version. And using the term 'mysteries' in reference to the matter.
Will they all get taken to court too?
