The McCanns double standards
I found Drs. McCann unauthorised use of murdered 5 year old Mari-Luz Cortés image utterly insensitive, and their reaction, when pulled up on the matter, grotesque.

Months after Madeleine went missing, another child, Mari Luz Cortés, went missing, though in very different circumstances [in a different Country as matter of fact]. Sadly she has since been found dead. The McCanns printed posters of Madeleine together with Mari Luz - without gaining the parents’ prior permission. Her parents were very upset, and complained.
Clarence Mitchell’s outrage with the Cortés family:
“It is shameful that Mari Luz’s father has brought himself to complain,” was the reaction of Clarence Mitchell, the spokesman for the McCann couple, in response to the request from Juan Jose Cortés that the posters with the photo of his daughter beside Madeleine should not be distributed.

Mari-Luz's parents
The President of the Junta de Andalucía met the Cortés family this weekend to show his support and his hopes for Mari Luz's safe return.
The Cortés family say they are against a poster campaign launched in Spain by the McCann family which shows images of four year old Madeleine alongside their daughter, Mari Luz, who disappeared in Huelva on 13th January, and others pictured with Yeremi Vargas, who was seven when he disappeared from Gran Canaria last year.
Mari Luz’s father, Juan José Cortés, said after a meeting with Manuel Chaves, President of the Junta de Andalucía, this weekend, that, while he is not against collaborating in the search for Madeleine and ‘even helping to draw up a poster of all the missing youngsters,’ the lines of investigation into the disappearance of the two young girls are distinct, and are being carried out in two separate countries. EFE said he is considering taking legal action for using his daughter’s image for the campaign.
The news agency noted his comment that the press in Portugal is reporting that the cost of the poster campaign is being met with 4,000 € from each family.
Juan José Cortés said after the meeting with Chaves, ‘the President has understood the pain we are suffering, and this type of meeting helps us to at least feel we have the support of the administration.

Re: The McCanns double standards
The McCanns saw it as a golden opportunity to kick start their ambition to become Ambassadors for lost children. That was still the plan in those early days imo.
But I expect that as soon as this poor child turned up dead, it was less useful to them so we never hear about this case at all, just about teenage sex slaves who've turned up again.
CM's remark is typical of the mood of that time: the McCanns were holy cows - so it was 'shameful' that the parents of Mari-Luz dared to complain.
You really can't make it up - who do they think they are?

The McCanns think they can dictate what they like, it really is incredible that they have had their own way for so long with not one investigative Journalist in sight that they have become the untouchables. Did Desmond pay out over £1 million in libel damages that he did not immediately retaliate
by trying to find out just why the McCanns were receiving so much help from the Goivernment?

I think it was Clarrie's comment that was truly shameful. He and the McCanns behaved as though other parents should have been honoured by what they did with their children's photos. It was shameful of the McCanns to suggest that Mari's parents were ungrateful by suggesting they had wanted a choice in the matter.

hasn't that been their attitude all along AnnaEsse? "It's not our fault that Madeleine was abducted and anyone who criticises us will be sued" is their
modus operendi.

Absolutely, Panda. Someone else's responsibility to make sure their children were safe and someone else's responsibility to search for the one that got lost. (If she got lost at all!)
ETA: Why should the parents be the ones driving the search, Gerry asked. Well, that's a question being asked by thousands of parents who haven't had millions in government money thrown at them.

Poor Gerry, wondering about this, for all of this time. Has nobody explained to him to that perhaps had his wife answered the questions put to her and had they not decided to flee Portugal and instead stay and help the police with their enquiries the investigation might still well be going on, indeed it more than likely would have been solved by now and the perpetrators of this terrible crime would be behind bars.
How awful for him to be spending millions on all of those advisors and to be left wondering something as basic as this. They should have explained this to you Gerry, sue them

Yes, and they should have pointed out a few examples: Kerry Needham, Gerry, she had to leave the Greek island when she could no longer afford to eat. That's the kind of thing that happens when a parent is left to drive the search without millions in public donations and millions in taxpayers' money from the government.
Re: The McCanns double standards
For 5 years the McCanns have conned the Public and no Press Reporter has been able , or willing to prove it . Or we can hope is that Amaral wins the
case, hopefully I will still be alive then.
