Re: EVER SEEN ANY DAFT OFFERS?
I once got a sapphire ring from Gems TV for £9. It was a rare peach-coloured Padparascha sapphire and it was showing up on the telly for £99. I was looking at the website at the same time and the price had come up on the website for £9, so I bought it quickly! It is a very nice ring and a sapphire is my birthstone, but I am not keen on the blue ones, so I wear this wee ring quite a lot and I was very pleased with my sneeky bargain!

Tesco are so uncompetitive compared to other supermarkets around, you wonder how they will survive. I like Ambrosia Custard, in Iceland it's 30p, the Co-op 67p and Tesco 2 for £1.50.!!! they have a number of items daily in the freezer section , usually meat where the sell by date has expired, they knock about 30p off an item priced at £3.00. Seems as though they are out of touch with the shoppers.

I think they are out of touch, Panda. If I can't get one of the basics I need at a supermarket, I'll do all my shopping at a store where I can. I buy organic milk, which is 2 x 4 pints at Sainsbury's and Asda for £3, but no offer at Tesco. You'd think they'd realise that offering savings on basics would bring more people to the stores, who would then do most of their shopping there.
Re: EVER SEEN ANY DAFT OFFERS?
I shop mostly at Iceland , much cheaper and if you spend £25 or more, they deliver free. I buy my Fruit and Veg from a greengrocer , but my Papers and TVTimes, also their Apple or Rhubarb pies from the Bakery.AnnaEsse wrote:Panda wrote:AnnaEsse wrote:At Tesco, 400g Hellman's mayo 99p, but 800g £3.59!

I kept my finger too long on the filter key , didn't know how to rectify it so so shut down.

Re: EVER SEEN ANY DAFT OFFERS?
I think it unlikely that any of the big 'reputable' supermarkets will be selling produce past their expiry dates as you can report them to trading standards and they will get into trouble i would have thought but then what do i know !

I went to buy one of the big jars, but luckily spotter the price of the small jar and picked up 2 of those. Tesco is the worst culprit for this I think and also for offers not being there at the checkout. The number of times I've queued at Customer Services and the staff member has gone off to check!

Re: EVER SEEN ANY DAFT OFFERS?
In my local Waitrose a box of 12x300ml 'Buds' now on offer for 10 quid.2doors down is Tesco express now selling a box of 18x300ml 'Buds' for 10 quid.So i can get 6 extra bottles of Bud free !
I thought there was some drive to make booze more expensive to stop the kids on the street getting pissed !
I dont know how they can make 18 glass bottles, fill them with beer, package them up and deliver them for 10 quid and still make a profit. Not that i'm complaining as i now have enough for the next few weekend barbies and the fathers day do next week.Mind you the box's are bloody heavy.

Re: EVER SEEN ANY DAFT OFFERS?
It's 'how much off that product they sell' for the £10.....they will obviously sell MORE at that price than they did at a higher price ...it quantity at the end off the day.
I worked in a supermarket and a product on a 'promotional' price sold DOUBLE than what it did at it's normal price.......that's how the supermarkets make up for the price difference ....they don't lose money I can assure you...in the summer there turnover is double or even treble and at Christmas it's the same.

Re: EVER SEEN ANY DAFT OFFERS?
Tesco checkouts are notoriously bad for not recognising offers and the staff are not much better! At self checkout today tried entering my coupon for 45p off 4 pint bottle of organic milk. The checkout wouldn't accept it. Called a staff member who looked at the coupon and said my coupon was for a 2.27 litre bottle and I had a 4 pint one! I pointed out the obvious to him!

Funny you should mention that as i stopped on my way to work on Friday at our Tesco express to buy a sandwich as we had no bread at home so i thought i'd treat myself to a blt and a bag of crisps and when i gave them to the girl on the checkout She did tell me there was a meal deal and i could have a bar of chocolate with all that for 3 quid so that was nice of her as i wouldn't have known, they are always very helpful in there and i've never seen 'Buds' so cheap.
I guess the quality of service does vary, woman in Waitrose short changed me the other day,not sure if it was deliberate or if she just couldn't add up.
