A white van was seen parked near the McCanns' holiday apartment, so anyone who had a white van and was in or travelling through the Algarve at the time is a suspect. Hewlett was known to have been within an hour's drive of Praia da Luz, a known paedo, so he's a suspect. Peter Verran had a white van, which he didn't tell anyone had been stolen, so he's kind of a suspect. It must have been "white van man" whether he looks like any of the previous suspects or not, or matches any of Jane Tanner's descriptions.

I'm sure there were others who were in Portugal with white vans and I think the Mail really should track them all down. I know a man who told me he was travelling through Spain in a white van, doing gigs with his band. I think he should be investigated!

I was just thinking the same thing, the press seems to have promoted them this morning but didn't they have their own private detectives in 2007, you'd wonder why the questions weren't asked then.

This is another overhauled story.

When does the trial start? There has to be a reason for all this dross in the Fail this weekend.

I laughed at this because it is ridiculous. how many more headlines with other named suspects are there going to be. and who is feeding this to the Mail. oh and the McCs would like to speak to him. ill bet they will. Think they can do better that the SY and the PJ. She who refused to answer so many questions is wanting to speak to this guy. speak to the police and only the police, and tell them what you know or saw. jimo. is that what the McCs want to know?

Iris, I don't think that's correct. According to Pamalam's site, this photo was one of a series from The Sun on 30th April 2008.

If the stories in the Mail, Sun etc truly represent the "new leads" being put forward by SY it is little wonder that the Portugese are dismissive. They are unlikely to have any weight in the libel trial as all seem pretty tenuous as "evidence" of an abduction or an abductor. In reality they are little evidence of anything.

I thought that photo of GM came from the documentary where they interview him at work - he`s in his scrubs.
I maybe wrong. I`d look it up but I can`t remember what documentary it was.
