Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson has broken her silence since her high profile split with her now ex-husband Charles Saatchi, to communicate with her Twitter followers.

The TV cook has maintained radio silence to her more than 400,000 followers since photos emerged of her former husband holding her by the neck, which then saw him announcing his intention to divorce her in a national newspaper.

But now the return of another cookery show, the Great British Bake Off, to television screens has inspired Miss Lawson to return to Twitter.

On Tuesday night she posted a picture of a cake and wrote: “Yum: settling down to The Great British Bake Off with a slice of this blackcurrant Victoria sponge #GBBO”

Miss Lawson ended her 10-year marriage to the art collector in a 70 second hearing at the High Court on the grounds of his ‘unreasonable behaviour’ on July 31.

Neither Miss Lawson nor Mr Saatchi nor their legal representatives attended the hearing, at which the only witnesses were 13 journalists.

In a sign that Miss Lawson was returning to her old self, she posted messages about a “radicchio, squash and pomegranate salad” she had for lunch on Wednesday. She had previously not communicated with her thousands of dedicated followers since June 28.

Her silence was in contrast to the actions of her former husband, who made a series of statements to the press in the wake of the incident - including claiming a picture that appeared to show him aggressively tweaking her nose was in fact him wiping snot away, and dismissing the “strangling” incident as a “playful tiff”.

After originally playing down the incident at Scott’s in Mayfair, the 70-year-old later went to a police station to make a statement and accepted a caution for assault.

Miss Lawson, 53, moved out of the family home they shared after the row, and never returned.

Having said that, when Nigella was describing anything on her TV Show, she always talked quite slowly, I thought it was her trying to be seductive...maybe she was high on coke.

Charles Saatchi and Nigella Lawson were accused on Wdnesday of “manipulating” the criminal justice system to enable them to air their grievances against each other in public.


The couple have used the fraud trial of two former aides as a “convenient forum” to throw mud at each other using the courts’ exemption from libel claims, it was alleged.


The claims were made during an unsuccessful attempt by defence barristers to persuade a judge to throw out the case against two former aides accused of defrauding the couple out of £685,000.


Meanwhile, Miss Lawson took to Twitter to thank everyone who has continued to support her, and one of her closest friends described Mr Saatchi as “dangerous” and “a man scorned”.


Miss Lawson, 53, thanked her fans by posting a recipe for “holiday hotcake” on Twitter, describing it as: “The perfect recipe to show thanks for all your support & to those who hashtag #teamNigella.”

Her sister-in-law, Rosa Monckton, tweeted: “A man scorned is much more dangerous than a woman #nigella.”

Miss Lawson is due to be cross-examined under oath about her alleged “daily” use of cocaine after a judge at Isleworth Crown Court in London ruled that the case against Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo should proceed.

The Italian sisters were described as “pawns stuck in the middle” of the couple’s divorce.

Their defence teams argued that the prosecution case had been fatally flawed by an email in which Mr Saatchi suggested that his ex-wife sanctioned their spending when she was “off her head” on drugs. Mr Saatchi was also said to regard his ex-wife as a “habitual criminal” because of her alleged abuse of cocaine, class B and prescription drugs.

Anthony Metzer QC, representing Elisabetta, 41, said: “There has been a manipulation of the court process by the two main witnesses in the trial. It is a convenient forum for Mr Saatchi and Miss Lawson to rehearse disputed matters between them in the courts, where libel is not possible.”

He claimed Mr Saatchi and Miss Lawson could no longer be presented as “witnesses of truth”. But the prosecution said it was “nonsense” to suggest the two aides had been used as “sacrificial lambs to expose Miss Lawson” and her alleged use of cocaine, class B drugs and prescription pills. Judge Robin Johnson lifted reporting restrictions to enable details of the application to be published.

Mr Metzer said Mr Saatchi’s solicitors sent a letter to Miss Lawson’s solicitors on Oct 17 in which he threatened to sue his ex-wife for recovery of the money if she refused to give evidence in the trial.

The letter said Mr Saatchi was “concerned that Miss Lawson gave the defendants permission to use the accounts for personal purposes whilst under the influence of drugs and/or that Miss Lawson has no credible recollection of events as a result of drug abuse

If Nigella was paying these girls to keep her drug addiction secret, why would she use the Corporate Card which both used? I assume she would have had her own Credit Card and could have paid for the flights etc using that. I think the Barrister is right, they are both making Capital from this case and we havn't any idea so far just what these Women are guilty of.

Nigella is giving evidence and says Satchi was trying to destroy her. Apparently there was more than one Company Credit Card which was used by Nigella and Saatchi , the girls were allowed to use them shopping for Groceries etc and Nigella agreed she paid for Dental Treatment totalling £7,000 for one of the girls who had been with her for a long time and had been her rock when here first Husband died.

The Press from around the World are there and it looks as though Nigella will not have a programme in the US. Saatchi says he regretted saying Nigella was a drug ddict.

Nigella was asked directly whether she had taken drugs, admitted she had but it was at the time her first Husband was terminally ill with Cancer and he was using cocaine as a pain killer. Nigella started using it to cope with her Husbands death, says she is not using it now.

Nigella Lawson has told Isleworth Crown Court that she has taken cocaine twice in her life but added that the claim she was a "drug addict or habitual" user of the drug is "absolutely ridiculous".

The TV cook said she took cocaine with her late husband John Diamond when he found out he had terminal cancer, and in July 2010 when she was being "subjected to intimate terrorism by Saatchi".

She said: "I have never been a drug addict. I've never been a habitual user.

"There are two times in my life when I have used cocaine."

Lawson, 53, went on to say the first was when her late husband Diamond found out his cancer was terminal, and she had it with him on six occasions.

She said she had responsibility for looking after him and the family and earning a living.

Lawson said she spoke to a doctor at the time.

Speaking about the second time in her life, she said it was when a friend gave the drug to her.

"There was another time I took cocaine. In July 2010 I was having a very very difficult time.

"I felt subjected to intimate terrorism by Mr Saatchi," she said.

Adding that she felt "isolated and in fear of...just unhappy".

"A friend of mine offered me some cocaine. I took it," she said.

Lawson said it "completely spooked" her.

She said: "The idea that I am a drug addict or habitual user of cocaine is absolutely ridiculous."

Lawson said this was her evidence under oath.

Lawson is a witness in a trial which centres on two Italian sisters Elisabetta, sometimes referred to as Lisa, and Francesca Grillo.

It is alleged they committed fraud by abusing their positions as her PAs by using a company credit card for personal gain.

Jurors have heard they are accused of using credit cards loaned to them by the TV cook and her ex-husband Saatchi to spend more than £685,000 on themselves.

Nigella was determined and dignified as you would expect her to be.Compare that to the grubby mud slinging from the sad old wife abuser who now sides with a pair of common thieves.

If you are dignified and honest you will always hold the high ground and Nigella can do that with little effort.

I'm not so sure Nigella is the goodytwo shoes Lioned. Apparently she did not want to appear as a Witneess in this Trial , but really had no option. It's hard to believe that she only took cocain to cope with her Husband's terminal cancer, how would Saatchi have known.? Also, she paid £7,000 from the Company Credit Card for Dental treatment for one of the girls she regarded "as my rock", this Woman is a hard headed Businesswoman !!! It is hard to understand that £678,000 the girls supposedly spent without permission wasn't queried by the Auditors.

I think that Lioned is still hoping that Nigella will come and move into his household!

Yeah, I think Lioned is in love with her,  Nigella stayed with Saatchi for 10 years so he couldn't have been such a Brute...she has been self supporting for several years . I think the Italian Women's testimony will be very interesting.

It's not always easy for women to leave bad relationships.

We can't speculate though as to what might have been going on here.

He must have some charm, Nigella is a sophisticated mature woman not the sort you'd expect to be swept off her feet by a woman beating bully..

the problem is, this Trial is becoming a farce, the Judge must take control and concentrate on the case.

I agree with malena, Nigella could have left Saatchi any time , she wasn't dependent on him for anything, except using his Company Credit Cards instead of her own.

Whether she was taking drugs is her business.

Hear hear kitti! It wouldn't surprise me if at least a few of the journalists covering their front pages with Nigella's alleged drug habits also snorted the "nose candy." So, Nigella has used cocaine? So what? I'd never touch the stuff, but if others choose to, in my opinion, that's their business.
