Madeleine McCann: British police denied access to vital DNA clues
7 Jul 2013 00:01
Scotland Yard officers believe samples from clothing, windows, bed linen and furniture at her family’s holiday apartment could still hold DNA traces
British police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are being denied access to vital evidence by Portuguese authorities.
Scotland Yard officers believe samples from clothing, windows, bed linen and furniture at her family’s holiday apartment could still hold DNA traces.
But Portuguese officials refuse to hand over the evidence gathered after three-year-old Madeleine vanished in the Algarve in 2007.
The deadlock has prevented British officers from ruling out potential suspects and following up nearly 4,000 leads generated after detectives sifted 30,000 documents.
They believe access to the evidence would let them narrow down their list of 38 suspects, including 12 Britons.
Crown Prosecution Service lawyers are being forced to submit a formal request for the evidence. London’s chief Crown prosecutor Alison Saunders and her deputy Jenny Hopkins went to Portugal last month in connection with the Met’s review of the case.
A source said: “The lawyers were sent to begin negotiations to get access to evidence that police believe is very important and is in storage over there.
"The Metropolitan Police force have now asked the Crown Prosecution Service to apply for international letters of request.
“The fear is the Portuguese were so inept in the early stages that much of the DNA may be lost. But we hope that there will still be traces on some of the items.” The Met this week issued an upbeat announcement of “genuinely new” leads and suggested arrests could be made in weeks.
Officers say they are working on the theory that Madeleine, who would now be 10, is alive.
But Portugal’s top lawyer has poured scorn on the Yard’s investigation insisting it has no right to pursue inquiries into Madeleine’s abduction from the Praia da Luz flat.
Yard detectives have also flown to Switzerland to probe the movements of killer Urs Hans von Aesch, who committed suicide after abusing five-year-old Ylenia Lenhard shortly after Madeleine disappeared. She bore a striking resemblance to blonde Madeleine.
Von Aesche, who had been living in Spain, was initially ignored by police in the Algarve who were working on the false theory that Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry played a part in her disappearance.

And who gives the direct quote for this DNA story?
Wait for it ...
Not a Met source
Not a CPS source
Not a Portuguese source
No, just A Source.
Is it the same Mr A Source who demanded that the Mirror's Madeleine forum be closed down many moons ago?
The Mirror willingly bent over for him and complied.

Re: British police denied access to vital DNA clues
Yep - FFS - on SkyNews a minute ago - Gillian Joseph stated AGAIN that the British are working with the PJ - BUT they can only interview "suspects" with the permission of the PJ - WHAT the EFF is going on?? - we are repeatedly hearing " the PJ are liasing with the British and vice versa BUT the Attorney General in Portugal denies this!
Something is up! OR we are really being taken the piss of.

Yep. Why risk what they have left..and done somewhere else. I wouldn't, I know that much. I wouldn't trust the Met with anything.duncanmac wrote:the last time DNA evidence was handed over to the English police, they destroyed it

I don't know Karen but I'd loved to think they are all working together and getting everyone totally confused on purpose - including, hopefully the McCanns (and Mr. Egg Man of course). Well I can dream......

I cannot for the life of me believe that the Yard expect US all to believe this drivel - they know the info and facts of the Official Police Files are available on-line, yet SY continue to try and pull the wool over our eyes.

Karen, that is why I cannot see how they can construct a whitewash. The evidence in the PJ files will always be there, how will they cover off the dogs, the inconsistent stories etc......

Mr Egg Man's brain will be positively scrambled, he'll think the entire episode is all one big yolk... (Sorry keepingmum, I couldn't resist it)..

Exactly! - which leads me back to believe in the first rule of being a copper " never name the suspects" - the ONLY explanation I could give if it is indeed a whitewash is pedophilia of the highest order in government - there cannot be any other explanation if indeed its a COVER UP!
How can the Yard say they have 38suspects - surely the "suspects" would leg it - the same way Lord and Lady McCann of Rothley Towers legged it back to the UK - hence Mr Smith's recollection of seeing Gerry??

Re: British police denied access to vital DNA clues
When Scotland Yard, publicly announced that the McCanns and their friends were not persons of interest to them, they dismissed the report of Chief Inspector de Almeida.
http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/TAVARES_ALMEIDA.htm
Scotland Yard, dismissed the findings of Eddie and Keela.
http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/EDDIE-KEELA.htm
Scotland Yard have also implied publicly, that the PJ did not investigate the case properly, so in my eyes the only reason why the 'Yard' want the DNA evidence, is so they can dismiss it again. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Scotland Yard have an agenda to exonerate the McCanns and their mates.
Scotland Yard know, that the evidence in the files against the McCanns and their mates is all true, but they are forced to dismiss the evidence, because they know there will be a huge scandal, against certain members of the previous Portuguese and British Government, who made sure there was no case prepared against the McCanns.
Now we have David Cameron bending over backwards, to help the McCanns, while turning his back on Ben Needham's mother. If Scotland Yard did follow the letter of the law and bring the McCanns to justice, all the help given by these Governments, would be revealed and it wouldn't make pleasant reading.
However judging by statements made by Scotland Yard and Cameron, this is hardly likely to happen. The only people who will be brought to justice, for this crime, are people who have been convicted of sex crimes, who were in PDL at the time Madeleine disappeared and cannot prove where they were on the night Madeleine disappeared. In my humble opinion.

Kathybelle, I think we have to live in hope that something comes out of the GA trial that means the whitewash cannot happen. If the trial does not go ahead, I fear your theory may actual be right.

Re: British police denied access to vital DNA clues
Crown Prosecution Service lawyers are being forced to submit a formal request for the evidence.
And why shouldn't they? It's still a Portuguese investigation. The PJ asked for certain information from the UK authorities: medical records; financial records. But these were denied. The PJ also had to submit formal requests for the rogatory interviews and the British police took their time to get those organised and then allowed the witnesses not only to read their own previous statements, but each others'. The Portuguese have been vilified in the UK press and the principle players refused to co-operate, so if the Brits want the evidence, they can ask properly, though I am dubious about how they would handle the items.

UUM, what about Madeleine's bedroom, supposedly intact, there must be lots of books and toys with her DNA available. I never understood why Gerry, who would know the importance of DNA ,took a Pillowcase, which could have come from the twins Bedroom. why only one article anyway.?
All i hope is the Trial is not postponed while all this is ongoing. If I were the Portugese Government I would demand and early trial, no excuses.

Why only one article?
Could be because the Mirror was the only rag stupid enough and submissive enough to print this sh*tty quote from Mr Anonymous Source and then build a few pointless column inches around it.

Kathybelle I agree with you completely on all points. In my view there is only one reason why all these top dogs want everything covered up completely and I think we all know what that reason would be. I cannot spell it out on here!!

No doubt that the reason they want access to the evidence the PJ have is so that they can put on a few more layers of whitewash to discredit it. For whatever reason the Mccanns and pals MUST be made to look completely innocent.

If it's true that the Portuguese were denied certain information, then they should absolutely not comply with handing anything over until their previous demands are met with in full.

ofgs there isn't going to be dna from anyone. ffcs G McC had to go home to Rothley to get his daughters dna because there wasn't any in the apartment. And no I would definitely not give the Met or anyone else samples they'll get lost or destroyed like the first lot. if anyone thinks im randomly dissing the British police, im not its just in this case, I would trust no one, regardless of their best intentions or impartiality.

Panda, I believe the DNA from the pillowcase was found to be that of a female child of Kate and Gerry who was not Amelie, therefore assumed to be Madeleine's.
