British police return to Algarve in Madeleine case
Updated: 26-Jul-2013
An elite squad of British detectives is due to visit Praia da Luz this month to investigate new links in the Madeleine McCann case.
The officers, from Scotland Yard in the UK, plan to interrogate witnesses, possible suspects, make house searches where necessary and even implement the power of arrest should they obtain permission from the Portuguese authorities.
The new move has come about after the head of the investigation in Scotland Yard linked with Portuguese lawyers in order to clarify the most efficient way of sifting new evidence to solve the mystery of her disappearance, and whether the Portuguese police would be willing to collaborate in the case.
British police announced two weeks ago that 38 people of interest had been identified. The individuals believed to be connected with the case are living in five different European countries, but the majority are British citizens who have been resident in the Algarve for a number of years.
British police have already been in the Algarve 16 times since 2008 when the case was placed on the files by the Portuguese police, who were criticised in the UK press for the way they handled the investigation.
So far, the Madeleine case, named “Operation Grange” has cost €5.3 million.
After the Portuguese closed the file through lack of evidence in 2008, the British Government ordered the case to be re-opened as a result of new leads and theories that came to light.
Scotland Yard chief inspector Andy Redwood, who is heading the inquiry, said: “We believe that she can still be alive.”
END
Strange how a few weeks ago DC Deadwood was also stating "or sadly Madeleine is dead" so what is it???

Wasn't there supposed to be arrests within days according to last weeks reports. It's all non news. I was just wondering what would be the next real news. It's anybody's guess.

Why does it say "Early Test To Beat Arthritis" above Maddie's picture?
Are they planning on her being a geriatric before they finally get there?

After six years of "fresh hope", that description is more than a little stale.

From what I can see they are no further forward now than they were six years ago. Nowhere near finding Madeleine and nowhere near bringing those responsible to justice. I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Daily Express - FRONT page -UPDATE: Algarve Resident
A programme called 'Catching a Killer Crocodile Tears' was on Channel 4 tonight. I didn't watch the programme, but the gist of it was about killers like Mick Philpott, who shed tears in front of the media and the police, in a bid to make the police believe they were not involved in the deaths of the victims.
I know the McCanns haven't shed many tears in front of the media, but they have shed some. They've also pleaded with the so called abductor, to release Madeleine, which is something people who've either killed a child, or played a part in a child's disappearance often do.
If any of the review/investigation team from Scotland Yard, were watching this programme, I really don't know how they can say truthfully, that the McCanns aren't people of interest to them. The more they say this, they more they are proving that without a shadow of a doubt, they are corrupt. Apart from anything else, the McCanns should be persons of interest to Scotland Yard, if only for the fact that they say they were not with Madeleine, when she disappeared.

Also people of interest and important witnesses are the last person to see the missing person alive. And also in the crimewatch programme a girl had been murdered by her brother. And the brother answered no comment to all police questions. And the police said their suspicions were aroused immediately as why wouldn't a witness answer police questions.

Hi Mary
Scotland Yard, should be interested in Kate McCann, if only for the fact that she refused to answer 48 questions, regarding Madeleine's disappearance. She still refused to answer the questions, after she was told that by not answering them, she was hindering the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance.
However Scotland Yard know full well that both the McCanns should be of interest to them, because they only have the McCanns word, that Madeleine was taken. As well as the McCanns admission to the PJ and the media, that they never looked for Madeleine. There are many other reasons why the McCanns should be of interest to Scotland Yard.

Andy Redwood and his team have bent over backwards to avoid investigating Kate and Gerry McCann and their dodgy version of events, made all the more suspicious by Jane Tanner's absurd alibi for Gerry, and the deeply damning CSI blood and cadaver dog alerts.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see the dark agenda of Operation Grange.

A link to the programme that Kathybelle mentioned.
For those who watched programmes when the people involved were convicted, there is little that's new here.
I'm adding a link to a clip about the Australian child, Kiesha Abrahams, who "disappeared from her bedroom".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_p1AEOwlRg
Some very unconvincing wailing from her mother which stopped when the camera moved off her.
She and her partner have recently been convicted of Kiesha's murder.

Just to confirm that the "Real Crime" programme in the above link is not the same one as was on Channel 4 yesterday. It was first broadcast in 2002 and includes the case of Billie Jo Jenkins whose foster father was at the time still in prison for her murder but has since been cleared.
Certainly the concept of people appealing for help - who later turned out to be responsible - is nothing new.

Re: Daily Express - FRONT page -UPDATE: Algarve Resident
Wonder if he'll pop into PDL and try to lift those pesky shutters on apartment 5A to see how easily and QUIETLY they can be lifted from outside as Gerry said?
Leaving no finger prints of course!
He and Sam and one of their 'minders' aka 'nasty man' and his daughter could do a mini re-constuction of the 'abduction'
Only to PROVE it could have happened, you understand!
And to PROVE that the £5million he has ordered to be spent wasn't WASTED on a 'fairytale abduction story' that he has only been TOLD of by his friends, the McCanns, that Madeleine WAS 'abducted' even though they NOW say they DON'T KNOW what happened to her!
It's a wonder there was anywhere for the Cams to stay, what with 20,000 SY detectives and 1000 CPS staff hogging all the accomodations!
Hope the Camerons booked up a Tapas restaurant, in advance, for EVERY night!
Even then, they couldn't be sure they'd get in!

Perhaps Kate and Gerry will be popping over to Portugal then to spend some quality time with the Camerons, they might even take the twins and volunteer them for baby sitting duty whilst the adults go for some "me time".

The twins are 8 now, so well old enough to babysit.

You could be right. They might be old enough to follow their parents' example and b*ggar off to have some "me time."
Re: Daily Express - FRONT page -UPDATE: Algarve Resident
This is a video of the reaction of neighbours when Keisha's Parents were charged with her murder.......could you imagine the reaction if the Mccanns were ever charged with concealing Madeleine's body after she had died from an accident in 5a?
