Daily Express Report 26th August
Madeleine McCann police to start interviews
DETECTIVES in Portugal have been recruited to help Scotland Yard quiz suspects and witnesses as the hunt for Madeleine McCann gained pace yesterday.

The Portuguese halted their inquiry in 2008. Madeleine would now be 10
The Algarve-based officers have already been handed a list of more than 30 people’s names by British police who they want to interview over Madeleine’s disappearance in May 2007.
It is thought none of the Portuguese team in the original inquiry have been chosen for the new probe.
The “persons of interest” are expected to include a taxi driver who claims he may have picked up Madeleine the night after she vanished.
Driver Antonio Castela, 73, said he took three men, a woman and a child in pink pyjamas who resembled the missing youngster from close to the Spanish border to a hotel near Faro. He gave a statement to the Policia Judiciaria but was never questioned afterwards.
Just weeks after the Metropolitan Police announced it was moving from review stage of the case to a full-blown criminal investigation, authorities in Portugal are thought to have chosen a team of officers from the Policia Judiciaria’s Faro-based southern division to aid Scotland Yard.
British detectives hope to be allowed to conduct interviews, although Portuguese law chiefs have already made it clear they will have to be accompanied by public prosecutors at all times if they are given permission.
But the formation of the Portuguese police team will be seen as a major step forward by both the British authorities and officers conducting the new investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.
Home Secretary Theresa May sent an official request for assistance last month to the Portuguese Attorney General’s office.
The document containing the request is thought to have included the names of 38 “people of interest” across Europe identified by a Home Office-funded Met review team as well as a petition to set up headquarters in Portugal and allow British police to work alongside local officers on the ground.
While declining to give a “running commentary” on the new inquiry, Kate and Gerry McCann have stressed they have “absolute faith” in the Met’s efforts. Announcing the launch of the new investigation, the leader of Operation Grange, the hunt for Madeleine, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said he continued to believe she may still be alive.
He said: “It is a positive step in our hunt for Madeleine that our understanding of the evidence has enabled us to shift from review to investigation. We continue to believe there is a possibility that Madeleine is alive.”
Kate and Gerry McCann have ‘absolute faith’ in the investigation by the Met Police
We continue to believe Madeleine could be alive
Det Chief Insp Redwood also revealed that of the “persons of interest”, 12 were British nationals. Madeleine – who would now be 10 years old – went missing from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal’s Algarve on May 3 2007 as her parents dined at a nearby tapas restaurant with friends.
Neither Kate or Gerry, both 45, nor the McCanns’ friends who were having dinner with them that night are among the 38 people identified, police said. None of the 38 is known to the McCanns. The 12 British “persons of interest” were in Portugal at the time Madeleine vanished, and are currently thought to be in Portugal or the UK. The remainder are believed to be in these countries or three other unnamed European nations.
So far the Met Police team has gathered 30,500 documents from its review of the case. Several witnesses, believed to be British holidaymakers, have already been re-interviewed in the UK as part of Operation Grange.
The co-operation of the Portuguese authorities – who shelved their own inquiry into Madeleine’s disappearance in 2008 – is seen as vital for the new inquiry’s success.

Kate and Gerry McCann have had 'absolute faith' in quite a few very dodgy detectives, so they would have us believe. Thousands of pounds worth of money given in donations has been squandered on these wonderful detectives. Now it's millions of pounds of taxpayers money being spent on this oh so special couple. What happened to the "we'll sell our house and everything we have"? Far from spending one penny of their own money they have made themselves very wealthy at the expense of schoolchildren, pensioners and kind hearted people. They should be made to sign over every single penny left in the 'fund' (for fund read company) to help pay for this latest Micky Mouse scheme. Of course that will never happen, the McCanns and family have done very well over the years living the good life at the expense of others and I still find it beyond belief that the powers that be never question their ever changing stories, the downright lies they have told, the neglect issue or anything else. They just carry on treating the McCanns as victims, when it was poor little Madeleine who was the victim of their selfishness.

Quite. They had absolute faith in the 'detectives' that would have her home for Christmas. They thought it was safe to leave three children at home unattended. Powers of judgement??????

Re: Daily Express Report 26th August
Thoughts following on from from the Daily Express article:
"Neither Kate or Gerry, both 45, nor the McCanns’ friends who were having dinner with them that night are among the 38 people identified, police said. None of the 38 is known to the McCanns. The 12 British “persons of interest” were in Portugal at the time Madeleine vanished, and are currently thought to be in Portugal or the UK. (!) So... not KM or GM, not any of their Tapas Friends (we had been told that already) now we learn that none of the 38 are even 'known' to the McCanns. Are they people 'known' to the police, then? 'Known' is usually police-speak for having previous criminal convictions or cautions.
What this reminds me of is the old fashioned 'stranger danger' cry which had to be so carefully corrected by child protection campaigners like Michelle Elliott when doing fun but serious child protection sessions with primary school children. A lot of what the Met are giving out seems to be at the primary school level of understanding!
Similarly, the 'abductors' are said to be very different from 'us': swarthy men, men with long greasy hair, spotty men, ugly men etc... People from whom children need protection are, on the contrary, usually normal looking people, seemingly regular guys, mostly male, but could be of either sex, people you would not suspect, people most usually known to the family, if not part of it. True, I know absolutely nothing about child trafficking, in the extremely unlikely event this disappearance turns out to be caused by that, but I do know a bit about more usual child protection issues.
NONE of us knows what happened to MBM. I wonder if both the PJ AND SY do already. Do they know where her body is? (or of course, where she is being hidden in the unlikley event she is alive). Is this really the end game? Will it end with a genuine solution to the mystery, or will we get a cop out, what some call a whitewash, with SY giving up and saying 'abduction by persons unknown'. If so, they had better have very good evidence for that (well nigh impossible, as I don't think there is any) else why have they been allowed to spend all that taxpayers money without even considering 'the elephant in the room'.

I think it will be a total and utter whitewash, and I don't think the libel trial will happen, there has been to much political interference.

i agree fred - too many backers pms and all will end up with egg on their faces - i have always lived in hope though - nearest we can get for justice for madeleine is to show what the mcanns and friends got upto on their jollys - we have already had snippets of madeleine crying for over a hr etc etc - shame them a bit and thats all that will happen - the circus got bigger and bigger - how many people have been afforded so much protection ? even the royal family get slated in the press - i have always lived in hope that the reason the press do not let rip is because it would damage a future trial - but i dont think a trial will ever happenfred wrote:I think it will be a total and utter whitewash, and I don't think the libel trial will happen, there has been to much political interference.

Re: Daily Express Report 26th August
I wouldn't be so sure about that. There's a different government now, the protection has gone and Cameron will have to have something to show for all the public money that's been spent. And so will the Portuguese, who are probably well pissed off with the whole thing and might not be so willing to play ball now.

Those mccann detectives have have done for the money exactly what mccanns asked them to do, and that wasn't 'LQOKing for Maddie' Rather 'create sightings', 'create information' 'discredit Amaral' 'support Giprianos lawyer' etc. IMO only of course, and all I can say; job well done.mara thon wrote:quote...Kate and Gerry McCann have ‘absolute faith’ in the investigation by the Met Police....unquote

No, surely not... it's just a coincidence that all that miraculous SY work happen exactly the same time as the libel trial. It's all just pure BS..sorry sorry, I mean; just a pure coincidence.fred wrote:I think it will be a total and utter whitewash, and I don't think the libel trial will happen, there has been to much political interference.

But sure SY will keep up this mccann PR campaign long as needed to get over the nasty libel trial. I have no doubt of anything else. Much as I wish you are right and I'm wrong.

You have to remember you have got to give the SY ELITE some time to 'investigate' after all it's only been TWO years and 4 months they've been 'at it'!
Not counting the bit where they were some of the first people 'on the scene' in May 2007.
Can you imagine how long it would have taken if the case had been handed to just lowly 'woodentops'?
Nope, Bernie's 38 'elites' are the big boys of investigation and are even now trying to produce a second updated poster.
But cynic that i am, what did the Bernie's 38 'elites' actually DO today, or yesterday, to 'find' Madeleine?
Have they been to Devon/Cornwall?
Lots of pasty's there!

Re: Daily Express Report 26th August
If this is a whitewash why didn't SY say at the end of the Review that they found no evidence to suggest the Portugese Police did not do a thorough investigation. Remember, England and Portugal have been allies for many years and the supposed 38 persons of interest is a slap in the face for the Portugese .

Re: Daily Express Report 26th August
Scotland Yard's been busy giving the original investigative team and their conclusions a very wide berth. No in-depth questioning of the dubious parents Kate and Gerry McCann, or dodgy Jane Tanner & Co, and no requests for a reconstruction in order to move forward effectively and efficiently; a moderate request that the gruesome twosome could hardly refuse if made by the British Team in whom they are well pleased! In short, no attempt whatsoever by Operation Grange to be thorough. I remain convinced their agenda is to obliterate all paths that lead to Rothley, and follow the yellow brick road in pursuit of the phantom abductor.

Re: Daily Express Report 26th August
You have to ask the question WHY!!! The Government is prepared to spend probably £7 million when this is all over and nothing new is found WHY.!!
It's not just to help an attractive couple find their daughter , this couple had millions to spend on detectives but chose the least qualified to find missing children, The Detectives they chose had more experience in money laundering and fraud. The Government must know this so WHY is Cameron happy to spend so much of taxpayers money when there are so many unemployed.

I doubt that Cameron gives a toss for the mccanns.
Far more important things to worry about and £7m is not going to add much to the £trillion debt !

well the fundraiser in chief, who loves setting off those lanterns and cosying with the McCs. together with the handsome Redwood, madeleine is either dead or alive, and the rest of the "elite SY" may have a job following the questioning unless they have had intensive Portuguese lessons in the last 2 odd years. well at least it will be some time in the sun.
