Seems #McCann v #Amaral & Others libel trial to go into December. Judge to decide on 27 Nov whether McCanns (plaintiffs) can make statement.

I can't see any sort of verdict before Christmas. It's hard to know why witnesses weren't heard today. I don't think it would surprise me that much if the whole thing was dropped or adjourned indefinitely. It seems very odd indeed. I can't work out what's going on. Still that's nothing new!

I wouldn't have thought it was possible for the case to be dropped unless the McCanns were to withdraw their claim and pay all the costs to date.

There going to pay costs anyway when they lose....or rather the FUND is.

How do you know that? In the UK that would be true, but not so sure in Portugal that is the case.

If t here's any justice Dr A will win - but having been on the receiving end of a imo corrupt lawyer anything could happen. I'll reserve judgement till we know the result. Whatever happens Dr A will still have lost 6+ years of his life fighting for justice for Madeleine. What a shame that her parents couldn't give her the same consideration.

The holiday makers cared more about saving their own skins than telling the truth. I think about this case every single day so how much trauma do they endure? The answer is in their own hands, but will they ever tell the truth about what they know? I hope all the deception was worth it.

The Wheels of Justice seem to grind very slowly in a Portugese Court 1 Witness all day. Now a decision on 27th November regarding the McCanns........

The decision was always going to be on 27 November, why is this news?

When the mccanns lost the appeal against mr amaral re the book, the mccanns had to pay the costs which are being offset against this trial , so when mr amaral wins the mccanns will have TWO sets off costs to pay, if the mccanns win, then mr amaral will have the previous costs taken off the mccanns costs .

Yes, that's my recollection too.

It was originally assumed that the judge's decision was to be announced on Nov 5th (so that they would testify on Nov 27th if allowed).

Gerry McCann has already made the same request. The judge is likely to decide on November 5th.

IIRC, on the 5th Duarte then asked if the decision could be made before the 27th, presumably to give her clients some notice if they were to stand.

But even that doesn't apply anymore ...... the trial is now lurching into December ......

NB - Paracetamol sales at our local chemist are doing rather well, largely thanks to the vagaries and idiosyncracies of the Portuguese legal system ...

  I'd second that , for such a prominent Trial which will probably be reported around the World the Justice system is
hard for anyone to follow and to only interview one person in a day which appears to be the case is odd. Now the Judge has ordered a List of Amaral's earnings from the sale of the Book and video, of course the guy hoped to he was was going to make money, he was unemployed, and wanted the truth told, not the McCann version.

I posted on the mirror mirror thread, the uk justice forum has tweeted that it was Isabelle who asked for the information to be provided, so the request did not originate from the judge.

Thanks mossman,,,,what difference does it make how much he earned??? What if he retaliates and gets his Lawyer to ask the McCanns how much they made on Madeleine's Fund and how much of that money was actually spent on Detectives.?

I think Amaral's lawyers should ask for Enid O'Dowd's analysis of the fund to be entered into evidence.

I DEMAND to know how much of the 'donation' (£38.73p) made to the Madeleine 'fund' raised by a group of handicapped kiddies, specifically given, after tremendous exertions, to be used, so they thought, for 'searching only' for Madeleine, ended up in their spokesman's pocket or paying mortgage repayments on the McCanns house or paid for GM to stay at 5* hotels in Lisbon etc, etc!

When ID answers THAT then, and only then, will she have the moral authority to ask her questions.

trials in the UK takes ages to come to fruition, whether they are civil or criminal and some go on for extremely long periods of times so I don't think this is particularly long. The Judge seems not to be brow beaten by anybody and that it will take the time it needs to take. good on her.

just a question perhaps one of our Portuguese experts can help on this. If either or both of the McCs are given the opportunity to address the court, does Dr G Amaral have the automatic right of rebuttal on anything they may say about him and cause and effect or is this why he has also asked to address the court. Anyone know please?

What a messy case this is turning out to be and I do in part blame the Judge . Amaral is not being charged with earning money, he is being charged with Hindering the search for Madeleine, harming the health of the McCann Family and insinuating that Madeleine .died in 5a.

The Judge should never have agreed with the plaintiff that a fully documented account of the monies paid to Amaral etc, yet again the Trial is suspended. Another mystery about Amaral's Witnesses and surprise that Amaral's Lawyer did not contest the question of earnings , it is not relevant. The McCanns sequestered E1 miillion so they obviously think Amaral earned much more than he stated. A bit like the pot calling the Kettle black, the McCanns have made a fortune out of Madeleine's disappearance.

Thanks Kitti, I would love Amaral to challenge the Fund and see how much the McCanns syphoned off. They really are a pair of
evil b***ers and I hope they get their cummuppence one day.

Like she accused mr amaral off claiming benefit when he wasn't.
