What was Russell doing in Aljezeur on 7 May, just days after Maddie's disappearance

With all the talk of analyzing mobile phone records, I decided to look at the Mobile Phone analysis on this site. Under the analysis of Russell James O'Brien's mobile phone the following is stated:
 
After this return to the antennae of Luz, only at 14:07:44 on 7th does one observe a record outside that locality. That record occurs on the antenna installed in the [parish] of Aljezur, municipal area of Aljezur, district of Faro. The records return to the antennae of Luz at 14:24:00. Curiously, on this day only Russell and Matthew activate other antennae outside Luz. The first activates the antenna referred to before, while the second activates "Budens 1". If on the one hand the movement of Matthew to Budens is acceptable, then the trip of Russell to Aljezur in these first days so soon after the disappearance is somewhat strange, it not being that, once more to the picture of Fiona Payne on 12 July, there exists an error in the data that the operator Optimus remitted to the Police. There is an hypothesis of him having made that journey, there being sufficient time for him to cover the distance that separates Luz from Aljezur (68 km.) at an average [speed] of 130 km/h. Despite there being no other records from the mobile phones of the other members of the group outside the antennae of Luz, there exist gaps in the times [of the records] that make it possible for one of them to have accompanied him. Therefore, accepting that Russell was effectively in the coverage area of that antenna, then on this date the members of the group would already have had access to a motor vehicle.

Not that I am aware of. This is what the mobile phone analysis says about Matt's trip to Budens:

"From that day until 12:06:07 on 7th all the entries are made on the antennae that serve that locality. At that time the record is made on the antenna "Budens" this entry points in the direction of Matthew being in a transition zone between that antenna and the antenna known as "Luz 3", seeing that the time interval between records (12:04:35 - "Luz 3"; 12:06:07 - "Budens"; and 12:06:55 - "Luz 3"), does not permit the physical movement between those two points. The distance that separates the two localities, in a straight line, is about 8 km, while by road it is about 11 m.

Budens was not that far away from Luz (only 8km) and Matt didn't make it that far as evidenced by the short amount of time it took him to get back to the Luz antenna. However, Russell's trip was a good 34 km away, and certainly either Matt or Gerry could have accompanied him, but left their mobile phones in Luz.

The PJ seem to dismiss Matt's little trip to Budens, and are more interested in Russell's trip to Aljezeur as it shows that the group must have had access to a car at this time, and possibly they were claiming that they still did not have a car. What would be the purpose of going to Aljezeur?

When comparing those details with their activities according to the 'pings' in late July, one had to wonder why there were some very 'odd' trips to the West of PdL.

Thursday July 26th Gerry visited Vila do Bispo (7 miles west of PdL) immediately upon returning from Washington (without stopping in PdL) spending 25 minutes around that area (extra to driving time)

Friday July 27th he visited Sagres in the evening (alone?)

Saturday July 28th, Kate went to Faro airport in the morning around 9am until 11.30 approx (according to pings) while Gerry claims 'they' took the children to the beach.

Between approx 11.30am until 2.00pm approx both their phones were turned off.

In Kates diary she claims to have had a dip in the jacuzzi with the twins at 4.20pm

At 4.25pm both Kates phone and Gerry's phone pings in PdL after Gerry switches on his phone.

They both went to Budens/Burgau by 5.30pm - 6.00pm, according to the pings, and were both back in PdL by
Kate at 6.41pm, Gerry at 7.17pm.

Gerry's phone switched off approx 8.30pm - 10.30 pm.

Why did Kate claim, and was so sure their 'jacuzzi dip' was at 4.20pm, just before their phone pings (4.25pm) showed them leave PdL for Budens/Burgau?

Why did they 'suddenly' start visiting this area? (earlier on June 19th approx I believe).

Why did Gerry visit Budens immediately he returned from Washington (before stopping in PdL)

Why did Kate go to the airport when Gerry claims 'they' went to the beach and met a nice Portuguese
