Are you going to also condemn Hamas for targeting Jerusalem, then? A city that is a holy site for Christians, Jews AND MUSLIMS?Panda wrote:http://news.sky.com/story/1310566/israels-pm-to-finish-job-as-troops-boosted

I hope the Israelis DO "finish the job", as you so eloquently put it, and wipe out every last Hamas reptile that infests the face of this planet.

sometimes Panda I feel your posts are so inflammatory. , I am the first to say that people are entitled to their opinion. I also am the first to say it should be tempered. Perhaps that's why you do it you throw out a comment and sees what comes back. Hammas are considered a terrorist group by some countries in the West.

Re: Israel troops boosted to finish the job
You should all be bloody grateful to Israel and the IDF. Because after Hamas have fought to the last woman and child to destroy every Jew in Israel, then every Jew worldwide, who do you think they are going to come for next? We are seeing Hitler and the rise of Fascism all over again, and nobody will care until it is far too late. But that's okay just so long as a few nice buildings do not get destroyed.

Israel has asked the U.S. for more weapons and generously will be supplied with 16,000 bombs....the double standards of the U.S. is indefensible . Israell will not let up until it has killed the population of Gaza so it can then occupy it. If Israel can walk through the Tunnels , why aren't they bombing those , not schools, markets, hospitals , homes etc.......as I say it it a war between David and Goliath , the death toll speaks for itself.

Yes, it proves that Hamas don't give a flying fart about their own people. 160 children were killed digging those bloody tunnels, and before you accuse me of making it up, these are Hamas' own figures.
Let me just remind you of another wee fact here. Israel have nukes. They could have "finished the job" a long time ago if they didn't care about innocent civilians. Gaza could be a parking lot in 30 minutes flat. And you really must be incredibly stupid to even think that Israel would ever want to occupy Gaza ever again. If that had been the case, they wouldn't have given it back. But they did, and this is how they have been repaid.

Panda, there was an expert in International Law on Radio 4 yesterday. He was asked about war crimes. He answered that firing rockets from civilian areas was war crime and that if that happened, then those doing the firing should expect retaliation. Hamas has been firing from civilian areas, storing weapons in houses, schools and hospitals. Their tunnels often run from below mosques and other public buildings. If there is a cease fire, I think the United Nations should go in and make sure every last tunnel into Israel is destroyed.

I can post some videos of a Hamas rockets landing on a beautiful house, if you want to even it out a bit. I can't guarantee the quality though as my friend only has a very small mobile phone.

malena, Hamas said that Israel had poached more of their Land, also, that they had closed the Palestinian trade route . Hamas wanted a discussion on these matters before agreeing to a cease fire, Israel refused and well over 1,000 Palestinians are dead, their homes, schools , even Hospitals have been bombed,, Israel even iignores the UN . Let there be a fair investigation by the UN to determine whether the Palestine/ Israeli
border agreed by Balfour has been breached, has the border stopped Palestinian trade???? That's what I would like to see.

I'm sorry Panda, but I can't find any link to the claim Israel is 'poaching' land from Gaza and it is a well recognised fact Hamas have refused ceasefires when Israel agreed to sit down and talk.
If Hamas persist in siting their rocket batteries in Hospitals, Mosques and Schools then surely they can't be surprised if Israel targets them, can they?
What needs looking at is not whether the border has been breached with regard to trade, but have the unknown number of tunnels dug by Hamas and unwarranted bombardment by mortar and rocket batteries into Israel threatened the peace of the region.

Re: Israel troops boosted to finish the job
Hamas are terrorists. Period. Does that fact mean I have to support a military action in which a very large percentage of victims are civilians? As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't. It's my opinion and I am entitled to it. The argument that there is no alternative because terrorists have to be wiped out does't stick with me because if that's the thinking than the only solution is to nuke the place down and guarantee no one survives especially because the children who now see their brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers die cut into pieces have a strong possibility of becoming terrorists themselves. That's the tragedy of violence.

I haven't read the link as I prefer to see a brief summary of what it contains first. We can all go to sky news and read these articles and I find posting the link without any further comment is a bit pointless. As it happens Hamas breached the ceasefire early this morning.

Re: Israel troops boosted to finish the job
Hamas: We are Not Terrorists; We Just Want to Destroy Israel
by Khaled Abu Toameh
March 18, 2013 at 5:00 am
http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/3629/hamas-terrorists
Hamas wants be dropped from the U.S. State Department list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations not because it has changed, but because it feels that the world has changed, and that many naïve Westerners are now willing to tolerate its radical ideology and terrorism.
Hamas leaders are working hard these days to have their movement removed from the U.S. State Department list for Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
The Hamas leaders are hoping to persuade a number of European Union countries to support their bid.
Hamas wants to be removed from the list without changing its strategy or charter, which call for jihad [holy war] and which do not recognize Israel's right to exist.
Hamas is also not prepared to dismantle its armed group, Izaddin al-Kassam, as part of its effort to persuade the US and EU to drop it from the list of terrorist groups.
Nor is Hamas prepared to stop smuggling weapons or give up thousands of rockets and mortars that it possesses in various parts of the Gaza Strip.
And of course Hamas is not prepared to renounce violence in the context of its effort to seek legitimacy in the international community.
The Hamas initiative comes at a time when senior officials of the movement, including Khaled Mashaal, continue to talk about their dream of replacing Israel with an Islamic state. In addition, they are continuing to call on Palestinians to abide by the "armed resistance" as the only option for achieving their goal.
Ironically, the Hamas request to be removed from the list of terrorist groups coincides with reports about the Islamist movement's involvement in terror activities in neighboring Egypt.
According to these reports, Hamas was behind the August 2012 killing of 16 Egyptian border guards in Sinai. Hamas has also dispatched thousands of its men to Cairo to protect Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi against his political opponents, the reports revealed.
Although Hamas has denied the reports, there are increased signs that the movement is cooperating with other Islamic fundamentalist groups in Sinai to turn the peninsula into a base for jihadists from different parts of the world. Some of these jihadists are believed to be linked to groups that are affiliated with Al-Qaeda.
Hamas claims that it has won the secret backing of a number of EU governments -- a claim denied by the EU.
The Hamas demand was first raised by the movement's prime minister, Ismail Haniyeh, during a meeting with European supporters in the Gaza Strip last month.
Ghazi Hamad a senior Hamas official in the Gaza Strip, says that his movement is putting pressure on several countries to change their position toward his movement. He believes that there has already been a "positive change" in the minds of Western and Arab societies toward Hamas.
It is not clear what Hamas bases its optimism on. But sources close to Hamas revealed that some Arab leaders, including Egypt's Morsi and Qatar's Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, have promised to work toward convincing the Americans and Europeans to remove Hamas from the list of terrorist organizations.
Both Morsi and al-Thani, according to the sources, have raised the issue with US and EU officials over the past few weeks.
The two Arab leaders have argued that removing Hamas from the lost would actually have a moderating effect on the movement and boost the prospects of peace in the Middle East. They have also claimed -- according to the sources -- that removing Hamas from the list would pave the way for unity between the movement and Fatah.
The Hamas campaign to be removed from the list of terrorist groups also coincides with growing cooperation between the movement and other radical groups in the Gaza Strip, primarily Islamic Jihad.
During the last war in the Gaza Strip, Hamas and Islamic Jihad militiamen formed a joint command to coordinate rocket attacks against Israel. More recently, it was revealed that Fatah's armed wing, Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, also helped Hamas fire rockets at Israel in recent years.
The Americans and most EU countries are opposed to Fatah's efforts to achieve unity with a movement that remains on their list of foreign terrorist organizations.
In private, however, Fatah leaders say they are also opposed to removing Hamas from the list out of fear that such a move would legitimize the movement and pave the way for the creation of a separate state in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas wants to be dropped from the list not because it has changed. Rather, Hamas wants to be removed from the list because it feels that the world has changed, and that many naïve Westerners are now willing to tolerate its radical ideology and terrorism.
Anyone who supports Hamas's bid should also vote in favor of removing Al-Qaeda from the same list.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas#International_designation_of_Hamas
According to this list on Wikipedia, even Jordan and Egypt have them listed as a terrorist group.

Paddy Ashdown, ex Liberal Leader and Soldier was interviewed on T.V. abut the conflict in Gaza. He admits Hamas is a terrorist organisation., but says Israel must learn that only talking will resolve the crisis. He pointed out that Britain had to talk to the IRA many times over many months to reach agreement and that Israel must abide by any ceasefires. He also pointed out that Israel, with all it's sophisticated equipment has bombed 6 UN buiildings .
Hamas is saying they havn't got the missing Soldier and think he must be dead.

So Paddy Ashdown is advocating that Israel should talk with a terrorist organisation that openly states it wants them all dead.
Israel must "abide by ceasfires"? It has been Hamas that has broken every single one up till now. Did he have anything enlightening to say about that?
Or the fact that these UN buildings were stores for Hamas weapons of terror?
If Paddy Ashdown really did say all of these things then he is an uninformed idiot IMO.

It amazes me how supposedly intelligent people can be so blinkered and see only the little bits of information that fit with their personal agenda. Like Gerry McCann, the doctor who was awarded a research grant, finding a sample of one (Zapata) to insist the dogs were unreliable, Ashdown has allowed superficial details from the news to pass through the filter of his prejudice.
