Not a lot tanszi .....especially when Proton have so generously donated a private jet to take him to Prague. The University Hospital where Ashya was being treated have offered to provide the Clinic with any information they need .
Panda, to be perfectly pedantic, there isn't an organisation called Proton. The Proton Therapy Centre is so called because it uses the properties of the proton particle to be directed accurately at cells, to deliver high levels of DNA destroying radiation, while causing less damage to surrounding tissue than conventional radiation therapy. In the centre of an atom is a nucleus and that nucleus has protons and neutrons.
Protons, on the other hand, are energized to specific velocities. These energies determine how deeply in the body protons will deposit their maximum energy. As the protons move through the body, they slow down, causing increased interaction with orbiting electrons.
Maximum interaction with electrons occurs as the protons approach their targeted stopping point. Thus, maximum energy is released within the designated cancer volume. The surrounding healthy cells receive significantly less injury than the cells in the designated volume.
As a result of protons' dose-distribution characteristics, the radiation oncologist can increase the dose to the tumor while reducing the dose to surrounding normal tissues. This allows the dose to be increased beyond that which less-conformal radiation will allow. The overall affects lead to the potential for fewer harmful side effects, more direct impact on the tumor, and increased tumor control."
Both standard x-ray therapy and proton beams work on the principle of selective cell destruction. The major advantage of proton treatment over conventional radiation, however, is that the energy distribution of protons can be directed and deposited in tissue volumes designated by the physicians-in a three-dimensional pattern from each beam used.

I know Proton is the therapy centre AnnaEsse and don't know what you mean because the treatment would be given there I think
Latest news is that the paperwork has been completed and the Family can start to plan on getting to Prague . The Proton Centre is closed until Monday , but a Hospital will receive Ashya when the Family arrive in Prague until Proton can take over . It's probably like a Clinic where Ashya will maybe be an outpatient Whether the private jet reportedly offered to take the family from Britain to Prague is true remains to be seen. Poor little mite , Ashya is going through so much, we can only hope the treatment is successful .

Panda, if the treatment centre was, say, Hammersmith Hospital, then referring to "Hammersmith," is fine because Hammersmith is an area of London. However, since proton is a particle and not the name of a person the centre has been named for or a district, the Proton Therapy Centre may make a statement, but the particle itself probably won't!
And no! Proton is not the therapy centre. Proton is the particle used in the treatment at the therapy centre!
Re: Ashya King
This is the very latest report and it definitely looks like Proton Doctors will treat Ashya.

Proton doctors? They're going to manipulate proton particles? Maybe bombard them with electrons?
Anyway, I've just read on Sky News that doctors at the Proton Therapy Centre are already working on a treatment plan and that as soon as Ashya arrives at the centre , the judge who granted the Ward of Court will have no further responsibility.

What must the Spanish and Proton think of the British when a child's life is at stake.!!!!!
I think Proton might still be a member of this forum, let's PM her and ask her

We can only hope that the proton beam treatment will be of benefit to him. Apart from that the whole sorry mess should never have happened and shows the medical staff at his original hospital in a bad light. The judicial system both in Britain and Spain need an urgent review as well. Of course there must be rules and regulations we all realise that. The powers that be must also remain sufficiently flexible to allow for the occasional "odd one out" so to speak. This may not have done that little boy any harm; it certainly hasn't done him any good.

Re: Ashya King
Latest News.
The family of Ashya are travelling with her to Prague where she will arrive at the Proton Clinic to start treatment asap, Doctors there are concerned that his last treatment was on 24th August.
Facebook has set up a charity for the Family to stay together and the Cancer charity is also doing it's bit.

OOOPS......of course i knew he was a Boy, I must be coming dyslexic chrissie
Good news though, Proton were a bit concerned that all the delay might affect the treatment , there should only be 6 weeks between each chemo therapy dose and Ashya had his in August .
