This is disgraceful , having worked in the NHS I can vouch for the waste in the NHS , there are plenty of ways to save money without targetting
older people.

Considering that over 40s have already been paying for 20 odd years, it does seem a bit prejudiced.

well, it was a good idea had they kept to the original plan. time to ditch it altogether as far as the taxpayer is concerned. fund your own healthcare the exceptions being children under 16, the retired and the handicapped.

I think it was a big mistake to drop prescription charges for starters, Tony Blair's "sure start " program to have NHS Clinic Staff go to single parents homes to teach them how to cook, GP's writing out prescription items that can be bought over the counter , free contraception for boys who used them as balloons , the girls could have a morning after pill if they forgot to take a contraceptive pill the night before. Immigrants who have paid nothing into the system having free treatment , dental care and prescription items.

These are just a few of the reasons the NHS is in such a state.

When they stop giving free medical attention to half the world, I would accept paying more for my medical care. Of course, we probably wouldn't need to without the burden of those who have paid absolutely nothing into the system.

Why is it it's always the People that work hard or pensioners that are getting penalised .


It's not as if after 50 yrs paying in they get anything out off it apart from being left on a trolly for 13 hours before being seen .


Seems the only people that get anything out off the NHS are the Immigrants and people on benefits ....why should WE have to prop up the NHS for THEM?

Can you Imagine if people like me had the option to pay your money Into a private fund or NHS Stamp....the NHS would be a thing off the past by now.


All I get for my money is a 4 hour wait for an ambulance and a 13 hour wait in A & E...what a bargain eh for paying in 45 years!

I sent a request for a repeat prescription to my surgery yesterday by fax. Phoned them this morning to check they had received it and to ask when would it be ready. Receptionist said 'Come and collect it tomorrow.' I asked what sort of time, morning or afternoon and she said she could say, just said to come in tomorrow. Given that I work full time, is she expecting me to take a day off? I will phone in the morning and probably get to work late but hey ho.

I'm going away at the weekend and as it's for asthma, I want to take it with me in case. Grrrrrrrrrrrr

We don't in Wales kitti , it used to be £6.00 , is that for one item or more per prescription.?

chrissie and wjk,........that is a lot of money !!!!! Some Doctors prescribe items that can be purchased over the counter cheaper , but taxpayers already fund the NHS so you are subsidising the immigrants who get their prescriptions free as part of their benefits.

I posted this a long time ago, don't know if you saw it. A friend of mine works for the DHSS and said one day this Pakistni family came in to make a benefit claim. There was Council Tax, Housing Benefit, Unemployment Benefit for the Husband and benefit for three children. the Total came to over £200 A WEEk !!! and the Husband said "oh, you have forgotten my Mother " when my friend asked where she was he said " Oh, she is in Pakistan ,but coming here soon........what can you say

It must have been a very long time ago, because there has been no DHSS for about a decade now. There's also no such place as Czechoslovakia.

It was DHSS in my day, now it is DHS. CZECHOSLOVAKIA IS THE WAY IT IS SPELLED IN MY WORLD ATLAS.

Then you need to get a new atlas.  I'll stop having a go at you when you stop posting spite and lies.  Can't see it ever happening though.

ETA and it's not been the DHS for the past 13 years neither. It's been the DWP since 2001.
