50% OF CHILDREN STARTING SCHOOL AT AGE OF 5CAN'T DO BASICS LIKE TALK PROPERBLY,DRESS PROPERBLY,CAN'T HOLD A PENCIL ETC ETC SO AN ARTICLE IN THE GUARDIAN SAYS.
THINGS DO APPEAR TO BE GOING DOWNHILL EDUCATIONWISE.
I AM SURE THIS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED ON ANOTHER THREAD.

My grandson James was apparently the only one in his class of 5 year-olds when he started school who could get himself ready for PE and dress himself afterwards. Some children don't even know their own full names when they start.

Re: 50% OF SCHOOL STARTERS CAN'T DO BASICS
There are plenty of good parents out there but there are some awful ones too...those who talk constantly round the shops on their mobiles completely ignoring their children. If they do that in shops, what are they like in their homes. I can't imagine them taking the time to sit and teach children the simple basics that help them enormously when they first start school..not forgetting the poor teachers who would also benefit greatly.
I've read stories of teacher having to change nappies for 5 year olds. Lots of nurseries do not accept children who can't take themselves to the toilet so why should infant schools?

No doubt somebody will be along in a moment to tell us that somehow it's all the fault of the teachers.

Whatever it is, it's always someone else's fault. Whatever happened to personal responsibility!

MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE A RULE,LIKE IF YOU CAN GET PREGNANT/OR ARE CAPABLE OF IMPREGNANTING A FEMALE,THEN YOU SHOULD BE CAPABLE OF LOOKING AFTER A CHILD.
SOME PARENTS HAVE NO IDEA.
