Madeleine McCann
A Facebook page set up to help find Madeleine McCann was shut down over the weekend with the administrator explaining that internet trolls were taking a toll on their mental health.
Criticism of Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, is common on the Facebook site, called the Official Find Madeleine Campaign.
The extent of the hateful messages caused the temporary shutdown over the weekend of the page, which has been going since Madeleine went missing from Praia de Luz in Portugal nearly 10 years ago.
The administrator posted: "The trolls and the media encouraging them with false stories are taking a toll on my mental health.
A message on Monday from the administrator, named only as "FM Webmaster", added: "I have turned the page back on for now, but will continue to turn the page off if we receive hateful posts. I need to do this for my own mental health.
"Thank you for keeping the page positive and hopeful."

The page is endorsed by the McCanns and followed by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.
The latest post from the administrator was met with more than 400 comments of support.
Carolyn Duffy, who lives in Australia, said: "There's some real nasty people in this world , thankfully some really nice ones too.
"I pray they find Madeline one day."
Viva Walden, of Milton Keynes, said of the negative posts: "Some of them are completely horrendous, scathing and unfounded accusations.
"It makes you wince when you see them.
"I don't know how it is allowed. Keep up the good work in the hunt for the lovely Maddie and all the best to the McCann's."

Madeleine, who would now be 13, was sleeping in her family's apartment with her younger siblings on May 3, 2007, when she went missing.
Her parents were dining nearby with friends.
After her disappearance the Facebook page was set up.

This week the administrator posted about why the site was set up and explained that none of the trolls' messages were being read by the McCanns.
"In late 2007, I urged Gerry and Kate to have a page setup on Facebook.
"I set up this page and have run it ever since. The only posts that Gerry and Kate see are the ones I send to them.
"They do not use social media."

"I need to do this for my own mental health." Any chance the administrator/webmaster is Kate McCann?

Re: Find Madeleine McCann site shut because of trolls affecting administrator's mental health
I wouldn't be at all surprised if she is.
Lesser mortals would I think be less dramatic and say things like "you're getting on my nerves" when so-called trolls (most of them just wanting honest answers for a change) post on the page.
