From Anorak:
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
JERUSALEM POST (Israel): Is Rose Israel’s Madeleine?
Who’s Rose? Is she a Maddie by another name?
The sad saga of the missing little girl known publicly only as Rose is reminiscent of another recent high-profile mystery. And while a gag order prevents publication on details of the Rose case, it is hard to avoid recalling the case of Britain’s Madeleine McCann.
No mention of Rose. So who is she?
Rose is described as thin and 80 cm. tall, with blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. Neighbors have differing observations of her personality. Some refer to her as sickly in appearance, with poorly developed language skills and a grim expression. They are disturbed by the thought of Rose suffering any harm since disappearing three months ago.
A hot-line. No news. Secrecy. But speculation… lots of it…

So why has these been kept quiet and why the need to compare it to Madeleine?

“The story of a missing four-year-old French girl took a grisly turn today when Israeli police revealed their suspicions that the child had been murdered by her mother and grandfather, who were in a romantic relationship
Rose, the little girl with haunted blue eyes and ashy blonde hair has been called the Israeli Madeleine McCann. Her photographs have filled local newspapers while the details of her family's past have scandalised the Israeli public.
Police said that the girl's grandfather, Ronnie Ron, 45, admitted to delivering a blow to the girl that killed her before stuffing her body in a suitcase and throwing it into a river near his home in the coastal town of Natanya.
Ronnie Ron was living with the girl's mother, 23-year-old Marie Pisam. The two began their relationship while Pisam was still married to Ron's son, Benjamin.
Police called the case one of the most shocking in recent history.
"I have handled many investigations, but I can't recall a single other investigation that turned all of our stomachs, in which investigators came out of briefings with tears in their eyes said," Ilan Ben Shalom, the central district police commander.
The police investigation and local media reports have revealed a complicated family history.
Rose was born in France to French-born Pisam and an Israeli man identified by his first name, Benjamin. Shortly after Rose's birth, her parents decided to travel to Israel to fulfill Benjamin's wish to meet, for the first time, his biological father Ronnie Ron. Ron, however, appeared more interested in Pisam. The two reportedly fell in love, and Pisam remained in Israel with Ron, while her husband returned to France with Rose.
Over the next two years Benjamin had difficulty raising his daughter and transferred her to a string of institutions in France.
Meanwhile, Pisam and Ron decided to wed and had two sons together. In 2007 they discovered that Rose, then three years old, had been hospitalised after allegedly suffering abuse at the hands of her father.
The two fought for custody of the girl, and later that year brought her to live with them in Israel.
A friend of the family said that Ron and Pisam felt they were headed towards "reunification" and that they hoped their family would soon have a happy ending. Rose, however, displayed severe behavioral problems from her reported history of abuse. She could not communicate in French or Hebrew, and had difficulty with basic motor skills.
Confronted with the difficulties of the girl, the couple decided to give her to Ron’s mother, Vivian, who cared for her for several months before insisting that another arrangement be made.
In May of 2008, Ron and Vivian had a bitter fight, after which Ron packed Rose's belongings in a bag and took the child home with him. It was the last time that Vivian saw the little girl.
Three months later, after repeated calls to Ron and Pisam, Vivian decided to approach authorities and report the girl as missing. Earlier this month, police began a widespread investigation into the case.
Police said that they are positive that Ron and Pisam are involved in the disappearance of Rose, but are still questioning the couple. During his interrogation, Ron recanted his initial testimony several times, telling police various versions of the story in which he sold the girl to Arabs in the Palestinian Authority or to a family abroad.

I read a report on 3A's yesterday, this child is dead. Her mother and grandfather are supposed to have murdered her.
Why did you keep silent?
How could it be that a young girl disappears in Israel and nobody says a word?
Rose. This is a story that tells itself. The sort of story that does not require anyone’s writing talent to touch the heart. The facts as we know them are tragic enough, incomprehensible enough, and heart-breaking enough; there is no need for us to add needless words to them. Rose. It appears that this soft, lovely, and fragile name was especially chosen for the main character in this shocking affair, a four-and-a-half-year-old child whose short life story is so inconceivable.
Rose. There was no place Tuesday around Israel where this name was not uttered in horror. Consternation. Shock. Anger. Yes, anger. This may be the strongest emotion that any reasonable person feels by now. One need not be a parent in order to feel a terrible sense of anger that overcomes even the sense of helplessness, frustration, and compassion for such a young human being who lived amongst us, a miserable life filled with suffering, physical pain, loneliness, and rejection. Who are we going to take this anger out on? On the human beasts that bear the warmest nicknames possible – “mom” and “grandpa”? On Rose’s surroundings, made up of relatives, friends, and neighbors – this child was living amongst them yet they turned a blind eye and closed their heart? The testimonies of neighbors generate a picture of a sad child. A sad child – this is almost an oxymoron. A sad child living amongst us and nobody bothers to find out why. Other testimonies spoke of a girl who walked the streets on her own. They said she seemed lonely. They noted that her grandfather is a violent man. Where were all those people? Why did they keep silent? Yet perhaps the anger should be directed at all of us, as a society. How could it be that a young girl disappears, and for three months nobody looks for her, nobody asks any questions, nobody complains? How could it be that a society that always boasted its involvement, care, and mutual responsibility failed so shamefully?
Rose. It is such a lovely name. It brings up so many emotions; and so many questions.

Grandfather confesses to killing Rose
Details of shocking murder case come to light after gag order lifted: Grandfather, romantically linked to daughter-in-law, confessed to murder of missing 4-year-old girl. 'I dumped her in the Yarkon River,' he told police
It has been cleared for publication that police have arrested the mother and grandfather of a missing four-year-old girl in connection to her murder - though no body has been recovered thus far.
The grandfather confessed to the murder, and reenacted it. He alleges the killing was accidental, and confirmed he had dumped the girl's body in the Yarkon river.
Both suspects were arrested last Tuesday, and a court remanded them for a third time.
The gag order on the case police officials are openly calling the most appalling murder in the country's history was lifted Tuesday morning after a French newspaper printed the full story, which has been subject to rife speculation since it broke on Sunday.
The true story, it would seem, is even more shocking than the worst case scenarios concocted by the Israeli rumor mill.
The story begins six years ago, when a Netanya resident called Binyamin Ron met a 23-year-old French citizen, Marie Pizem. The two married and had a daughter, whom they called Rose. They alternated
residences between Israel and France, with Rose in tow.
But after several years their relationship turned sour, and the couple divorced. Marie chose to settle in Israel, while Rose remained with her father in France.
Then, in a familial twist of events worthy of any soap opera, Marie began a romantic relationship with her former father-in-law, Rose's grandfather, 45-year-old Ronny Ron Yaakov.
Ron became the head of the family, and Marie bore him two girls – now aged 18 and 10 months. The new couple first lived in Modi'in before moving to an apartment building in Netanya.
Marie regained custody of Rose in December 2007, after the girl had been hospitalized in France and Marie had suspected her daughter had been abused. The girl joined her family in Israel.
Five months later, in May 2008, Rose disappeared. No one reported the matter to the police.
Great-grandmother became suspicious
The only one to suspect something was amiss was Vivian, Rose's 67-year-old great-grandmother and Ron's mother. At first when she asked where her great-granddaughter was – Ron told her she had been sent to a
boarding school.
But Vivian grew suspicious, and three months later, she turned to the National Council for the Child, who alerted the municipal welfare authorities – and the latter, in turn, first reported the story to the police.
Investigators visited the couple's apartment several times, but found it empty. When they finally located Marie and Ronny and questioned them, the two gave strange and contradictory statements.
The local detectives decided to arrest all three family members, and the investigation was handed over to the
Central Police Unit.
Police suspected Ron and Marie conspired to murder Rose, while Vivian was held on suspicion of being an accomplice to the plot.
The grandfather, Ron, confessed to his interrogators that he had murdered Rose, put her little body into a bag and dumped it into the Yarkon River.
Police officers who searched the couple's apartment for any clue that could lead to the girl uncovered a stack of letters written by Rose's mother and never mailed. In them she repeatedly says that she does not want the girl, further implicating her in Rose's murder.
Police combed the river with the assistance of volunteer divers, but so far have found no trace of a body. They called off the search efforts earlier on Tuesday, and are still hoping someone will contact their hotline with more information.
But Ron also 'confessed' to several other scenarios - later telling investigators that Rose was sent to religious school, sent abroad, or sold to a Palestinian.
His attorney, Revital Swaid, says her client "confessed to anything they asked, because he was willing to tell them whatever they wanted – so long as they released his partner (Marie)."
When the three were brought before a court to extend their arrest, Ron managed to blow a kiss to Marie and yelled "I love you" to her before police separated the two. Vivian has been placed under house arrest.
The grandfather: I beat the girl when she cried
Ron's attorney initially slammed the police for arresting Ron with little evidence, however he later confessed to accidentally killing Rose.
According to Ron, three months ago he was driving to Vivian's house with Rose, who was in the back seat. He said Rose had been eating a snack, and was screaming and crying. He, in a momentary outburst, smacked the girl and she fell silent.
After some time, he said, he noticed that her head was limp. He got out of the car and walked around to the backseat, she wasn't moving. Ron said that after determining that the girl was indeed dead, he picked up her body and hid it in the trunk of his car. He then drove to the Yarkon River, and dumped the body into the water. Ron told the investigators that upon returning home – he told Marie that he had taken Rose to a religious boarding school.
Ron said he became depressed following the incident, and considered ending his own life. He also said that he returned to the Yarkon to ask for the girl's forgiveness. Police took him to the bank of the river, where he reenacted his actions.
And if this case did not seem perverse and spine-chilling enough, another detail was added to the events.
It turns out that the family members have a familial connection to a recent murder case that appalled the nation. Sigalit Kirschner, who was killed in the Kadita ecological community in the Galilee with her new husband David Kazashtchar, is Roni Ron’s sister and Vivian’s mother.
However, aside from the familial connection, there is no relation between the two cases.
