I use lavender oil for its anti-bacterial properties, both in a burner and a few drops on my forehead. Lavender is one of only a few (two I think) oils you can use directly on your skin.

Well done all, on your weight loses!
Hope all those who are feeling ill get well soon, I'm suffering with it too, nasty lingering bug, that it is!

Thank you. I've just picked up a package of vitamin D3 from the post office (too big to go through your letter box stuff!) and I'm starting today. Apparently the best vitamin to boost the immune system.

Thank you, wjk. I subscribe to the newsletter from an American called Dr Mercola. Very interesting daily read.

has anyone else had this cold..nausea, nasty sinus headache around the eyes and forehead, chills, sweats and extreme tiredness, now its settled on my chest and i am back on the amoxcillin, again. it is a horrid lingering thing.
Thanks for the link nan Ive lost a further 2lbs Im really pleased, Ive been doing 30mins exercise about 5 days aweek and I think that is helping as well as bring my blood pressure down !
Yes my oh and I have had that exact same bug, and sadly the little begger seems to take alot of shifting, as you say ligering, Ive had it back twice my sister-in-law said it comes back and worse. your right it is horrid especially the headaches and tiredness, someone said to me you feel like you have just run a marathon, and thats just how I felt.
Watch out for the chest bit the second time round it seems to go to the chest and not in the sinuses, but you still get the sicky head aches.
Keep warm Nan and take good care of your self.

Ive started to eat porridge in a morning and Im enjoying it for now!!, I dont usually eat breakfast apart from the odd piece of toast now and again, but ive been told porridge helps when you are "cutting down" ( I dont call it a diet it has to much of a mental block on me !!!)

I have porridge most days as I have to have breakfast at around 7am and don't get the chance to eat anything else until around 11am. Mostly I add a banana but I also add milled flax seeds for Omega 3 and when I can get it a mix of milled flax seeds and goji berries. The best porridge is whole grain and this takes very little time to cook if you soak the grain the night before.
Re: Who is on a diet at the moment
hallo to those who have had the nasty virus, glad your all getting well. thanks for your responses. today i am a lot better, bit of energy for the first time in 2weeks, ready to get back on track..I had 1 tst and tea for brekkie, and just had a low cal sunday brunch. 2 grilled lean bacon, 3 grilled mushrooms and 2 grilled toms. 1tst n tea ...Mmmmmm..also made my first ever smoothie I used some left over strawbs mixed in a low fat vanilla yog, saving this for lata......Mmmmmm .
I use just a mini food processor from argos..very good value if all you want it to do is chop your salad, veg and blend soups and smoothies

It certainly does taste different. Instant porridge is OK if you don't have much time, but wholegrain is much much better. If you use the instant stuff, I would recommend not microwaving it. (See "What Doctors Don't Tell You," web site, where you will find a paper by a Swiss food scientist about microwave cooking.) Of course if people want to microwave food, that's their business. I have never had a microwave and try not to eat microwaved food.
Wholegrain porridge retains all the goodness of the oats. So, it's worth a little extra effort.

anna it is quite reassuring to hear your comments. My son and his wife have dont eat meat, some fish, mainly grains fruit and veg.
i have sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed by their views, they use almond milk now that they cutting down on dairy produce..they have strong views on cows milk and tell me its bad for me....i have read something about antbiotics and stuff and a times i feel very guilty for eating meat and drinking milk...although since joining WW I only eat red meat maybe once a week and chicken twice, i eat all kinds of fish. but i dont think i could give up dairy...

Hi there,
I am vegetarian, but I would never dream of trying to impose my thinking on others. (I'm not suggesting here that your son and his wife do!) What people choose to eat is entirely their own business. Sometimes I pass on information I have come across, such as the Swiss food scientist's research on microwave cooking. His paper was banned in Switzerland under a law that banned anything that would harm trade. He tested the blood of thousands of people who ate microwaved food.
I eat dairy products and usually use organic milk, but only organic cheese when it's on special offer as it's so expensive. Non-organic dairy products are said to carry growth hormones and antibiotics. The use of antibiotics is thought to be behind the fact that some children and adults who develop meningitis do not respond to antibiotics because the "reserved," ones are being fed to animals.
I have tried using soya milk and eating soya cheese, but I guess I just don't have the will power to persist! I like cheese and really enjoy good quality unusual ones.
I once worked with a man I referred to as a "Ninja vegan," who was so self-righteous and uptight, I tried to avoid him. There was a play on telly many years ago in which two couples went camping together. One couple had a food safe in which they kept their nut cutlets and the other couple gaily fried up their beefburgers. The veggie couple were shown to be really uptight and judgmental, while the beef-eaters were just laid back, easy-going. Moral: it's sometimes healthier to eat a beefburger on impulse than a nut cutlet on principle.
I have no time for people who try to tell me what I should or should not be eating or what I should or should not be putting in my compost bin, recycling bin or kitchen bin.
Re: Who is on a diet at the moment
i guess my son is a bit of a ninja My daughter in law is a more relaxed. its not that he preaches directly but he is bit like a religious convert..i worry about him, he is just too earnest...

My sister hasn't eaten red meat for 5 years she went to Doctors and they said she had high cholesterol but more importantly she has low white blood cells (anemia) this is coursed by not having red meat in your diet, her doctor recomended eating red meat twice a week just a small portion, there is such a lot of goodness in red meat that we need in our bodies, dairy hmm I think I could give that up, as I dont really eat alot for breakfast and drink green/black tea and watching my weight ive cut right back on cheese, twice a year I eat a yougart..
MODERATION IS THE KEY!!
