MISSING Maddie McCann's parents face a dramatic court showdown today with the former Portuguese cop who claims they lied about her disappearance.

Kate and Gerry McCann flew to Portugal yesterday for the start of a �1million libel action against Goncalo Amaral who insists in a now-banned book Maddie is dead.

A friend of the McCanns said: "This is not about the money. It is to put an end to Amaral saying these things.

"Enough is enough. He has made money out of Madeleine and has affected the search for her.

"If people think Madeleine is dead they won't be looking for her."

Amaral, 54, led the initial investigation into Maddie's disappearance aged three from Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

But he was sacked after publicly criticising the British police's involvement.

Since then he has made a fortune from his book claiming Maddie died in an accident or from an overdose of sedatives in the McCanns' holiday apartment.



He accused her parents of disposing of her body and making up the abduction story.

The McCanns, both 41, from Rothley, Leics, later won an injunction banning Amaral's book, The Truth Of The Lie, from sale.

But he plans to publish a new book called The English Gag tomorrow.

As Mrs McCann succinctly put it just hours before being named as a suspect: "The police don't want a murder in Portugal and all the publicity about them not having paedophile laws here, so they're blaming us."

So why did she mention murder when the PJ were at the time working on the assumption she was abducted. You would only use the word murder if you knew the person was dead!

And why the word MURDER? had it been an accident then she would have said a death or suspicious death in portugal but she used the word murder which is very telling.
We know she is atrociously bad at stringing comprehensible sentences togeather without ums ers tuts and sighs so it looks like she opened mouth before engaging brain.
This would lead me to think that she knows Madeleine is dead and she knows how. Now whether it was pre meditated or not i couldn't tell you but murder is usually indicative of premeditation or that the person equates the fact they killed someone even in the heat of temper as murder.
I think that Madeleine was killed when someone lost their temper. A hard push or shove, a slap or punch when in a rage and the deed is done. You have a dead child with signs of assault such as bruising, bleeding which cannot be explained as accidental.

It will be very hard for them to say Goncalo has affected the search because he believes she is dead and that has caused folk to stop donating and giving information when by their own admission they have said the same thing including hiring a body finder. Why do that if you truly believe your daughter is alive unless you know or suspect she is dead which is what Amaral has said.

Statistics would also indicate that unless a missing child is found within a certain time limit then the likelihood will be that the child is dead ( the exception being if the abduction is by a person known to the child such as an estranged parent)

Their early interviews say a lot more than they think which is probably why we now have to hear the whine of their pink spokespoodle rather than the whine of kate and gerry. neither of them can be trusted not to open mouth and insert foot and even the dumbest member of the public winces when you see them painfully mangle their way through simple sentences.

They know Maddy is dead and why say its not about the money? If it wasnt then why ask for 1M? Ask for 100K.

I got cranky when i read the daily express version of kate and gerry sue Amaral in particular the comment claiming that They have been cleared of any wrongdoing and claim the book has harmed the search for Madeleine because Mr Amaral said he believed she was dead. and The McCanns were later cleared of any involvement
So i have fired off an email to the express' editor and also the press complaints commission citing article 1

Accuracy
i) The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information, including pictures.

ii) A significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion once recognised must be corrected, promptly and with due prominence, and - where appropriate - an apology published.

iii) The Press, whilst free to be partisan, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.

iv) A publication must report fairly and accurately the outcome of an action for defamation to which it has been a party, unless an agreed settlement states otherwise, or an agreed statement is published.

I have pointed out that saying they have been cleared of any wrongdoing or involvement is misleading and distorted information since to be cleared they would have had to have been arrested, charged, tried and found not guilty in a court of law which clearly is not the case.
I pointed out that what they had actually had done was have their arguido status lifted which is completely different.
I informed them what the difference was between being an arguido and a witness was and also what protection was gained by being arguido.
I also pointed out that kate refused to answer 48 questions so either she chose to be made arguido or it was placed on her for her own legal protection. Should either be recalled back to Portugal or arrested and questioned again and one or both refuse to answer questions then they will automatically become arguidos again with the protection it entails such as having a lawyer present, refusing to answer questions and being able to lie, whereas as a witness they have to answer all questions and tell the truth otherwise it is a criminal offence.


I will let you know what happens

If Amaral is very clever he could easily throw this couple off balance and show them up for what they are, In My Opnion, people who know exactly what happened to Madeleine. They most certainly know that she will not be turning up any time soon or in the future.

Gonçalo Amaral's lawyer is in quarantine at home, after learning that an employee of his office has influenza A. António Cabrita has requested the postponement of the trial of the book "The Truth About The Lie."

The first session of the trial process against the book by the former coordinator of the Judicial Police, is scheduled for 9:30 pm today, at the 7th Circuit Court Civil Court of Lisbon, in the Courthouse. Gerry and Kate McCann have flown into Lisbon in determined mood and ready for a court battle with the ex-police chief who believes their missing daughter Madeleine is dead.

The McCanns believe ex-officer Goncalo Amaral is distorting the truth

They will ask a judge for a permanent ban on sales of Goncalo Amaral's book The Truth Of The Lie, in which he challenges their version of Madeleine's disappearance.

Mr McCann, 41, told Sky News: "We're here to make sure that freedom of speech doesn't allow the truth to be distorted.

"We believe the book has damaged the search for Madeleine.

"If people read it and believe she is dead then they will not keep looking for her and may not come forward with information they may have."

The couple will also ask the judge for around a million pounds in damages which they will use to pay for their own continuing hunt for their daughter.

Madeleine was nearly four when she vanished without trace from the family's rented holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on the Algarve coast in May, 2007.

She had been left with her twin siblings in bed while her parents dined nearby with friends.

The McCanns are sure she was abducted and believe she is still alive.

Mr Amaral was a senior officer in the investigation but was removed from it before it was abandoned after 15 months.

In his book he asserts that Madeleine died in the apartment and her death was covered up.

The McCanns won a temporary injunction in September when thousands of unsold copies of the book were handed over to their lawyers.

Mr Amaral will fight their action, claiming he has the right of freedom of speech.

He is also planning to launch a second book in which he will claim he has been gagged by the McCanns.

The court case is expected to conclude next week.
