Just announced, the Guy who threw the shaving cream pie has been fined £250 and jailed for 6 weeks...bit harsh , he obviously did not mean harm, just embarassment. He is 26yrs old and a Comedian

He is going to appeal apparently as the person who threw flour in the House of Commons didn't get a custodial sentence.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
May-Bowles should bring private charges of ABH against Murdoch's wife who continued to attack him long after he been prevented from further violently endangering Murdoch's well being by assaulting him with a vicious cardboard plate and blob of shaving cream.
British law is again shown to be pathetic and biased towards those with money and perhaps a hold over those in high powered positions.
It is obscene to allow sentences such as this to be passed when our streets are reminiscent of a battlefield. Thugs carrying and using guns and knives are a common event....Our emergency services are reviled and abused, our elderly population terrorised in their homes and the perpetrators will invariably walk away almost Scott free when caught. Paedophiles set free to walk the streets and re offend...
But the thrower of a foam pie demonstrating a protest against the man... who is not even a British Subject... who almost certainly knew what actions his employees were taking and their abuse of the civil rights of the British people by hacking their phones is given a custodial sentence? It's little more than a corrupt joke and the officials of the court that brought down this sentence should be relieved of their responsibilities to the people of this country.

Good rant too malena.
The Judicial system in the U.K. are woefully inept, a sledgehammer to crack a nut in some cases, a complete inability to let the punishment fit the
Crime in other cases.

Yes totally agree - but then these are the 'supposed elite' and they can't allow any form of protest to contaminate their hemisphere.
What happens on the streets does not affect them so they ignore it - we are lessor mortals and can put up with it!

I think this must have been the reason Newscorp set aside $4.2 Billion, to pay for all these claims. Off topic, Pele is in London to support a Charity, he
look great!!!

This snippet was shown briefly " Murdoch clean up effort draws fire from Independence Unit, Committees Independence Mandate.". . Not quite sure
whether this relates to the Commons Select Committee or Newscorp whose Directors recently canvassed Shareholders .

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
This is an extract from the Guardian article on the Piers Morgan thread.
Meanwhile
the FBI is widening its investigation of News Corporation's activities
within the US to look at whether allegations of computer hacking by one
of its subsidiaries was an isolated case or part of a "larger pattern of
behaviour", Time magazine is reporting.
Time suggests that the
FBI inquiry has been extended from a relatively narrow look at alleged
malpractices by News Corp in America into a more general inquiry into
whether the company used possibly illegal strongarm tactics to browbeat
rival firms, following allegations of computer hacking made by retail
advertising company Floorgraphics.
In a civil lawsuit against
News Corp in 2004 Floorgraphics told a court that its website had been
breached 11 times over four months without authorisation. The source of
the alleged hacking was traced back to an IP address registered to News
America in Connecticut.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
I think Newscorp is in trouble in Australia, the Prime Minister said a while ago that in light of the NOTW scandal and the FBI investigating , she would
look into Newscorp"s business affairs in Australia. Can"t remember the exact finding but it was something to do with a failed bid for an Australian
Company.
The Newscorp Directors sent a questionnaire to shareholders, their reply to remain anonymous , asking what they thought of the voting system, were they satisfied with the Governance of the Company. Obviously the result is private, but I think this move to pay 20% increase on the quarterly Dividend
to accelerate buybacks is significant.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
Newscorp is to meet Analysts today to discuss the latest Accounts for Newscorp, whether a new bid will be made for bskyb shares and his role as
Chairman of Newscorp.
He will also be questioned about the arrangement where his Family own only 12% of shares, but 40% voting rights. also, is it right that James Murdoch
is on the Board of Newscorp and bskyb . Is he confident that the News of the World problems are now over.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
The Directors and shareholders have demanded the voting system of Newscorp be altered to make a fairer arrangement. James Murdoch to relinquish
one of his CEO positions in newscorp and bskyb, he must also be ready to answer questions of U.K. Law Makers. Rupert Murdoch must decide whether he
should retire from Newscorp.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
Although Newscorp made a loss, there is no material impact on Business and the Shareholders are to be paid 27% Dividend. Newscorp is to spend
$5 Billion on a share buy-back.
The Analysts are saying they want to see an independent Board of Directors, at the moment too many are pro Murdoch who is increasingly showing
signs that he should step down. Equally, James Murdoch is due to appear before the Committee to explain why he said he knew nothing about what was
going on, but two ex-Managers of NOTW say he did. If it is proven that he lied to the Committee, he will have to step down as Chairman of bskyb and
Director of NewsCorp.
These comments have been taken from Studio discussions with Analysts .

More analysts are suggesting Murdoch stand down and he has said when he does he has hinted that Casey is his preferred choice....not James.!!
Shareholders are calling for a restructure of Newscorp shares so that the Murdoch Family do not have so much voting power.

James Murdoch"s Testimony is to be examined by Lawmakers in view of onconsistencies and statements of 2 ex NOTW Employees....... looking bad
for him and may be the reason Murdoch chose Casey ro succeed him rather than James as his successorat NewsCorp.

Files 'Cast Doubt' On Murdoch Hack Evidence
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/files-cast-doubt-murdoch-hack-evidence-094642332.html
MPs have been sent documents that appear to cast doubt on James Murdoch's evidence that he was unaware of wider hacking at the News Of The World (NOTW), according to Sky sources.
It follows his appearance in front of the House of Commons Select Committee in July.
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee is meeting today to consider whether to recall Mr Murdoch, along with former NOTW editor Colin Myler and the tabloid's former legal manager Tom Crone to clarify apparent inconsistencies in their evidence.
Speaking in July, Mr Murdoch told MPs he was "not aware" of an email suggesting phone hacking was not limited to one reporter at the NOTW, which was published by News International.
But Mr Myler and Mr Crone said they had informed him about the email and he was "mistaken".

Thanks mara_thon, is this today"s News? I ask because the Committee was meant to meet last week, and I thought the "Lawmakers"s review might be the result of that meeting.

Breaking News.......Clive Goodman"s rebuttal that in 2007 the Editor and senior Staff did not know about the hacking in the NOTW has resulted in the
Committee having to decide whether to recall James Murdoch. Newscorp has issued a Statement that they will be working with all relevant Committees.
More to follow.
