16 year old home alone in Valencia for two months after mother moves out to live with boyfriend

A woman has been arrested in Sagunto, Valencia, after she moved out of the family home to live with her boyfriend, leaving her 16 year old son living there alone.

The 40 year old moved out two months ago and is reported to have given her son 20 € every three days to cover his living costs. EFE reports that her last visit was on July 20, when she refused to give him any money for food and physically attacked her son when he tried to stop her leaving.

The boy was attacked by his mother’s partner two days later and threatened with a knife when he asked again for some money and had to be treated for his injuries at the local hospital. The mother and her boyfriend, who has a previous police record, were both arrested shortly afterwards by the police.
