CRISTOBELL UNBOUND/Madeleine McCann

Post  Annabel on Wed 18 Jul - 10:19

http://cristobell.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/madeleine-mccann.html

MADELEINE MCCANN
I have always hesitated to write about this case, because it seems to incite such extremes of emotion. Do I dare disturb the universe today - heck, yeh, why not?

Firstly, I am not a 'hater' nor am I a 'forker'. I don't hate Kate and Gerry, nor do I hate Madeleine. I would describe myself as an observer, perhaps, occasionally, a wannabe iconoclast.

I began watching this curious case from the moment it broke first broke news. It was one of those 'I remember where I was, and what I was doing' moments. At first my reaction was the same as everyone else, shock, horror and heart wrenching sympathy for the parents.

As time and revelations unfolded, I became hooked enough to make it my specialist subject, should Mastermind ever give me the call. I have since discovered that there are many of us out there, so have decided not to beat myself up over it.

Its been gripping all through, for sure, and so many twists and turns - fortunately there are those dedicated people out there keeping meticulous and easily accessible information - its that kind of case.

It is a Masterclass in spin doctory and sales techniques. It has raised the bar on everything that has gone before. From a media perspective, it should be used in textbooks. Clarence should be having a proud father/son moment with Alistair Campbell. But Gerry McCann should have a standing ovation too, the man is a genius, and obviously followed the wrong calling in life.

Whether you like Kate and Gerry or not, they have achieved a marketing campaign, the like of which has never been seen before. It does not surprise me that the Charity Missing People have appointed Kate as their ambassador. The name Madeleine McCann still sells newspapers, and that is the bottom line. We live under a tory government, everything is a business. I take back the last remark, it happened under a labour government too. They all seem to have blurred into one.

I have read the book of Dr. Amaral, and the first thing that struck me, was his compassion towards the parents. I understood his reasons for writing it. Honour/reputation is one of the few things we can live and die by - we are but a short time on this earth.

I won't judge him. In all good detective stories, the hero is usually flawed. Its what makes them human. If this is ever made into a film, I am sure A-list actors will be fighting to play his part. My money is on Antonio Banderas. Just because I am feeling mischevious, I hereby open a suggestion box for the leading protagonist roles!

Anyway, to explain my obsession with this case: Among the many things I have learned along the way, is a little bit of Portuguese culture, a lot about the political skullduggery that goes on behind closed doors and my own personal favourites, body language and forensic linguistics.

But back to the case in question. Imo, the massive media presence muddied the investigation. I was chilled to the bone, when I heard/saw details of Madeleine's distinctive eye, flashed all over the news. I was perturbed that Team McCann had their own news channel on Sky, though I too watched it obsessively for updates.

This case has attracted more than its share of fruitloops. The Stephen Birch 'buried in Casa Liliana' is headline grabbing, but too incredible for those of us, who have done our homework and believe in the dogs.

This is real life however, and in real life, detectives rarely, if ever, solve homicides and missing people cases within 60 minutes, or during an ad break. I have made up my own mind, based on the evidence that exists, though I am always open to persuasion either way, but my gut feeling is, that the parents and their friends, should get themselves ruled out as suspects once and for all. I think this would have been hugely beneficial to the morale and enthusiasm for their search.

This is indeed, an intriguing case, and one I shall watch closely for ever more, as I am sure will many. I'm happy to say I am one of those people who can watch a mystery, and still say 'blimey, I didn't see that coming'.

It may just be me but I don't understand the bit near the end that the parents and their friends should get themselves ruled out as suspects. Apart from the fact that, thanks to their self-created circumstances this is well nigh impossible, I'm left unsure as to whether the blog writer believes the official story or not.

A small child has disappeared but in the words of the writer, hey, what the heck - the father is a genius and Mitchell should be having a proud father moment? Did the media campaign really muddle the investigation? IMO it was political interference that thwarted the outcome and still continues to do so. The Portuguese police actually had it solved.

The way I read the wording of this article, I am taking it to mean that they should have co-operated with the police and done the reconstruction and done anything else asked of them, because that is the only way to rule yourself out as a suspect, if a diligent reconstruction could have ruled them out then they should have done it. That is what I think it means.

Obviously this writer is looking at it from many angles. Yes Gerry could be classed as a genius. How many of us in the same circumstances would think to contact the number of people he/they did? Some may call it devious on the other hand.

But yes, I agree, its an opinion of sorts but doesn't bring anything new. This writer is sitting on the fence imo.

Think the final paragraph suggests a bit of a giveaway actually as that particular exersize would be pointless.

Thanks Annabel, worth a read, but this comment is very informed, I wonder how much is true. I's part of an Anonymous comment.

"The Sun wrote the letter to Cameron and published it before he saw it. He never responded. The cops have been investigating all the time, but no physical proof that there's an actual review. More spin. Now the McCanns are separated, living at different addresses--rarely seen together. A new book is in the pipeline: somewhere along the lines of, 'How Our Grief For Madeleine Tore Us Apart'. Random House have already been approached, the book almost completed--by way of diaries, like the last one. The book will come out next Spring, and the 'exclusive' will be that they are filing for divorce. What happens afterwards in anybody's guess. he public and press are sick of the same old yakka, the same long faces and droning voices."

Hi Lioned,

Cristobell is a member of TCMOMM, and said yesterday, that she was 'taking the plunge on her birthday' and starting her own blog. I believe she said she wants to attempt an 'unemotional, logical' approach.

From her past posts, she is definitely not a pro.

Wow! Jolly interesting, but it's not clear to me where this came from? Anonymous comment where? I honestly don't think the next book will sell well. Hope they got a better ghostwriter this time. They must have given Gerry a carrot too, if Kate is designated to save all children in the world single handed. Excluding teenagers with acne and greasy hair of course, mainly photogenic ones. So what is Gerry's reward going to be? MEP?
Why stop at giving her an OBE? Start collecting for a statue now - which reminds me of an old joke re Harold Wilson.

A statue of Wilson had been commissioned but placing it was proving to be a problem - to cut a long story short, the shortlist was: Columbus. Lloyd George and George Washington.
Columbus because he set out not knowing where he was going, on arriving didn't know where he was and on returning didn't know where he'd been and did it all on borrowed money. But this was rejected in favour of putting Wilson in between:
Lloyd George because he never told the truth-
George Washington because he never told a lie - a perfect spot for Harold Wilson because he couldn't tell the difference.

With all the lies now in existence, leading a life of their own, can the McCanns still tell the difference?

Hi AnnaEsse, you know what they say, there is no smoke without fire and this is the 3rd time it has been reported that the McCanns have split. If
true that Kate has written another Book, they really are milking this particular Cow and I would be surprised if there will be much interest.. the "Epilogue"
dropped to half price quuite soon . Whatever is the matter with them? They have made enough money to pay off their Mortgage, Gerry has a well paid
job, Kate could go back to work if she wanted to, yet they still crave attention.

Hi tigger, it is the comments part of the Article.....rather long which is why I only copied part of it. As I just remarked to AnnaEsse, this is the third time we have been aware of the split , someone even posted that Gerry had a girl-friend.

I wondered a while ago why Gerry had the Hospital as an address and Kate had Braithwaite, the Secretaries.....maybe thhis is the reason.

If Kate claims "grief for Maddie tore us apart," what was she doing grabbing Gerry's crotch right up to the bitter end, and claiming their sex life was back on track in her bewk?

Honestly if people can't see what calculated liars they are following yet another McCann round of B.S.for gold, then I really do give up hope for the public at large.

I think Kate's new ambassador role is preparing herself for going solo. I absolutely believe this. I think Gerry has stood by her in the hope of making himself very wealthy but it hasn't really materialised and support for them is diminishing and so he is jumping ship now.

Re: CRISTOBELL UNBOUND/Madeleine McCann

If this is true, then 'Grief for Maddy tore us apart' would be a cruel title for a book. Cruel on the twins. At the end of the day they still have the twins who need a mummy and daddy and they have to be thought about as well; there is more to the family than one child. As well as asking in later life, why didn't mum and dad stay in with us rather than go out and leave us alone, they will be asking why did they think more of Madeleine than us. I could understand a title like this if Madeleine were an only child but not when there are other children in the family to think about and consider.

If they have split, the truth of it would be the amount of stress they have put themselves under and stress leads to differences of opinion and full blown arguments. People's personalities change under stress. Stress is different to grief but can accompany grief under certain circumstances. However, grief alone can often bring couples/families closer together.
