"Bulger-killer questioned over child porn"

"POLICE removed British child killer Jon Venables from his prison cell to face further questioning over fresh child porn allegations which had him recalled to jail earlier in March.

Venables, 27, one of the killers of two-year-old James Bulger, was given just five minutes to pack before he was moved for questioning, The Sun reported.

A source said: "Two police cars arrived at 6am Thursday (5pm Thursday AEDT). One parked next to the isolation unit where Venables was held.

"He was given five minutes to get dressed and put his stuff into a bag. He was gone within 20 minutes. It was very slickly organized."

Armed officers were deployed because of security risks surrounding Venables.

A police source said: "He has the highest profile of any prisoner in Britain. Moving him from a secure cell into the public domain is a security nightmare."

Police probing the allegations are trying to establish how any suspect images may have been obtained. Venables was said to have been in possession of category four child pornography - one level below the most depraved sort.

Senior detectives have sought advice from the Crown Prosecution Service's Special Crime Division, which handles the most sensitive cases. Once the inquiry is complete, cops will pass a file to the CPS.

The decision on whether to prosecute will lie personally with Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer.
He will weigh up if there is enough evidence and if it is in the public interest.

A senior legal source said: "The DPP will have conversations with the Attorney General. But the final decision lies with him alone."

Mr Starmer has shown determination to prosecute high-profile cases, including the three MPs and a peer charged over expenses.

Venables and Robert Thompson were ten when they murdered James, two, in Liverpool in 1993.

They were freed on license with new identities in 2001.

Child porn carries a sentence of up to 10 years. But if convicted, Venables could face life for breaching his licence terms."

NOTW says the tories believe there is enough evidence for him to be tried.

Yes - I heard for possession of 57 images on his computer and distributing 7 of them on the internet.

One of two men convicted as children of killing toddler James Bulger 17 years ago has been charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.

Jon Venables, now 27, is accused of downloading 57 indecent images of children between February 2009 and February this year.

He is also charged with distributing seven indecent images of children between 1 and 23 February this year, the Press Association reported.

Mr Venables was recalled to prison in February after being accused of breaching the terms of his licence.

Mr Venables and Robert Thompson were jailed for life for the 1993 murder of two-year-old Bulger, who was led away from a shopping centre in Liverpool by the two ten-year-olds.

They were released on licence in 2001 after being given new identities.

The criminal charges could not be reported until a judge at the Old Bailey lifted some reporting restrictions in court today.

Mr Venables is due to face a plea and case management hearing on 23 July when he is expected to appear by prison video link.

Since his conviction with Mr Thompson, scant official information about the pair has been released.

Strict court orders prevent the media from identifying the pair or giving details about where they live and what they do.

Denise Fergus, the mother of the murdered toddler, has campaigned for the pair's anonymity to be lifted.

Years ago I went for a job interview at a place where one of those two, Thompson or Venables, had spent most of their 8 years. Believe me, it was in no way, 'a slammer.' The young people were locked into their rooms at night, but in the day there were recreation rooms with brilliant facilities and education in very small groups with specialist teachers. The young people could, 'earn,' outings to the town by good behaviour and they all seemed to have the latest games consoles and good TVs in their rooms. All of the young people I saw were well dressed in good quality casual clothing.

I bet there are a good many young people from poor families in deprived areas of the UK who would love to have access to the kind of resources those young people have.

And the charges only seem to relate to the most recent activity:

God alone knows how much other activity there was????

If they were depraved before, 8years in Jail would have meant contact with paedophiles and all manner of low life, no wonder he didn"t reform. However, at least he didn"t indulge in anything more serious than downloading porn and distributing some pictures. That"s one of the problems with the internet , as much as it
is a marvellous information and communication tool, pornography and paedophilia downloading and distribution is the downside.

I read the other lad emigrated to Canada, he had the right idea and I hope he regrets what he did and is leading
a normal life.
