Two six-year-old boys who went missing with their father who took them to Europe nine days ago have been found "safe and well", police have said.

Andrew Wall, 40, of Immingham, and twins Liam and Ciaran were reported missing by the boys' mother on 15 June.

Inquiries led detectives to the Essex port of Harwich on Thursday morning where the boys were found.

Police arrested a 60-year-old woman who they said had brought the boys back from Belgium after meeting Mr Wall.

Officers are still trying to trace Mr Wall and urged him to contact police.

He and his sons, who all live with the boys' mother, were reported missing after they failed to return from a trip to Sheffield.

They boarded a Eurostar train in London on 16 June, arriving in Brussels later that night.

Det Supt Dena Fleming, of Humberside Police, said: "We are very pleased that the two boys have been found safe and well and are looking to get the boys reunited with their mum as soon as possible."

'Very distinctive man'

She said the 60-year-old woman, who is not connected to the family, was arrested in Harwich as she tried to re-enter the country with the boys.

Police said she remained in custody "helping with our inquiries".

They said they were "keen to locate Mr Wall as he is still refusing to talk directly to police at this time".

"We are aware of the personal problems which may have led to him going away, however, we can possibly help so please contact us," said Det Supt Fleming.

"We are continuing to appeal for the public's help by them reporting any sightings of this very distinctive man."

He is described as white, about 6ft 5in, heavily built with dark brown, receding hair and a moustache.

Police said he may have a contact in Cologne, Germany, and urged anyone who saw him to contact police immediately.
