Honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani 'spends his days playing computer games in a camper van'

Court told how Dewani has flashbacks and remembers the breath of a man holding a gun to his head

Honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani spends his days playing computer games in a camper van on the grounds of a mental hospital, a court heard today.
Dewani, 32, is being treated for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder so he can be extradited to face charges over the death of Anni, 28, in Cape Town.
He told doctors the smell of the breath of the man who he claims held a gun to his head before shooting dead his bride in November 2010 is “burned into his brain”, Westminster magistrates court heard.
It was claimed he also has flashbacks and is aggressive towards staff at Fromeside Clinic, in Bristol.
The court heard that Dewani has a "withdrawn" attitude and spends his time in a disused camper van outside Fromeside Clinic in Bristol playing computer games

A judge ruled Dewani, who is on bail and maintains his innocence, can move to the city’s Blaise View mental health hospital, which has lower levels of security and a calmer environment.
His lawyer Clare Montgomery said: “He cannot travel by car as he has a reaction.
"In his state it is unthinkable he’d be able to plan any escape, let alone effect one.”
Dewani’s condition will be reviewed in April, ahead of an extradition hearing in July.

Re: LATEST NEWS ON DEWANI MURDER

London - British businessman Shrien Dewani - wanted in South Africa in connection with the honeymoon murder of his wife - has suffered a mental health relapse, a London court heard today.
The British Press Association reported that Dewani, 33, was being treated at a hospital in Bristol for depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Last month, the Westminster Magistrate's Court heard that his condition had "improved significantly".
Dewani's 28-year-old wife Anni was shot when the taxi the couple were travelling in was hijacked in the Gugulethu township on the outskirts of Cape Town in November 2010.
On Wednesday, Clare Montgomery QC, for Dewani, said doctors had taken Dewani off the anti-anxiety medication which was helping him most with his condition, after a bad reaction.
"We may have taken one step back, having taken two steps forward," she said.
In view of Dewani's condition, he had been sectioned for a further 12 months under the Mental Health Act.
It also emerged on Wednesday that the defence made proposals last month for Dewani to make a voluntary return to South Africa, although the details of the offer were not discussed in court.
Under the government's current plans, if Dewani was extradited he would be assessed upon arrival for mental health issues.
If he was considered at risk, he would be taken to the psychiatric unit at Valkenberg Hospital in Cape Town, before being sent to Goodwood prison.
Hugo Keith QC, for the South African authorities, told the court they were happy for a defence expert to visit Valkenburg to assess its suitability.
He said he would need to take instructions on whether a similar inspection of Goodwood was possible.
Keith argued that the South Africans would "trip over their corporate toes" to make sure that Dewani receives the right psychiatric support if he was extradited.
Chief Magistrate Howard Riddle rejected a request from the defence to put back the full extradition hearing so an expert could visit Valkenberg in August.
"I am very, very reluctant to delay this case any further," he said.
The full extradition hearing was expected to start on 1 July.

Re: LATEST NEWS ON DEWANI MURDER
Shrien Dewani will be extradited to South Africa to face charges of orchestrating his wife's murder, a court has ruled.
However, the 33-year-old's lawyers have said they intend to appeal against the decision.
Anni Dewani was shot dead on the outskirts of Cape Town in November 2010 while the couple were on honeymoon.
The 33-year-old, who has depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, strongly denies any involvement in his wife’s murder.
His risk of suicide is real but not immediate, and while he remains moderately depressed he is better than he was, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.
Dewani was seeking to delay his extradition on account of his mental health.
His lawyers have expressed concerns he would be a high suicide risk if he returned to the country, and his human rights could be breached because of the risk of violent and sexual assaults in jail, and of contracting HIV.
Newlywed Mrs Dewani was shot when a taxi in which the couple were travelling was hijacked in the Gugulethu township.
Mr Dewani and driver Zola Tongo were ejected from the car before Mrs Dewani was driven away and killed.
She was found dead in the back of the abandoned vehicle with a bullet wound to her neck.
Last year, South African Xolile Mngeni was convicted of premeditated murder for shooting Mrs Dewani.
Prosecutors claimed he was a hit-man hired by Shrien Dewani to kill his new wife, something that Dewani has consistently denied.
Tongo was jailed for 18 years after he admitted his part in the crime, and another accomplice, Mziwamadoda Qwabe, also pleaded guilty to charges over the murder and was handed a 25-year prison sentence.
South African authorities have welcomed the extradition decision.
"We are very excited about it," said Bulelwa Makeke, from the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa.
"We have worked very hard to convince the UK authorities that the South African justice system is fair.
"He (Dewani) will face a fair trial. Any health concerns will be also be taken care of appropriately."
More follows...
I hope he doesn't win any appeal.....

I hope so too. It's time this charade was ended and he went to SA to face the court. The SA authorities have said he'll be well looked after. Get the man on a plane!
