Re: Footie Thread...................
One of my early memories was Jan 1966 FA Cup third round Millwall v Spurs at the old Den.I had queued up for 12 hours the week before to get a ticket,my elder sister is a Spurs fan,she was in love with Jimmy Greaves, she asked me to get her a ticket but when i got to the gate it was 'one ticket per person',my sister cried when i got home and told her,she was 15 i think at the time.
There was 41000 in the ground which was later declared 'safe' for 28000 !
Never heard a racket like it and it finished 0-0.
Replay at WHL was packed with 58000 and played on a mud pit of a pitch,Alan Gilzean latched on to a back pass that got stuck in the mud and Spurs won 1-0,pretty much against the run of play.
No trouble to be seen between the fans in those games the grounds were so packed you couldn't move if you wanted.Got some great pictures of the fans at Millwall all over and up the floodlights and sitting on the roofs, those were the days.
In actual fact the first game i ever went to see was Spurs v Man U probably around 1962 as my best friend asked his dad to take us for his birthday pressie. He took us again the following season but by that time i had found religion and there was nothing North of the Thames as far as i was concerned.

Some good memories Lioned. In those days most of the fans would have been standing too, I remember fans sitting on the floodlights at some games...how times have changed! I bet when you bought your ticket you didn't have to pay £3 admin charge on top! I remember when it was £2.50 to get in the ground in the 80's, or £5 for a seat....last game I went to was £90! its silly
I used to love Saint and Greavsie saturday lunchtime show and On The Ball with Brian Moore on Sundays hoping your team was on, an action reply was a big thing in them days Who would have thought that years later you would be able to watch any match you watch on a phone sitting on a bus!

thank you Feel better now
I can relate to what Lioned was saying about going to see Spurs but found his religion with Millwall in between. Its similar for me, I used to go and watch Arsenal a lot in the days of Stapleton, Brady, McDonald etc at Highbury (I was young and impressionable back then ). I used to love the occasion of a professional football match but I went to Spurs for the first time in between all these Arsenal matches and just found my religion straight away with them. You can't explain it except it just felt right for me inside

I know. Seriously we all love our clubs and most of us cannot explain why. Something to do with our tribal instincts I guess where we feel we belong
