Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
I think Newscorp is in trouble in Australia, the Prime Minister said a while ago that in light of the NOTW scandal and the FBI investigating , she would
look into Newscorp"s business affairs in Australia. Can"t remember the exact finding but it was something to do with a failed bid for an Australian
Company.
The Newscorp Directors sent a questionnaire to shareholders, their reply to remain anonymous , asking what they thought of the voting system, were they satisfied with the Governance of the Company. Obviously the result is private, but I think this move to pay 20% increase on the quarterly Dividend
to accelerate buybacks is significant.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
Newscorp is to meet Analysts today to discuss the latest Accounts for Newscorp, whether a new bid will be made for bskyb shares and his role as
Chairman of Newscorp.
He will also be questioned about the arrangement where his Family own only 12% of shares, but 40% voting rights. also, is it right that James Murdoch
is on the Board of Newscorp and bskyb . Is he confident that the News of the World problems are now over.

The Directors and shareholders have demanded the voting system of Newscorp be altered to make a fairer arrangement. James Murdoch to relinquish
one of his CEO positions in newscorp and bskyb, he must also be ready to answer questions of U.K. Law Makers. Rupert Murdoch must decide whether he
should retire from Newscorp.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
Although Newscorp made a loss, there is no material impact on Business and the Shareholders are to be paid 27% Dividend. Newscorp is to spend
$5 Billion on a share buy-back.
The Analysts are saying they want to see an independent Board of Directors, at the moment too many are pro Murdoch who is increasingly showing
signs that he should step down. Equally, James Murdoch is due to appear before the Committee to explain why he said he knew nothing about what was
going on, but two ex-Managers of NOTW say he did. If it is proven that he lied to the Committee, he will have to step down as Chairman of bskyb and
Director of NewsCorp.
These comments have been taken from Studio discussions with Analysts .

Shareholders are calling for a restructure of Newscorp shares so that the Murdoch Family do not have so much voting power.

Files 'Cast Doubt' On Murdoch Hack Evidence
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/files-cast-doubt-murdoch-hack-evidence-094642332.html
MPs have been sent documents that appear to cast doubt on James Murdoch's evidence that he was unaware of wider hacking at the News Of The World (NOTW), according to Sky sources.
It follows his appearance in front of the House of Commons Select Committee in July.
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee is meeting today to consider whether to recall Mr Murdoch, along with former NOTW editor Colin Myler and the tabloid's former legal manager Tom Crone to clarify apparent inconsistencies in their evidence.
Speaking in July, Mr Murdoch told MPs he was "not aware" of an email suggesting phone hacking was not limited to one reporter at the NOTW, which was published by News International.
But Mr Myler and Mr Crone said they had informed him about the email and he was "mistaken".

Breaking News.......Clive Goodman"s rebuttal that in 2007 the Editor and senior Staff did not know about the hacking in the NOTW has resulted in the
Committee having to decide whether to recall James Murdoch. Newscorp has issued a Statement that they will be working with all relevant Committees.

Hi halfamo
If James Murdoch is charged with lying to the Committee, the Lawmakers might well charge him with Perjury. Also, if this happens, he can say Goodbye to being Chairman of bskyb and on the Board of Newscorp.

NOTW Bosses 'Widely Discussed' Hacking
James Murdoch is likely to be recalled to give evidence to MPs after a
letter was published claiming phone hacking was "widely discussed" at
the News Of The World.
James Murdoch giving evidence in July
The News International chairman appeared in front of the Culture, Media and Sport (CMS) Committee in July.
He
told MPs he was "not aware" of an email suggesting phone hacking was
not limited to one reporter at the News Of The World (NOTW).
But MPs have been sent documents that appear to cast doubt on this claim.
The CMS committee has published a letter written four years ago by
former royal editor Clive Goodman, who was jailed in 2007, saying
hacking was "widely discussed" at editorial meetings at the Sunday
tabloid until the then editor Andy Coulson banned further mention of it.
It went on to say that Mr Coulson offered to let him keep his job if
he agreed not to implicate the paper in hacking when he came to court,
and that his own hacking was carried out with "the full knowledge and
support" of other senior journalists, whose names have been blacked out
in the letter.
james murdoch committee evidence: July 19, 2011
Mr Coulson has strenuously denied any knowledge of hacking, both
before a Commons Select Committee and while he was employed as David
Cameron's director of communications at Number 10.
The CMS committee will be recalling former NOTW editor Colin Myler
and former legal manager Tom Crone to give evidence on September 6.
Read blog by Sky's Sophy Ridge
Daniel Cloke, who was human resources director at News International
(NI), and Jon Chapman, who was director of legal affairs, have also been
called to give evidence.
The MPs have also written to Mr Coulson and his predecessor as editor
Rebekah Brooks, ex-managing editor Stuart Kuttner, and ex-NI chief
executive Les Hinton to ask whether they wish to clarify earlier
evidence given to the committee.
In a statement issued in July, Mr Myler and Mr Crone said they had
informed James Murdoch about the email and that he was "mistaken".
Names of other journalists were blacked out in the letter
When James Murdoch gave evidence to the committee on July 19, he said he was "not aware" of the email.
The basis of his defence to the phone-hacking scandal has always been
that he was told there was only one rogue reporter, Goodman, involved
in the practice.
But the conflicting accounts hinge on a settlement paid to
Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor in
2008, worth a reported £700,000, after he brought a damages claim
against the NOTW.
Colin Myler holding the last ever issue of the NOTW
At the committee hearing, MP Tom Watson asked James Murdoch: "When
you signed off the Taylor payment, did you see or were you made aware of
the full Neville email, the transcript of the hacked voicemail
messages?"
He replied: "No, I was not aware of that at the time."
In a statement, Mr Myler and Mr Crone said: "Just by way of
clarification relating to Tuesday's CMS Select Committee hearing, we
would like to point out that James Murdoch's recollection of what he was
told when agreeing to settle the Gordon Taylor litigation was mistaken.
"In fact, we did inform him of the 'for Neville' email which had been produced to us by Gordon Taylor's lawyers."
The 'for Neville' email contained a list of transcribed hacked
messages obtained by Taylor's lawyers from the police by a court order.
It was one of 11,000 files seized from private investigator Glenn Mulcaire who was jailed alongside Mr Goodman.
'Neville' apparently refers to Neville Thurlbeck who was employed as the NOTW's chief reporter.
Gordon Taylor brought a damages claim against the NOTW
The Goodman letter was included in a submission released by Harbottle
and Lewis, the lawyers appointed to assist News International in
dealing with Mr Goodman's appeal against dismissal.
A News International spokesperson said: "News Corporation's board has
set up a Management and Standards Committee, chaired by independent
Chairman Lord Grabiner, which is co-operating fully with the
Metropolitan Police and is facilitating their investigation into illegal
voicemail interception at the News of the World and related issues.
"We recognise the seriousness of materials disclosed to the Police
and Parliament and are committed to working in a constructive and open
way with all the relevant authorities."

Did James Murdoch Mislead MPs?
Sophy Ridge
August 16, 2011 2:35 PM
The focus today is on the explosive 2007 letter from the former News of the World Royal Editor Clive Goodman.
He
claims that phone hacking was "widely discussed" in editorial meetings
at the paper - which points the finger at then editor Andy Coulson.
But there's another crucial part of today's evidence that shouldn't be overlooked.
Much
of the evidence revolves around what is known as the "For Neville"
email. It's important because it appears to implicate someone at the
paper other than Clive Goodman and the investigator Glenn Mulcaire. In
other words, it potentially undermines News International's defence that
hacking was the work of one "rogue reporter."
Read Tom Crone's letter to MPs here
The crucial question is, who knew about this email - and when?
James
Murdoch told MPs on the Culture Media and Sport Committee that he was
not shown the email by former News of the World editor Colin Myler and
former News of the World lawyer Tom Crone.
He backs this up in
written evidence published today: "I have no recollection of any mention
of 'Thurlbeck' or a 'For Neville' email". Mr Murdoch continues:
"Neither Mr Myler nor Mr Crone told me that wrongdoing extended beyond
Mr Goodman or Mr Mulcaire."
Tom Crone has a very different recollection.
He's
unequivocal in his written evidence: "I believe the meeting at which I
informed Mr James Murdoch of the “for Neville” email was in June 2008,"
continuing, "I have no doubt that I informed Mr Murdoch of its
existence, of what it was and where it came from."
They can't both be right.
I have no idea if James Murdoch did indeed mislead the committee.
But
the potential consequences for this would be devastating - and
potentially far more wide reaching than the Clive Goodman letter.

Re: Is this Armageddon for Murdoch and NewsCorp?
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/mulcaire-suing-news-international-170915002.html
..The private investigator jailed over phone hacking for the News of the World is taking legal action against the newspaper's publisher News International.
Glenn Mulcaire, who was jailed for six months in 2007 for intercepting messages on royal aides' phones, has lodged papers at the High Court.
A spokeswoman for News International, which owned the now-defunct Sunday tabloid, confirmed the action was being taken, adding that "the claim will be vigorously contested".
Neither News International or Mr Mulcaire's solicitor Sarah Webb, of Payne Hicks Beach, would give any further details about the nature of the action.
It came as the former US editor of the News of the World was quizzed by police over phone hacking.
James Desborough, who won a British Press Award in 2009, was arrested by appointment at a south London police station, sources said. He was quizzed for several hours about voicemail interceptions alleged to have taken place before his switch from London to Los Angeles, and later released on bail until October.
Desborough, who joined the News of the World (NOTW) as a showbusiness and news reporter in 2005 before being promoted to US editor in 2009, was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept voicemails.
He is among journalists in the midst of a 90-day consultation period following News International's decision to kill off the paper in the wake of the phone hacking scandal.
Desborough, who was commended for a series of showbiz scoops including that TV host Fern Britton had a gastric band fitted, is the 13th person to be arrested as part of the fresh investigations into criminal activities at the Sunday tabloid.
A statement from News International said: "We are fully co-operating with the police investigation and we are unable to comment further on matters due to the ongoing police investigation."
