Home alone: party-loving mum left her girls at risk

Follow.A mother repeatedly left her four children at home alone while she was out partying, drinking alcohol and taking cocaine, a court heard.
On one occasion, her terrified 11-year-old daughter awoke to be confronted in her own house by a drunken stranger who tried to kiss her.
Leicester Crown Court
.Leicester Crown Court heard the defendant's own mother contacted the police and social services because she was concerned about her granddaughters' safety.
Yesterday, the 31-year-old mother, from north Leicester, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in court having admitted four counts of neglecting her children between October 2009 and February this year.
Alan Murphy, prosecuting, told the court that the oldest daughter, who is now 12, would often be left to look after her younger sisters, now 10, six and three. He said: "She was interviewed by police and disclosed her mother was in the habit of going out on Friday and Saturday nights.
"She would go out at 8pm or 9pm and would not return until after midnight or until 4am.
"On one such occasion, she (the 11-year-old daughter) fell asleep downstairs and woke at 6am to find an unknown man in the house. He was drunk and tried to kiss her. She was very scared."
He said the man was in the house for half-an-hour before the girl's mother, who knew the man, came home and threw him out.
Mr Murphy said the defendant admitted to police that she would drink and snort cocaine at a friend's house and had left her eldest daughter to babysit on four or five occasions.
The court heard she would leave the door unlocked because she did not want to lock her own children in the house.
Recorder Paul Mann QC told the defendant: "On Friday and Saturday nights, you effectively abandoned them to go out and drink alcohol and take cocaine leaving (your daughter), only 11, to act as a surrogate mother for her sisters.
"At 6am on one morning a man was able to walk into your home. She (the daughter) was met by this man who was suddenly showing a disturbing interest in her.
"It must have been a nightmare situation for her.''
Adrienne Lucking, in mitigation, said the children and the defendant were now living with the grandmother and were either imminently set to be taken off the social service "at risk register" or had already been removed.
The woman was given an 18-month community order which will include a year's supervision by the probation service. She was also ordered to attend a women's project for 20 days and 10 sessions of a parenting programme.
Unquote.....
Quite obviously this woman should have been a well educated and respectable doctor................

I suppose that depends on whether they really did neglect their children or it was a made up story to 'allow' the 'abduction' to take place?

Well - either way - they surely must cringe - because regardless of what happened they have let it be believed that "they really did neglect their children".....................

left-field
but perfectly possible scenario
'stranger abduction' - I never bought
All is possible-until today one would not have thought a 32 year old/middle class/well educated/freemason
could wreak havoc on 90+ of his own countrymen/women
All is possible-to shrink one's mindset to 'They've done it' .. They've not done it' is lazy thinking and a disservice to the victim

Do you think the Mercury anticipated a few comments? - having clicked a few articles it seems it is the only one with comments blocked.

I wouldn"t be surprised chris, probably realised there would be comparisons to the McCanns.

Amazing isn't it. Neglect your kids here and even if fortunately no actually physical harm comes to them you'll get hauled up before the courts. Neglect them abroad and "misplace" one and you'll get fĂȘted like celebrities.
