Madeleine McCann detective made £300k from book about tragedy

THE Portuguese detective who was thrown off the Madeleine McCann case has made a ­fortune spouting lies about the missing girl’s parents.

Gonçalo Amaral has been paid at least £320,000 for a book and DVD ­peddling claims that Kate and Gerry McCann ­covered up Madeleine’s death in their holiday apartment.

The McCanns are suing Amaral for at least £1million for libel and breaching their human rights.

Their case against him was due to be heard in Lisbon last week but was ­postponed when he split from his legal team.
Amaral was booted off the police investigation following the disappearance of the three-year-old in 2007 after five months in charge.

His book – The Truth About The Lie – became a bestseller in Portugal, even though the country’s top legal officials insist there is no evidence to back up his accusations.

Amaral is believed to have made £1million from information about the case.

A legal source close to the ­McCanns said: “Amaral made an astonishing amount of money from his ­campaign to discredit the ­McCanns. “I don’t know how he sleeps at night, knowing he cashed in on the tragic story of a young girl’s disappearance.”

Lawyers for the couple are expected to present proof of some of the ex-detective’s ­earnings when the case is heard.
They will show Amaral ­received at least £287,000 from the ­book publishers and £33,600 for a DVD.

I think someone is taking the p*** here one papaer has Amaral making a fortune £300K making a furtune of the back of a missing child and the other has the McCanns making £2m off the back of a missing child...FFS, well if Amarals is a furtune then what is the McCanns?? you really couldn't make it up could you!!.....

This piece is good imo it will get people to question after all this time WHY Amaral is still on the McCanns back, its not like it all happened last year is it.

I would really like to know just how much the "Legal Team" have made out of this tragic case and how they sleep at night

Some people might wonder why the McCanns are suing for over a million when the sums indicate that he is said to have made around half of that amount.

That had me spitting feathers as well. I would like to ask a lot of people how they sleep at night with their involvement in this case. Everyone from the McCanns, their relatives and their cronies to the gutter media. They wouldn't know the truth if it jumped out at them.

As she said in an interview for Woman's Hour, after five days following Madeleine's disappearance, she was sleeping well. How did she manage that?

My flabber is well and truly gasted . Not normally lost for words. Am now.

No doubt the pink one is desperately trying to spin away the emergence of Goncalo Amaral's book which will (imo) take off given just a modicum of publicity in the UK. I think TM have read this and wept:

Recent events and arrests re the hacking inquiry has made them jittery I reckon; and Pat Brown linking up with Tony and Goncalo to get some REAL information, and her superbly hands on approach to this unholy mess of lies and obfuscation re Maddie's fate, has to be very concerning in certain quarters.

All in all 2012 isn't looking too good for the gruesome twosome imho

So why are they suing him for one million? They must already know he doesn't have that kind of money. Besides, thanks to them he lost his job - the reasons they have advanced for the court case - loss of sleep, agonies, etc. etc. apply far more to Dr. Amaral, without the book, he would have had no income and spread over five years, after tax, it's just about enough to live on.
This is sheer vindictiveness - what do they want? Nothing but total destruction of this man seems to be the aim of the exercise.

At least the comments that have got on there so far are reassuringly sane.

What exactly is a 'legal source'???? - these journos can make it up as they go along can they not - say anything to impress and emphasise the spin they wish to promote.

There is no name on this Raily Record "article". It's hardly surprising, as I would be too ashamed to put MY name on this drivel, if it were me that had written it. How is anyone expected to take a pile of anonymous horse shit like this seriously? I bet it was Gerry's little friend at the Daily Record, the same one who confidently told us all that Mari Luz Cortes was a Portuguese boy and that the same "abductor" had taken them both.
